I was banded yesterday, and I can't feel my port. Is this b/c my tummy is so swollen? Also the nurse in pre op said she was going to give me heparin to prevent clotting, however my friend and I don't remember me getting it. Should I be concerned? Also around my biggest incision it is numb? Is this normal?

Don't worry, I couldn't feel mine at first either. Your biggest incision is where the port is. Mine is below my belly button, and I can only feel it if I lay on my back and press into my abdomen. The area is still numb for me too, but I don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

As for the heparin, I got an injection right before surgery and two injections after (it was actually Lovenox, but they're similar drugs). When in doubt, don't be scared to ask!

I couldn't feel my port until I lost a significant amount of weight. Now it sticks out a little.

I couldn't feel mine until last week. Now since I've lost some more weight, I can feel it. I have heard that some people have a hard time feeling it even months after surgery. As for your heparin shot, maybe they gave it to you while you were still out? I would say call your doctor to double check, there's no harm in asking I would think... congrats on getting your band!
