Is This What Getting Stuck Feels Like?

Recommended Posts

I am still on liquid and I had chicken and corn Soup which I vitamised with my stick blender. Shortly after I ate it I got awful heart burn and pain and have had it for about 5 hours? I'm not sure how it would have gotten stuck but it's very uncomfortable. I'm still trying to work out what everything feels like. Certainly won't be having that again.

Corn can sometimes be a problem. My MD said because it is a fibrous vegetable. In that same category is asparagus and rhubarb. I have had well cooked asparagus tips with no problem, don't like rhubarb.

If you can, try sipping on some warm/hot liquids when that happens. I know one of the golden rules is to NOT drink while you are eating, which is very true, but if you feel that stuck feeling, sometimes just sips of hot liquids like tea or coffee can help.

For most people that are stuck sips of anything just make it worse.

When I was first banded corn used to give me lots of trouble, maybe even though you blended it , it had bits of skin which could be causing the irritation.

You say it gave you heartburn, maybe that is the issue rather than being stuck. Maybe you ate too quickly or too much or for some reason it didn't agree with you. Have you tried taking a heartburn remedy?

I may have eaten the Soup too quickly. Because I don't have to chew it I find it hard to slow down. I try using a small spoon as opposed to a soup spoon. What ended up relieving it was (excuse my crassness) was a massive fart. My partner giggled. He thinks I'm like a baby learning to eat and apparently that comes with getting wind. He offered to burp me. Lol.

I do think the corn may have been an issue though so I might avoid it for now.

Cause im still on liquids the eating drinking rule isn't such a huge issue.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Everyone is different. Sips of hot liquids helps me not PB in most cases...usually if I catch it before it's a really bad "stuck" feeling....and I rarely PB. Same with my sister, she sips hot liquids and it usually helps. But then there's my mom who can't sip at all. Having the lapband for the past 4 years I have learned that you have to find what works best for you. Not everyone is the same. Some can and some cant.

I didn't even realize from your first post that you were still on liquids....totally read over that one! :)

Glad the pain was relieved by a little wind release ;) Sometimes it's simple things! I constantly carry the gas-x dissolvable strips because I get gas quite frequently. They seem to do the trick in most cases.

I know that every surgeon is different and all our eating regulations are different, but I was told no corn or potatoes for the first 3 - 6 months. I'm glad you were able to get some relief. I would stay away from the corn for a little while, but certainly try it again as you begin to incorporate more food into your diet.

... i would say that the corn perhaps caused you some problems?? can you have just chicken?? if you want some carbs .... use some mashed potato?? its easier for you to digest. It takes a while for the swelling and soreness to heal.. meantime, dont use corn. Use cauliflower?? pink potato? even pumpkin? ? they all mash up really well. i had them in abundance and they were easy to digest.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
