Tentative diagnosis

Well, I have a tentative diagnosis. The interist thinks it is very likely that I have cushing's syndrome. So, I go for a new round of tests Friday to find out what kind I have, so i can start a treatment plan.

I'm in a weird place. This sort of makes it real, but yet not real. I don't want to go to work, but well, I have to. I just want to go to bed and sleep, which is what I usually do when depressed. I thought I'd be happy with an answer, but I have a head ache. My DH reminds me that it is only a tentative dignosis, even if it makes sense.

Cushing's Syndrom http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health/endo/pubs/cushings/cushings.htm

Cushing's syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure of the body's tissues to high levels of the hormone cortisol. Sometimes called "hypercortisolism," it is relatively rare and most commonly affects adults aged 20 to 50. An estimated 10 to 15 of every million people are affected each year.

... Treatment depends on the specific reason for cortisol excess and may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or the use of cortisol-inhibiting drugs. If the cause is long-term use of glucocorticoid hormones to treat another disorder, the doctor will gradually reduce the dosage to the lowest dose adequate for control of that disorder. Once control is established, the daily dose of glucocorticoid hormones may be doubled and given on alternate days to lessen side effects.

Gee, that could be an answer for lots of us. Maybe that's why my synthroid's not doing much for me. You've been through so much, yet your patience are better than I could ever imagine.

Take care!

Vines, Sorry To Hear That You Are Gong Through This. I Am Sending A Big Hug To You And You Will Be In My Prayers.

Could the high cortisol levels be connected to being raised by wolves? Just a crackpot theory. . .
This is my though also. I've had post-tramatic stress my entire life, I don't know how to live without being in a heightened state of panic. I think that envirment, combined with being on steroids as a small child and for long stretches as an adult.

Ill say pretty much what everyone else has. We are here for you and I am happy they finally have an answer....even if it is only tentative for you.

Hugs

We are waiting with Baited Breath for the "final answer". Big Hugs!! I hope they get this all figured out so that they can get to work on providing the cure...

Friday I go for more tests, but don't see the doc again for 2 weeks. Lastnight was really rough. I spent most of the evening in a darkened room crying off and on.

Today, I realized that I'm exactly the same as I was before. With one small difference. I know why I'm not losing. I don't have to beat myself up anymore for not "doing this right." Because all along I've been doing this right, at least as far as my instruction set said to do it. So, I'll go about my day, living my bandster lifestyle and trying to not sweat the small stuff.

Crystal, so sorry you have to go through this. Hope everything turns out for the best. Is there anything I can do to help you? Rae

I wondered... 'bated - short for Abated - another way to say - we're holding our breath waiting... Love the odd word-origin things... ****END-HIJACK***

I only just saw this. Crystal, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this! Hopefully you do find comfort in the fact that you'll atleast be getting answers soon. Then they'll have you fixed up as good as new :cake:

Sending lots good thoughts and hugs your way. You're in my thoughts...

Vines, I hope that is not what it is but I really want you to have a diagnosis. My doctor thought I had this and sent me to the Endocrinologist. That doc yelled at me and told me that Cushings is a very hard disease to live with and the people that have it are in constant pain. I told him I was just coming on what my doc told me and I had to pee in a jug for a week. He told me I didn't have it and that I needed to lay off the bread and pasta or I would have diabetes by the time I was 30. He scared the crap out of me and was a horrible guy. I hope your time is much easier than mine was and I hope it is not this!!! Good luck, and know that you are in my thoughts.!!
