Always sick

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2/11/13 and have lost over 60lbs since then. However, I have been consistently sick, horrible stomach aches, always nauseated. Anyone else have any of this?!? I'm at a loss!

Have you discussed this with your doctor? That's a long time to have those issues, and your doctor should be able to work through it with you. That being said.....

I've noticed that I get stomach aches when I drink coffee on an empty stomach. I already have an acid issue, and that seems to put me over the edge. As far as nausea, I do feel it intermittently. I can't really say what triggers it, but I just feel grossed out at the thought of a Protein shake, or solid food. For me, I wake up with it, but it doesn't happen every day.

I hope you get some good answers, and that you're able to resolve this sooner than later.......

I've talked to them several times and they don't really have an answer for me. I deal with being sick enough to stay home two days a week. Most of the time I still go but here I am today. In bed sick. It's miserable. I don't know what else to do!!

I don't know that it is the band necessarily. I've been to my primary care and my surgeon with no real answers. I do fine for a week or two then its back. I have horrible cramping by my port site, I pretty much live on my bathroom floor because I can't keep anything down, my lower back hurts really bad, I am not sleeping nor keeping any liquids down. I thought at first this was just a "girl issue" however that's not the case. It's consistently getting more painful and no answers. Ugh!

if you are sick or not feeling well and are laying on floor in pain, cant get anything down

you need to go to the ER

Then you need to find a new primary care doctor. What your describing could be a number of internal issues and none of them are good. You can't risk your health, you have to find a competent doctor to help you figure out what's wrong and resolve it.

Have they tried unfilling you to try to alleviate the symptoms at all? So that they can at least rule out that it IS your band?

We did take all the fill out about a month and a half ago. It didn't help much, I could keep things down longer but that was about the only difference. I've been to 2 Urgent Cares to be told there's nothing wrong. I'm not insane, I know my body and myself. There is something else going on. I'm at a loss :(

Kace,

This is not an appropriate conversation for lbt. The reason being is that you are experiencing atypical symptoms that are not usually experienced by bandsters. It is not fair to you to have strangers (even well intentioned ones) give you advice/feedback on issues we simply are ignorant to. The reality is you need to be an aggressive patient and have your doctor draw labs, take xrays, do an upper GI whatever it takes to find the answer.

I would like to share that there is a very small percentage of people who just have zero tolerance to the band for unknown reasons. Your body could simply be rejecting the band. That is why your doctors need to start performing tests to rule out any condition that may be causing your pain. However, it is inappropriate to just accept that there is no answer and lie there in pain being nonfunctional.

If necessary, go to the ER, change primary physicians etc and be prepared to commit to appointments and exams to find the answers.

Good luck and I hope you find your answer soon

I had some of the same symptoms and finally made an appointment with a gastroenterologist . I had gall bladder sludge and gastritis . Firstt thing I had to do was cleanup my diet. No coffee, milk products, yogurt was ok, chocolate, juice with Fiber in it, ice cream, potato chips and anything spicy. I switched to almond milk and small amount of Decaf coffee. Gall bladder are problems common with quick weight loss. I am surprised none of your doctors recommended a gastro doctor. It made a big difference for me.

Hope you feel better soon,

years ago i had gallbladder issues and had 3 severe/pain episodes and ended up in emergency room 3 times....after pain meds it subsided and off we went merrily home...the last time, hub told them i was staying til they fixed me.....(and ended up having emergency surgery late that night)

so this is what you need to do

if you cant eat/drink and per your words, laying on floor in pain,

go to the emergency room or urgent care and DEMAND they make it right.....you have one life...

I agree with Carolinagirl. Don't take no for an answer until they fix the problem especially if the pain comes and goes every time they send you home.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
