:) I could have them at 4 weeks on soft foods, but they are discouraged because they are CARBY and slider foods.

I have had a few bites of mashed potatoes and baked, but I really stay away from them.

Ya I don't plan on eating them often I'm Just at the point where I can start mushy foods so I'm trying to decide what to eat. I really don't want to get into bad habits and potatoes are my weakness. I'm not into Soups much and so I'm kind of stuck on what I should eat.

At the mushy stage...perhaps a meatloaf, but it depends on what Proteins you've tried I guess. You may not want to try something for the first time away from the safety of your own home and bathroom! lol

A baked potato may be good...depends what kind of restaurant it is; there could be numerous options. I actually had to "plan" how to eat a Soup because of the combo with liquid. You don't want to put meat and veggies in the bottom of the "funnel" and then pour liquid on top...so I actually think that Soup is more difficult than you probably want when trying to be social. :-)

Mashed potatoes were on my immediate postop mushie list; at home they could have some Protein Powder mixed in to help get in the daily Protein allotment. I will occasionally have a some roasted potatoes (lots of potassium in them, despite the carbs for those on the highly carbophobic programs. I would certainly stay away from the fried potatoes as that doesn't add anything but empty calories which you don't need now or later - a habit that would be good to break. Long term, there is nothing particularly wrong with potatoes other than they are relatively low on the nutritional density scale, but they do have useful nutrients in them - you just don't want to make them a staple long term as that will make maintaining your weight loss more difficult.

I had half a sweet potato this evening. I am two weeks out and was told i could start mashed potatoes this week but like many have said here I can eat mashed potatoes like it's my job. Another thing I discovered years back was butternut squash. If you bake it then mash it with a little light butter or margarine it is amazing!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
