protein bars?

Hi all. I am starting my regular diet Thursday ( no more soft food!) and was wondering should I still drink protein shakes or can I try the bars? I'm tired of the same shakes everyday and want something different. I still don't get very hungry and only eat two small meals a day so I need something to supplement my protein. I know if I have no room then I need to drink a shake, but if I have the room is it ok to have a bar? Also I am 2 weeks out and weighed myself today and gained a pound :( Is this normal? I am on soft food now. Could it be TOM? I'm expecting it any day now. Thanks for any replies!

I haven't found any Protein Bars that are high protein, low carb, so I haven't taken to eating them. If you are tired of them, then by all means you should switch. Can you not get in your protein by eating meat, cheese, eggs etc? Also, look here http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ . she has great protein rich recipes.

I'd say the weight gain is from TOM - I gain about 5 lbs angry.gif. oh well, c'est la vie!

I am having trouble getting my protein in through my meals...I'm still not able to eat a lot. I go to Dr. Cywes/ Dr. Pinnar too. Thanks for the link, I will be sure to check it out.

I don't like protein bars, the are for the most part too much like candy, too high in calories for the long term, and basically a bunch of chemicals. Some of them actually burn in my mouth so I don't eat them. I make my own shakes so they are more natural and organic and frankly taste better. Also in the am when I have my shake, I could get down a protein bar with a crow bar. I am too tight in the am.

Maybe you could ask Jody or Ke'lani for some advice? A friend of mine drinks Protein shots she got at wal mart. Can't think of the name, but here are some links. These look good - I think i might try them!

One person on the forum used the powder shots and added crystal light to make it taste better. I'm so ordering these!

What side of town are you on?

I live in Georgia...but I'm only like 30-45 away from the office. I was planning on calling them too, just figured I would see what everyone else does. I'm just so tired of chocolate and vanilla shakes. I'm hoping I wont need them soon, I just still can't eat very much. I had a small chili from Wendy's today and could barely get it all down.

wow, i wish i had that problem! I had band plication on 6/27. I'm having restriction, able to go many hours without eating and eating about 1/4 of what i used to, but i'm still struggling.

I found a shake I really like, tastes like a snickers.

6oz almond milk - 4c/.5p

1 T chunky Peanut Butter (peter pan was lowest carb) -3c/4p

1 T whipped cream cheese (great value is lowest carb) -.5c/.5p

1.5 scoop Protein powder - 1.5c/37.5p

total: 9 carb / 42.5 protein

I blend it with ice and it's very tasty. Eggface has recipes for protein ice cream, cake, etc. Everything to add protein to. Maybe you could even try a crystal light Water with a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder for a smoothie? I think i'll try that, too! hth, gl!

I found an excellent Protein bar ar walgreens. It is called pure protein. I go with the chocolate Peanut Butter. It is 200 calories for 1 bar, has 6grams of fat, 16 grams of carbs, and 20 grams of protein. They do get a bit pricey but I mix them in during the week when I dont want anymore egg white for Breakfast.

Look at Supreme Protein Carb Conscious bars. They have a great taste to me, I don't have one in front of me to give the stats, but you can go to netrition.com and see the info. Make sure you're looking at the SNACK SIZE..

I get the majority of my protein from real food, but I do like something sweet right before bed. I cut one of these bars in half and have it for my bedtime snack. Keeps me full till morning and satisfies my desire for something sweet.
