I was banded yesterday! I still cant believe how good im feeling. Having NO pain at all. Im a little itchy around my incisions, and a little weak, but other than that it seems like i havent have surgery. I cant thank GOD enough about this. This morning a had a barium xray, and my surgeon said that i'm very swollen, and that i should stick to the clean liquids until sunday, and then monday i can start my stage 3 diet. So, far today i only had a cup of prune juice, and half cup of Protein Shake very liquid as he recommended more milk so it wont be too tick. Im sooo happy that im banded :)

My surgeon also congratulated me saying how easy my surgery went, that he was very proud of me, and my liver was very small :) so i guess my little cheating didnt affect that lol

Congratulations on the surgery, but beware. Cheating will affect how you heal in post op. So don't get in the mindset that a little cheat won't hurt. The healing time and post-op diet are really important parts of the journey! Good luck!

Thank you!

I dont intent to cheat on the post op, the cheating i mentioned happened in the preop as i was super anxious and hungry.

I'm not hungry at all so far, and monday i can start to eat oatmeal, cream of wheat and cream of rice, condensed Soups, etc.. And im sure i wont be cheating at all! Im aware of how important os to follow my surgeon's orders!

Thanks for your concern.

Lucky u!! It's amazing how different people handle the surgery. I also was banded 3/21. I so wish I had little pain. It hurts for me to get up and down mostly.

Can't wait to watch us progress this year!

3/19 for me. I have had more pain than I thought I would but I know this, too, shall pass. I'm on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks but I'm not really hungry anyway. I have recognized the 'head hunger,' though, and will continue to spar with it, I'm sure. Went to a party last night where there is always a lot of great food. Wasn't tempted at all. Sipped on my G2 and enjoyed conversation. Triumph #1 for me!

Good luck for all of you!

I managed to have a good night of sleep. Woke up to go to the bathroom by myself, my incisions are a little bit sore than yesterday, gas pain i think is gone..

Today has been a great day as far as physical ability. No pain outside pulling when I cough or get up. Now stamina is another thing, I guess the limited intake of calories is affecting that. I just can't seem to force these shakes down.

Any other suggestions on liquids. I'm allowed any liquids but have only had broths and shakes.< /p>

I have that every now and again. Kinda like a half hiccup to me. I try to stand and stretch my mid section with some deep breaths if it doesn't go away right away. I feel great for the most part but just not eating much at all. That is not good I know, so I'm consciously trying to get somethings down.

Keep up the good work and in a week or two this will all be distant memories LOL!!!

Oh, a deep breath would feel so good. With the gas rumbling around in there, a deep breath is a wishful thought! The pain! OMG. I asked my husband to put a bullet in my left shoulder so the gas could escape!! Just when you think you're feeling good, the gas moves to another sensitive spot. Yes, walking, heating pad, walking, you name it. Like childbirth, this will become a distant memory.

I'm still having some discomfort, mostly in my chest.

Today i moved my diet to liquids, and had a pack of cream of wheat with soy milk. I'm not sure if is bad, but i managed to eat the whole thing...

I havent ate anything since surgery, just some sips of Water.. Wasnt feeling up to anything.. But last night i almost passed out, so, today needed to start the right way.

So far im feeling good, thirsty after the Cereal, but i think i can hold another hour.

Good morning Ladies, I'm right there with you I was banded the 21 too. I had major pain from the gas, then when I tried to get up and move around to help with the gas I would get nausea and start dry heaving. it was a very rough 12 hours for me. But after that other than my stomach being sore from dry heaving so much I'm doing great toady. I'm still very weak, but I guess I will be for a few days. I'm so happy to finally be a banded woman, I can't wait to see what the year ahead of me holds. :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
