Not sure I can have the surgery

Hi! I'm in Houston, Texas and want to have Lap Band Surgery. I am not covered by health insurance, not sure I qualify for Texas Medicaid, and not sure Medicaid would cover Lap Band. If anyone has any information that can help me with this, please reply. I'm praying that somehow I can get this done. A life-long friend in Pennsylvania had it done several years ago and she's doing great!! Thanks for any help you can give me, and thanks for this forum!

In most states, eligibility for Medicaid typically requires that you be in an eligible category AND that you have very, very low income. In Illinois, where I live, you have to be disabled according to social security's standards, or blind or over 65, or have children under age 19 in your care. Then your income, depending on what category you're in, must be very low. Check with your state's Medical assistance agency. If you get into Medicaid, the bariatric surgery will probably be covered.
