anyone else riding their bike?

Recommended Posts

i got myself a bike at a yardsale and fixed it up and have been LOVING riding it!!!

i have only had it a month and am planning a wedding but have managed to log over FIFTY MILES!!! i just cant believe THAT! the most i have rode at once is 10 miles but i am still testing the waters! i really think i could do more like 20 MILES in a day if i just pack a lunch have a safe route. the safe route is the hard part. we have a 50 mile trail close by but i am afraid to get out of town alone. i have a 'tazer' you know shocker but heck i could shock myself!

today i am going out around my neighborhood instead of the trail but i may have to PUSH my bike up the hill to get home! when calvin and i walk it we call it 'heart rate hill' cause your heart feels like its gonna bust out of your chest!

wish me luck!

Oh yes, you need to get a thick gel seatcover, or a gel seat. I have a BMX bike that I ride around, that has a very small, hard seat. It kills to ride without the gel. My husband went and bought me the biggest gel seat he could find and it has really done wonders for my comfort.

Gel seat huh.. cool. All I kept thinking of while riding was WHOOOAH how the heck does anyone sit on this thing, for miles no less.. yikes.

Where did you get your seat from?

hey jane,

go to the bike store in your town. they have bikes that will definitally hold you! you will want to get one with a larger frame, they will help fit you to a bike.

Thanks for the motivation, Michelle! I have a bike I love but it really needs an overhaul and I haven't taken it in. I've had it for years but no one ever explained to me how to shift gears, so I'm sure I've destroyed it. :)

My older DD is hell on wheels with her new big-girl bike, and my little one is hot on her heels. All we have to do is get the parents up and running on good bikes, and the whole family will be on the road!! YAY!!!

My DH and I just bought bikes for ourselves. Our 6 year old loves to ride and we borrowed a bike trailer to haul our 3 year old around. It's great exercise and really fun- I'm surpised at how much I enjoy it.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
