So I have been researching vsg just to reassure myself that lap band is the best route for me; I already knew I didn't want anything to do with rny. So I've been lurking on vsg talk and I can't believe what band haters they are. Is there some unspoken agreement to make bandsters or those considering it feel awful?

Something I learned today about the sleeve is most folks end up lactose intolerant and that's something I absolutely do not want.

I totally agree. I have been snubbed by a few Bypass people like I was lower class or not up to the challenge of the Bypass. People here don't bash them . . . I do not know why they want to bash us. But really I could careless I did what was best for me and 3 years later still happy with my choice.

i am a newbie, but in the short amount of time I have spent researching bariatric surgery/message boards/etc, I have been AMAZED at all the DRAMA out there between sleeve, bypass, and band patients!!! I mean come on people, we all have the same GOAL... to lose weight and get healthy?! yeesh.

All I can say is ... the haters can kiss my (thanks to my band) cute, small(er..) bee-hind!! I find that kind of thing so ridiculous. All of these kinds of surgery seem to work really well when done by good surgeons and on people who work the tool they are given. I don't view one as better than another -- I think it's really a matter of personal situation and preference.

That said, I'm hearing good things about the sleeve from a few former bandsters who had to revise to the sleeve due to complications. But, otherwise, I don't know too much about it. The band worked very well for me -- I'll be 4 years out in October, and I've been at or under goal for more than 2 years.

Best,

Catherine

Hate to burst anyones bubble but................. I was never lactose intolerant until I was banded.... but I will take that vs. diabetes, high blood pressure reflux and asthma. so for me it's a small price to pay ... Besides I like soy milk now but it does cramp me and who needs ice cream LOL ;)

Hi alley-gator. I have a band and my 23 year old daughter got the VSG on Feb. 8th this year. I had some different issues with the band but am on track with a new doctor and it seems to be working wonderfully now. My daughter loves the VSG. She is not lactose intolerant and loves it. She eats 4 sometimes 5 small mini meals a day and has lost 70 lbs since surgery. I wish I had the VSG and have been considering a revision. She feels great and has no problems. Good luck in what ever you decide.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
