Have my mental evaluation on Thursday and I'm nervous. Any advise that can help?

  • Don't act crazy! Just kidding. I was nervous too but it really is nothing. They just want to make sure you are sound of mind, that you know what is entailed. You will do fine!

  • Thank you. Ur right. I'm gonna chill out! What's meant to be will be.

  • There's such stigma around anything pertaining to our mental health. Enough to make us go crazy! (pun intended) Seriously, do not worry at all, like it was mentioned before, they just want to make

Seriously, do not worry at all, like it was mentioned before, they just want to make sure that you are ready to make this lifestyle change. They want to make sure you have a good support system at home, to help you along this journey. When I attended my pre-op seminar, the nurse told us that no one ever got denied because of the psych evaluation. The most that can happen, is that you might be asked to join a support group after, or just talk with a counselor. It's really no biggie :)

You will do just fine- breathe and smile, you are about to start a wonderful journey.

Good Luck to you!

Don't stress over this one- you will do just fine

Thank you sooo much. That was great to hear. It's nice to have the support you find on here. I'm grateful for all the kind words.

Basically they are checking for depression and OCD disorder. Perfectionist tendencies can create problems post op and depressive personalities have underlying issues that need to be addressed. There are many people that believe this is a quick fix, which we all know and have been repeatedly told is only a tool.

The psychological evaluation is a necessary formality. You will do fine i am sure.

Somehow I got out of having to do this. My doctor did not require it.
