Hi friends, I was sleeved on Friday the 13th I do not have much pain just a ton of gas. I am walking alot but it doesnt seem to help it come out. Can anyoe recommend any other methods?

Agree, the gas is incredible isn't it? Someone posted that it felt like their stomach was filled with pop-rocks, that's exactly what I experienced! I'm a week out now, and it does get better. I still burp and feel bloaty but nothing like that first couple days. Be sure to take an acid reducer (my doctor sent me home with a two-week supply of Nexium, which he said to dissolve in Water before taking), and that does help. Also Gas-X strips, teeny-tiny sips, and walking. And patience, I guess, which I have a short supply of...

Gas-x strips were my best friend! A heating pad helps while your not walking but walking really is the best thing for you. I know I didn't feel like it every time I did it made me feel better. Once you can start drinking something warm helps your stomach and when you first wake up your stomach is tight as something warm helps that tight feeling. Last but not least don't try to be a super hero Take Your Pain Meds before the pain gets too bad!!

It's it awesome?? As soon as I used them I could feel it working. They replaced my pain meds after a fees days since most the pain is gas anyways..

All i can say besides the walking and burping and sipping is that day two post op SUCKS! You actually sound much better then I was doing. I was up walking (like the hunchback of Notre Dame) and I had the lamest burps ever. I wasnt even up for talking on the phone with my kids I was so weak and just exhausted and I couldn't focus. I was having buyers remorse BAD.

So congrats your mood sounds very focused and energetic. The gas pains worked them selves out little by little over day two and three and four felt pretty gas pain free (im talking about the gas that they pump in ya, I think we deal with a lstomach gas for a while and it varies a lot.

Gas-X, heating pad on the stomach, walking & time!

It's 2:30am and I'm up and writing because I feel like I just turned a small corner with the gas. I wrote on another post that I'm in a cycle of sip-gurgle-burp, but a few minutes ago, I actually took a normal-ish sip. I was actually worried! Is it too normal too suddenly? I took a Zofran just now for a little nausea, and am trying to still sip very slowly. (there, a couple of burps). Monitoring my drain. Being a typically anal-retentive RN!

I still remember those days, my sleeve really talked to me allot that first week. Gas would seem to come in through the lower valve and "whistle" up the sleeve. Seemed like I could feel liquid flow through the sleeve and I knew it went through the sleeve because when the lower valve opened to release liquid into the intestine, some gas would come up. I recall being surprised at how fast liquid moved right through the new stomach. This too shall pass :biggrin0:

I was sleeved on 8/9, so tomorrow will be 2 weeks. I'm on full liquids for another week, then mushies. I still have incredible gas, which I finally recognized as "indigestion" (basically acid). I decided to take my acid-reducer twice a day, which helped, and I wait about 40 mins after taking it before drinking anything. Water-based liquids work very well (ironically, as I was so anxious to get to full liquids so I could have some new tastes). Anything thicker - Premier protein drinks, 1% milk with some sort of protein powder, soups, etc.), and I'm belching up a storm. I don't know how long this will go on, but I've decided that, going back to work Monday, I will make up a couple containers of Crystal Lite with unflavored protein, to minimize the embarrassing belching, then in the evenings I can experiment with other types of drinks. I read online that, post-op, the body tends to produce gastric juices for a full-size stomach, and for our new sleeves, it's just too much. Not sure when (or if) it changes. I hope it does! This is my ONLY post-op issue, though - never any nausea, minor pain, etc., so it's not causing buyer's remorse yet.

I did a ton of walking early on (2-3 miles each day) I think in week 2 or 3 most of the wierd gas was gone.

everyone is different but the more you get up and walk the faster the gas goes away. It will take about 1-2 weeks but the second week is not as painful as the first.
