Need to unload some things I am feeling

Recommended Posts

So I am 7 days post-op. I am so weak and tired most of the time. I go back to work in 5 days, and don't know if I will be ready. I can be up for about 2 hours, then I have to lay down for at least 4 hours. I know this is a normal part of surgery, but I have had other surgeries, and it was never like this. I am eager to start exercising, but I am struggling just doing the minimal amount of housework.

Okay, here is my venting part. I had to go to work today for a quick minute, and I could just sense the jealousy among some of my co-workers. One of them even told my boyfriend that she was not gonna let me get skinny. I have lost almost 70 pounds in the past 4 months. I was doing Atkins before I was banded. I am no longer the biggest gal at work, and I can tell it threatens people.

Another vent, strangers are much nicer to me now. When I was 317 lbs, it was amazing to me just how invisible I was to people. It makes me a little hostile knowing that these people would not have treated me the same 70 lbs ago. I know as I lose weight, this issue will only get worse. I try to tell myself that alot of it is because I am more friendlier and open to strangers, but I know I can blame it all on this. Thanks for reading :D

Well as far as the jealousy goes there's really nothing you can do about that. I would definitly not worry myself about their issues cause in the end, it's their issue, not yours. Congrats to you for your 70 pound weight loss before being banded and congrats for taking control of your life Don't let haters discourage you but let that be your motivation. You should strive for 20 haters by the end of the year. I had several people pull the jealousy thing on me when they found out that I was getting lap band but I have to live for me and make myself happy. I consider it a waste of time to be hateful toward others or try to figure out why they are hateful towArds me. Take care of you girl and congrats again.

Hi, I am concerned about how tired you are......... I think you should talk it over with your doctor's office. It just seems a little more than what I or others I know of, experienced.

I walked through my workplace the next day to prove that I survived. I went back to work on Monday, (surgery on Thursday).....

My doctor's office said that most folks do the same thing: Surgery Thursday, Work on Monday. Especially the folks that don't tell anyone what they have done..(as they told me YOU WOULD BE AMAZED) .....but for you to be a week out and still so weak that you are sleeping so much-- perhaps it is your meds causing this fatigue............. BUt since the first month is for healing........and no one can dispute that sleeping is the best medicine........you may be just fine ....... Call your doctor's office. If your doc's secretary is like my doc's, she will provide some advice, or catch the doctor in the hallway for a quick opinion, or (as happened with me only 1 time - get the PA on the line ASAP ).

As for your feelings -- they might be causing some of the fatigue... Some folks can be so cruel, and petty. Try to keep your chin up (your much smaller and cuter chin) :P

If feelings continue -- you may do what i am doing and consider a councilor ---- I have finally resolved myself to going. I have some self-sabotage head talk going on that I wanna sort out. Besides, the band is only physical - my mind got me to the place I was JUST as much as my stomach did. I am slowly realizing that I gotta deal with my emotional eating behaviors..... and the band won't fix them.

But as far as the haters go ..........

Looking Great is ALWAYS the best revenge.

Let them eat their nasty little hearts out.

Best wishes for a successful journey.

Terri.

Don't let the haters get inside your head or they will take away the love that you have and need for yourself!

Re bing invisible when you were heavier....when I was heavier I didn't believe that it was true but now at 99lb down, I realise that the only reason I wasn't invisible was because I pushed, spoke up and made damn sure that the world knew I was there. Now, however, I have realised you are right. Other people make the first move now instead of me. It just goes to show how shallow some people can be. My goal is to never become one who cannot see because of someone else's size.

Congrats and I think when woman said to your boyfriend "I am not going to let her get skinny." about you, I would have told her "Oh,is that right?Well,it's too bad that my being skinny is not something you have control over!"Then laugh it off. Or I would have told her "And I am going to make sure that you gain the 70 lbs of weight that I lost!"Some people really like to think they control the whole Universe but they do not.Just remember that mean people suck and ignore them accordingly.

And you are noticing how jealous people are over the weight loss-be advised that there are more small jealous, shallow, petty stupid people on Planet Earth than we need, causing trouble everywhere every single day.You can't do anything with these idiots because if they were not having personal problems with your weight they'd find something else to be angry about like your new shoes, your hair etc, etc, etc. The possibilities are endless. The Devil himself controls people like this and they are like a cancer in the workforce.

To me there is nothing more pathetic and weak than a bunch of stupid jealous women at work that spend their day making gossip and trouble instead of working and minding their own business. Uggh.

Congratulations! You've taken the first big step in extending your life! You're in control again - don't let other bring you back down! I am feeling 100% better after about 7 weeks (post surgery) of feeling (for lack of a better term) "out of sorts." My doctor said sometimes it takes a good 4-8 weeks for the anesthesia to leave your body. You feel tired, no energy, depressed and you doubt that this was the right move for you. Just hang in there - you'll feel great soon. I was feeling very lousy.

You did this for you - to extend your life - to get healthy. Be strong and you can choose not to be friends with these people. You have a lot of folks who will support you on this site. Congratulations on your amazing accomplishments. Keep up the great work! Make sure to take in your liquid Protein, no food cheating and get lots and lots of rest.

I was so weak and tired also, which surprised me since I'd never felt like that after other surgeries I've had. I think it's because after surgery, we're on liquids and not getting the calories that we were getting before. It takes the body a bit to recover from that. I know some people can go to work 3 days after surgery, but I am not one of them. It's just taking me a little longer to recover, but that's ok. You'll feel better soon. Listen to your body and sleep when you need to and know that it will take a few days after going back to work to get back in the groove.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
