If you've been released for rice and veggies, you should be fine. I can tell you that rice was very hard on my sleeve until I was several months out. Now, it's a slider food, but around 3-4 months it hurt. I know a lot of people love the sashimi variety.

i have know idea if I've been released or not I haven't seen my Dr since 1 week post op. Im kinda just winging things my next appointment isnt until Oct very frustrating I learn alot on here. I've had a few bites of rice and it seems to settle ok. I really dont eat anything I have no appietite the only things I like are lunch meats and cheese.

I can eat sushi and have been since about 7-8 months post-op without issue. Did you not get any nutritional/dietary guidelines to follow?

If rice hasn't been a problem, then you should be okay, but I would check with your surgeon or nutritionist before.

slider food? how many times did you try rice before it was easier to eat?

I had soft sashimi (tuna, salmon, scallop) once I got to the soft foods stage. I've enjoyed sushi rolls about 5 weeks out for the first time. I can have 3 small or 2 big pieces at a time.

did you have to chew to a 'paste-like consistency'? i suppose you could ask the sushi chef to cut the pieces smaller than usual...

It only took one time for me to learn my lesson. I tried a couple of small bites around 3.5-4 months out, and I was in pain. Same thing happened with stovetop stuffing.

I didn't try it again for a couple of months. Fried rice seemed to work better than other rices. I can now eat quite a bit of rice with zero issue especially if I'm not eating a bunch of dense Protein.
