Can't Eat Meat

I had lap band on Oct. 10, 2012. So far I have lost 37 pounds and have about 70 more to go. Before the lap band I was not a fan of meat, I hate steak. Mainly because of the texture. I could tolerate a hamburger with lots of bread and cheese. After the lap band now that I have to chew chew chew I cannot stand the way meat feels. All the flavor leaves and you are left with a crumbly, stringy mush in your mouth before you swollow. I don't want to eat meat anymore! Has anyone else been turned off by meat and do you have any suggesstions for how to get your protein intake besides eggs?

Cottage cheese, tofu, beans... etc. Check the forums list. I believe there are posts on vegetarian bandsters.

I'm a big meat eater but I have yet to cook a steak and eat one. Just small pieces of roast beef in soups is all I eat and lots of chicken diced carefully and chewed carefully.

hight protient shake ESA has a 42 gr one myoplex it's for body builders i use it when i am low on protien

Swai fish with tarter sauce, doesn't smell fishy, taste fishy, and is really moist, goes down good. Lately I've been on a kick and breading it (low carb bread crumbs), cook it in the oven, and made my own tarter sauce and it's delish. Even if you hate fish, I would give this a try and it's cheap too!

I am a texture eater as well. The ground beef doesn't bother me too much when i eat it in chili or make it with sauce in the pan like a sloppy joe. Burgers sometimes make me gag. The steak which is most friendly to me is skirt steak but be careful to cut into tiny pieces.

I don't eat steak to often every couple of months. I don't miss it.

try chili with ground beef or ground turkey or sloppy joes

I too am a big texture person. I hate steak not because of the taste but because of the texture. If I get a piece of meat in my mouth with even a little fat on it, or if it gets all stringy, I will literally gag and have to spit it out.

I find if I prepare meat in a way to keep it nice and moist, I do ok with it. I'm big on marinades for both pork chops and chicken. I let them soak for at least 3 hours before cooking them. When meat is moist it doesn't get that stringy chewy texture.

I would do a little experimentation and see if different cooking methods improve your experience.

There are lots of wats to get your protein. Chicken, fish, beans, veggie burgers (lots to choose from) I buy precooked frozen chicken and then add to BBQ or chilli. Can use to make chicken salad or in soups. This is a great time to get creative and have fun! I also don't make it a habit of drinking my calories it just makes me hungry sooner. I eat half cup 3 to 4 times a day I track on spark people and have been reaching my protein goals. Best of luck to you!

Since my last fill I am having trouble finding meat that doesn't get stuck I chew so much but it still doesn't go down ive been using tunafish but looking for other options the Chili sounds nice

The Greek yogurt is great for protein in take. And, also Kellogg protein Cereal..

Greek yogurt is a great protein option but I am hungry within an hour so I don't eat it. Tuna or canned chicken. You can make your own chicken salad with some light mayo. Fresh fish in a pan you can buy some marinated. There are a lot of options just have to be creative. If you can't eat any solid proteins could you be to filled?
