Hi, this is my first post. I am 49, female, self pay sleeve. I will be making a one time 10 hour drive for my surgery at a facility that is recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Although the date has yet to be set, the plan for the week is; Sunday, travel, Monday, exam and blood work, Tuesday, nutritionist and psychiatric evaluation, Wednesday, surgery. The plan is for me to stay in town until the following Monday for my final check up. Anyone else have a similar experience? I am hoping to have surgery in February. I appreciate reading about everyone's experiences on here. I have been overweight my whole life and can not even imagine a life with out this issue clouding everything that I do! I am so excited! :001_cool:

I am traveling out of state for surgery in June, (at a center of excellence as well) but it's a lot further, so I'll be flying. I wanted to tell you what the nurse at Dr. Davidson's office told me. We are renting a beach house in Galveston for a week after surgery, which is about a five hour drive from Dallas. I was told that we will need to stop every hour to Galveston and then again on our way back to Dallas for my follow up visit so that I can get out of the car just to walk around the car or whatever, not a long stop, just like I said, just to walk around it...this is to avoid blood clots. Also, on the flight home, I will need to get up every hour on the 4.5 flight home and just walk down the isle and back, for the same reason. You can talk to your surgeon about this, I just wanted to let you know, since there has been stuff in the news about deep vein thrombosis, which is what they are worried about. Good luck, I know you are as excited as I am!!!
