When Will I Start To Fill Some Restriction???

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was banded 4/27/12 and have had to fills. I know have a total of 4 cc's in my 10 cc band. I have not lost any more weight since about 2 weeks post-op. I still do not feel any restriction. I have a few questions.

#1- How many cc's until you finally felt some restrictions?

#2- Did you lose weight prior to feeling this restriction or did the weight loss finally kick in once you got to that point?

Thanks,

Amber :D

1. Everyone's anatomy is different, so there is no magic number when you feel restriction. Most people do require multiple fills to get there though

2. Yes I have lost weight consistently since surgery, even before I had restriction, I have measured my food (no more than 1 cup total per meal) and counted my calories, Protein, carbs, and fat religiously since the day I was released from the hospital, Because of it, I've always lost weight.

It wasn't easy in the beginning- I was hungry all the time. But, it was necessary and worth it to lose weight. Now that I have good restriction, it's actually shockingly easy and I'm almost never hungry,

I agree with the previous poster on all points.

It took me 17 fills and yes I shrank during that three year period but I did not always see the reflection on the scale.

I was definately lucky as I had restriction right from the start, and I was scared to death not to follow the rules! (unfortunately, the fear has left me)

I measure, weigh and log... just like Mis73. It really helps me be accountable.

I still struggle with eating just because i want to eat something, not because I'm hungry.

Good Luck

Hey there, I had my surgery the day before you did (4/26). I have had 3 fills, and am up to 6cc. I don't think I am at the green zone yet, but I definatiely do feel some restriction. I have an apt this week for my 4th fill and am hoping will have full restriction after that. I definately can't eat like I used to. I have to eat slow and less or the food will get stuck and that hurts.

Most of the weight I have lost was due to the pre op and post op diet. But, I must confess, I do not measure my food. I eat until I am full, but eat whatever I want just less. I just think that if I wanted to be on a diet, I wouldn't have paid all that money and put myself through surgery. I know that I probably won't loose as much as if I did follow their diet rules, but I'm ok with that. If I could follow a diet I wouldn't have had surgery. I know that doesn't sound right, but that's how I feel.

Good luck and keep in touch!

Took me 6 months of fills before I got restiction. If you have not yet done so buy a digital food scale so you can measure your food. It is easy to over eat if you don't.

How much Protein do you get a day? What is your max carb intake?

This is me, this is why I chose this surgery because I don't want to be on a diet and I don't want to not be able to lead a normal life. I knew that I would never be able to be so restricted for the rest of my life. I got off 60 lbs. without to much heartache, and I felt so good that I got lazy. There are many stressers in my life and I have a really crazy lifestyle. I have never measured my food, I learned the things I just can't eat like hard boiled eggs; and I try to listen to my body when I eat. My band reacts to everything from stress to temp changes. I am at 5.5cc in a 10cc band and I really don't feel restriction. At least not the way others say it is, yet hunger has not been an issue for me. I am really tight in the morning, sipping something hot is the best I can do. My doc says I need to eat more regularly, but even yogurt won't go in before 11. I am trying to get my Water intake back up and to get back to making better choices again. I am not overeating just eating some bad things to often and coffee Creamers and kicking my butt.

I am EXACTLY like you! I thought I wrote this! I have lost 50lbs and even though I don't eat that much during the day I still put sugar in my coffee and I don't eat until 12-1pm I get lazy to where I don't want to take time to eat so I grab slider foods and I know I should be exercising way more than I am. But again I've got cozy and lazy I like the way I look but I don't like the scale! I still want to get out 20 more lbs!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
