6 days out and terrible head cold...

I am only 6 days out from surgery and have come down with a terrible head cold. I am using the nose spray that opens me up enough to breathe, but it doesn't help a lot for the sinus pain, sore throat, coughing, etc. I am a big baby and don't want to even try the nasal flush things, so can anyone give me an idea of a medication that would be safe to take this early after surgery? I want so badly to take some nyquil, because it helps with the pain, coughing and stuffiness (at least the dayquil does). But I have heard yes and no about nyquil/dayquil.

I feel fine from surgery, it's this dang cold that's got me feeling bad.

Any ideas?

Just an update in case someone has the same question in the future. Heard back from the Dr. and he says Mucinex is ok to take, but I thought Mucinex was more for chest congestion. I guess it will work on any kind of congestion.
