Had my first vomiting episode!

Well,

I had my first vomiting episode last night and it was awful. Went out to eat with family. I know I most likely ate too much, but for some dumb reason, I took a drink of water and it pooled immediately in my throat and off I ran to the bathroom, pushing a couple of people out of my way in the process :), and puked up the water and some food, water came out of my nose too. felt like I could not catch my breath and then finally had it out. I felt so embarrassed about doing that in public. I went out outside to get some air. So today, I am just drinking hot liquids and staying away from food today!

I know that feeling quite well it happened to me 2 weeks ago twice. Since then i promise god and myself i will never ever let it happen again. This feeling is too horrible and everytime i place something in my mouth i remember the experience and i chew chew chew.

Same thing happen to me last week, I knewwhat was going on immediately when it happened lol.. I ate too fast and didnt chew the food like I was suppose to and it got stuck omg then i took a drink of Water to "push it down" and it did the opposite..omg..I will never do that again..I swear..I was driving when it hit , so i had nowhere to run but all over my shirt lol talk about embarrasment.

You don't need too many of those kinds of episodes to get your attention.

I've found the only times I get stuck like that is when i'm eating too fast, and not chewing well enough. I've never gotten stuck at home, but have been stuck several times in restaurants. Taught me a valuable lesson: I have to THINK about chewing when I'm eating in public, no matter what is happening at the table.

I've thrown up (not PB'd) in public more than I can count over the last 2 yrs. Most of the time, I have the bathroom to myself, but when there's someone in the next stall, they invariably ask "are you ok?" Yes, I'm fine. I also find when I eat too fast (a habit picked up in basic training in the Army - if you don't eat your meal in 3 minutes, you don't eat) I throw up. I usually have to stick my toothbrush or finger down my throat to get it out - it rarely comes up on it's own. But I feel if I don't get it out, I'm going to be just miserable.

The only advice I can offer you is to try to eat slower. I'm so bad that if I throw up, I continue eating, I don't go on liquids for a couple of days. And if you throw up in public, so be it. It's not that big of a deal.

Good luck!

Oh, thank you. I am so glad that i am not the only one here. LOL! i was so embarressed. Our server came in to check on me, i am thinking i was a little loud in my vomiting. It was scary as the water poured out of my nose, i could not catch my breath. I felt bad pushing those people out of the way, but at least i did not puke on them.

Anyways, i have been on liquids and mushies today and feel okay. i do feel a little swollen, but also started today too.

Won't do that again, that was awful!

I am so glad to see you write about this. I have yet to vomit, but have been stuck a couple times and PB'd - NOT fun. One of the reasons I wanted the banding was because of the possibility of vomiting - no kidding. It is a major incentive to behave myself. PB'ing reminds of this. I have never understood those who are able to vomit without feeling totally horrible. And now I use it to my advantage. Your experience helps me stay on track - THANK YOU!!!! And CHEW, CHEW, CHEW!

<<<HUGS>>>

be careful. My band slipped from throwing up. I didnt throw up all the time either. I had a few vomiting sessions and next thing I know I was throwing up liquids. It didnt take alot for me to slip...

I only threw up a few times that night and it was not violent. just the water coming out of my nose was the horrific part. i stayed on liquids most of yesterday, had some tomato soup last night with no problems. eating runny oatmeal this morning and i feel fine. i now know what to do and not do B)

but i will be telling my doctor at my next fill appt next week. they always ask when you go in for a fill.

I throw up a lot... not violently... but I guess I haven't learned to chew well enough yet (at times) or when enough is enough. Again, this is a reason I wanted the band... to make me stop when it's time to stop!

I hope that the vomiting will not make my band slip, but I think it's (the vomiting) going to attribute to my success as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok now I'm feeling more normal, I've had to episodes within the last week where I got stuck and it was very painful. I made myself throw up and wow what a relief after wards but I did find I became very hungry.
