Liver Shrinkage

I have been following the diet to a T but I am still really nervous about making sure my liver has "shrank" enough. I'm just terrified that my surgeon will open me up and find a big fat liver and close me up. Anyone have any tips/pointers/advice?

Thanks.

Surgery is Sept. 10.

  • Don't get stressed about this...follow your surgeon's instructions and you won't have any issues with your liver.

  • You've lost 10 pounds already. The liver is the first place it goes so you should be fine. Your doctor isn't going to close you back up. Relax and keep following instructions. You'll be fine. Goo

if you are doing as the other posters have said, not cheating on the pre op diet, i am sure your liver will shrink nicely and the surgery will take place. just keep doing what you are doing and try no

Wow ! low blow banderama !!... but I got a little on you too smartie pants.... :P

I had a big liver on my surgery date. I wasn't required to lose pre op but followed the liquid diet for three days before surgery, so I only lost a few pounds. My band was still placed. In hindsight I wish I had tried harder to shrink it, when he told me about my liver in recovery I was embarrassed. But like I said, they can still place them. Good luck everyone!

I feel the same way..my surgery is tomorrow 9/6..and I'm so worried that I'm gonna have a huge liver...or that I have nicotine from the patch or gum in my urine ugh!!!..I'm abt to lose it

Banderama' date=' I would absolutely die if I could only drink Protein shakes. I'm on 2 diets a day and then 1 meal at dinner. Dinner is 3 oz of lean meat, 1 cup of green veggies and 1 cup of fruit.[/quote']

My surgeon doesn't require an all liquid diet either just a 1200 calorie/day diet for 2 weeks before surgery. So like you, I'm super worried about my liver not being small enough. I've even thought about starting my preop diet early just to be safe. Sounds like you're on the right track. Good luck!

Well I have decided I am just going to try and ignore worryiing. I am sticking to the diet. I have actually found the liquid diet to be working really well. I would never have said that a week ago, but it does get easier.
