Hate having to lie to my family
The weekend before my surgery was Easter weekend. We went to see my family for the holiday and I was on the liquid Protein diet. All I told them was that I was on a physician supervised diet. They didn't blink an eye. That's my story and I'm sticking to it....unless I feel the need to spill the beans!

Hate having to lie to my family
Mina--I haven't told my parents, my brother, or my in-laws. There's too much negativity from all of them surrounding bariatric surgery. And what's funny is that my WHOLE family is morbidly obese with all the typical hispanic medical ailments... diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease, etc, etc, etc. Nobody other than my husband and some of my girlfriends know. I haven't decided if or when I'm telling my immediate family. I just want them to be happy that I've taken a step in the right direction!

Sleeved May 5th - I DID IT!!!
Congrats all! I'm almost 3 weeks out and seem to be doing well! I haven't had the "OMG what have I just done!" moment yet. I think it's because I haven't had time to really think about my innards being cut open and partially cut out! I feel like I have a brand new wardrobe and love the compliments I'm getting from my DH! You'll love how you feel and knowing that you've taken a huge step I'm the right direction!!

CRUISING!!!
SunnyD--I'm with you! My DH, son, and I are actually going on an Alaskan Disney cruise next month. It's been planned since December--long before I got sleeved. (Sleeved 4/25/11) We haven't even been on this Disney cruise yet and my husband has booked us on a Disney cruise to Hawaii next year--almost a year to the date after my sleeve and the day after our 6 year anniversary! I am excited about getting a bathing suit next year and not have dimply thighs hanging out everywhere!

how I got to be..............
Howdy ladies! I live in Pearland and was sleeved on 4/25 at Memorial Hermann. I was 19 lbs down at my one week visit (including one week pre-op liquids) and feel that I'm probably close to 30 lbs now. I started a new job on Monday and am training here in Chicago. I'm having a hard time finding "pureed" foods here so I'm still pretty much on liquids. When I get home this weekend, I'll be looking forward to some good stuff. I look forward to keeping up with you fellow Texas losers! Ann

I did it!
Congrats to you! I was sleeved on 4/25 at Memorial Hermann in Houston. I was exhausted and could barely keep my eyes open right after my surgery and the next day. I had my morphine hooked up until Wednesday, 4/27 but barely used like 4 mg per day. I took one dose of liquid lortab the day I left and was walking like a crazy woman! I'm 2 weeks out now and feel GREAT! I am having a hard time getting my Protein in but I'm out of town training with my new job. I had no problems post-operatively and my surgeon was happy with my weight loss at my one week visit! I look forward to hearing how you're doing and wish you the best!

Is diet pop gone for ever?
I was told no carbonation ever again! When trying to quit Cherry Coke Zero cold turkey before my surgery, I would get migraine withdrawal headaches. I think being on morphine for 3 days in the hospital helped me not get those nasty migraines. I've now been off of Cherry Coke Zero for 2 weeks! I have had some caffeinated tea and it really bugged me--made me feel jittery. So, when at home, I'll make my tasty Luzianne decaffeinated iced tea and enjoy the taste!

What to eat?
Thanks for all the help! I got some yogurt tonight to keep in my room--the hotel provided me with a fridge. I went across the street and had some tomato basil soup at Corner Bakery. I feel like I'm going to turn into a can of soup with as much soup as I've eaten in the past 2 weeks! I am looking forward to some refried beans with cheese and maybe some ricotta cheese with a tomato sauce topping. YUMMY!

What to eat?
So my surgery was on 4/25 and I can now be on a purred diet. I'm out of town at training for my new job this week and next and am trying to figure out what I can eat. Any help is appreciated as the dietician I met with was not extremely useful.

Trouble gettin the fluids in
I love Propel. It's flavored water with some electrolytes and is flavored--no calories. Fruit2O is another choice and isn't too sweet. I'm hooked on decaffeinated iced tea, tho, and add my Splenda as I did to regular caffeinated tea.

Adios 19 lbs!!!
Hello all!! It's been 8 days since I was sleeved and 2 weeks since I started my pre-op liquids. I had my post-op appointment today. I am down 19 lbs in the past 2 weeks!!! I am lighter now than when I delivered my son almost 3 years ago!! Thanks goes out to this forum for me to share my thoughts and learn from others. I am motivated more than ever to kick away my excess weight and find my way to my "inner" me!

Sleeved and Steady
Raine-- I'm so glad you're on the road to recovery! I was sleeved the day before you and had dry heaves with dried up blood that was a bit scary. Keep up the good work on the road to recovery!!

Feeling Weak
Thanks for the tips! I bought the Unjury sample pack and it comes with a thermometer. I read where it's not supposed to be added to foods more than 130 degrees. I have some G2 so I'll add that into the rotation for liquids!

Feeling Weak
Thanks for the input! I called my surgeon's office and they said I can blend up soups and add more broth! I then put it though a strainer to get out any remaining chunks and heat what's left. YUM!! I feel like a new woman! I've also ordered Unjury unflavored protein so it's on the way to my home! Unjury is out of the chicken soup flavored until May 16th but I did order sample packs that include the chicken flavor. See my surgeon tomorrow and can't wait to see how he thinks I'm doing!

New Sleeve
Congrats to you! I was sleeved on the 25th and was out of it until early Wed morning. I'm tolerating liquids without a problem but can't get any proteins in for now. I lost 13 lbs pre- op and have my f/u with my surgeon on Tuesday. Looking forward to sharing our successes!!

4 days post op
I'm having a hard time getting in protein and I'm 6 days post-op. I've just ordered Unjury protein powder so hopefully that will help! The protein shakes I did before surgery aren't agreeing with me at all. However, I am doing great--not even on Tylenol any more! Looking forward to continuing to heal!

Feeling Weak
I'm supposed to be on a full liquid diet now. Right now I'm just eating the broth from some of the progresso soups--like chicken noodle--but don't want to waste all the good stuff!

Feeling Weak
Help! I'm post-op day 6 and feeling weak. The protein shakes aren't agreeing with my tummy at all. I'm tolerating broth very well and am getting in at least 72 oz of fluid per day that is water or decaffeinated iced tea. Is it ok to blend soups like chicken noodle with more broth before heating them? This way it's still a liquid soup but with protein in it? I don't like this feeling. Any help is appreciated!

Pictures and question
I'm post-op day 5 and doing well! Out looking for a new car today. Just took Tylenol for pain this am. Ate some awesome broth from soup at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. I was actually hungry for something other than flavored water. I tried a protein shake last nite and it didn't agree with my tummy. Looking forward to continuing to heal and see the rewards of this life-changing surgery!
