Weight gain before surgery

Just got approved for VSG last week and am scheduled for next Monday--4/25. Have gained weight since process started in 12/10 and was chastised by surgeon. Will start liquids tomorrow. Has anybody else had weight gain and then gone thru surgery? I'm less than 300 lbs and am nervous now.

I'm still waiting for insurnace to come back but, in spite of a few efforts, I haven't been trying to lose weight. (sigh) But I've been beat down from YEARS of dieting, and if it were something I could do anymore I wouldn't need surgery. And who would want surgery if they didn't NEED it?

Don't beat yourself up over it. It'll all be okay in the end.

My surgeon is VERY STRICT about not gaining weight!! He gives you a goal weight and if you do not get there, you do not get surgery!!! Plain and simple!

The whole purpose of losing weight pre-op is to shrink the liver and that is what they are tying to acheive. It makes it eaiser on them...and you!

I read one post a few weeks ago a girl went to the hospital to have her surgery and the surgeon sent her home because she gained!!!!

Don't let that happen to you!! Stick to your diet and do what they tell you. It is only for your own good.

Good luck to you!

I understand the reason they want us to lose weight. But my husband, who met My surgeon for the first time today, was not impressed with the bedside manner of my surgeon. In the back of my mind, I'm really scared but keep thinking that LOTS of people who are even heavier than I am have this surgery done daily. I'm beating myself up and wondering if I should cancel. However, due to a change in jobs, my insurance will be changing effective May 1st and won't cover any bariatric procedures. I feel like it's now or never.
