Thanks Doug! My schedule is all out of whack! I had already been approved for the surgery with another surgeon and decided to go with Dr. Nick instead. So I have been dealing with the girls in the office getting the approval transferred over and they have scheduled my surgery for March 14th, but my actual consultation isn't until this next Friday with Dr. Nick. I have to start my pre-op diet tomorrow and since I don't have all the info from them yet, was curious of what the post-op diet consisted of,

I take it you are with Dr. Nick. :)

Yep I had Dr. Nick - he rocks. Make sure you WALK as often as humanly possible in the hospital.

I was the only person walking on the whole floor (which is dedicated to weight loss surgery people), and my recovery time was amazingly fast.

Ok, I'm using Dr. Nick too and I thought I knew the diet so I went and looked at it. I got a book from the nutrionist and a binder from Dr. Nick's office. They are different! The one from the nutrionist says clear liquids week 1 and full liquids weeks 2 and 3. The one from Dr. Nick's office says full liquids all 3 weeks. ???? Hmmmm.....not really sure what I should do!

On a separate note, Doug, what hospital did you use? Baylor? Forest Park? Just wondering if we're using the same one!

Thanks!

Is the nutirionist not with Dr. Nick? I would go but what the surgeon says...I think.

I pointed this out to her during my "class" where she showed us all the slides with the head nurse in the room. She was making updates to it then, so probably hasn't implemented the changes. Follow Dr. Nick's binder, and ignore the nutritionist instructions.

He preaches 3 weeks liquid, 3 weeks mushies. And the document you receive from the nurse when leaving the hospital says Clear Liquids for 48 hours.

I went to Baylor, 5th floor

If you goto Baylor, there's a "family dining area" that contains a refrigerator and microwave. Great place to store your leftover broth from when the kitchen closes at 7pm for later that night. Also a good reason to WALK so you can have a couple sips at 11pm, etc.

Doug...when you say 3 weeks liquid, is this when I can start adding things to my shakes (fruits), and liquefying Soups and such?

His guidelines say low fat soups and such. You'll receive a complete list of what you can eat in the white binder Anne gives you. I survived on the organic soups from the grocery store that come in a cardboard box, very yummy and filling. You can only eat about 1/2 cup before you're epic full, although I got to 3/4 cup before mushies started. The guidelines were:

- low fat

- can easily fit through a strainer

You need to be careful about the number of carbs your soups have.

Theoretically you could grab some high fat, high cal, high carb soups from Chili's, and never lose any weight.

Click on my food link below to see exactly what I ate during the Soup stages. I lost 1lb a day, so I was moderately successful.

I'm having surgery with Dr. Nick in April and I'm happy to hear good things about him. I'm traveling from Canada so I won't get a chance to have a consultation. This info is helpful.

Dr. Nick is mean. LOL....he is the only doc I've seen that makes you stay on liquids that long! I was liquids while in hospital (2 days), full liquids for 2 weeks, mushies 1 week and then onto "real food".

A little extra caution never hurts.

I agree, to heal from a surgery like this I like that he's extra cautious and has patients stay on liquids longer. Although I'm sure I'll be cranky going through it.

Dr. Nick was my second choice. I had initially chosen him but I'm out of state and Friday was more convenient for me. Friday wasn't a surgery day for him so I went with Dr. Davidson. I was torn between the two anyway.....both outstanding 'Center of Excellence' doctors there in Dallas! Dr. Davidson has his patients on liquids for the first week then full liquids (nothing that won't go through a straw) for the following two. Things get better after that. There is a reason for their caution. Watch what you eat in the beginning, the honeymoon period is easy for most folks, this is the time to really change any bad habits you might have! Good luck and enjoy the journey!!! It's a fun ride!

Can anyone tell me what Dr. Nick's Post-Op diet plan is?

Thanks!! :D

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
