Calling all Nurses!!!!

I had my surgery on 8/26. I am cleared to go back to work on the 20th. I am really scared. I work 12 hour night shifts. I am so afraid I am going to crash. How did all of you do after returning to work? I am still on liquids and feeling weak and exhausted. I don't know why I am so scared....Advice please!

I don't work in a hospital anymore, but I went back to work after 7 days. I work 9 hour shifts with very little sitting (like in the hospital setting) and I did ok. It wasn't great and I was very tired. The 2nd to 3rd week was definitely the worst time for me just because I was still having trouble getting enough Protein in. I was allowed to have my drink with me which was good, but you probably won't be able to do that, so you will really need to concentrate on getting enough fluids down. By the 5th week I was really feeling fine and my energy level has continued to improve ever since.

Good luck!

i went back after 4 weeks...i'm a nurse's aide 8 hour night shift on a busy/heavy lifting unit!!! It was tough at first and exhausting but you fall back in place after a week!!! Good luck and watch lifting those patients at first!!!

I had surgery on thursday went back on the following tuesday. Felt fine, juz a lil tired. Luckily don't have much patient care anymore, that may have been too much. Good luck!

I work on a medsurg floor and a ob floor. I am hoping I will get staffed in ob a lot the first couple weeks i'm back. Newborns are a lot easier to move than adults ;)
