You aren't really going to have restriction at first. your body is still in the healing stages. Unfortunatly, until you start getting fills, you are going to be hungry. This is when portioning out your food ahead of time is key. Measure out your food, focus on your protein, fruits and veggies first, and then carbs. If you are still hungry an hour later, drink some water. You only want to eat if you are truly hungry. It's hard to realize sometimes what actual hunger is, and head hunger. A year and a 4 months out, I still have issues with that sometimes. When you are portioning things out, if you have to, use a measuring cup. Or, weight watchers has some serving spoons that are peasuring cups added on. I'm not sure if they have them any more though. When I need to portion stuff out onto my plate, I use my measuring cups I use for baking. Good Luck.

You can use measuring cups or a kitchen scale to help you with portion size. Also, my surgeon's orders are not to drink 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating. I use my iphone timer to make sure I don't forget.

Once you are on solids you will eat around a cup to a cup and a half of food per meal. I'd look at calories.. and also pay attention to when you are full. I don't think it's really about the amount you eat.. if you eat enough you are satisfied and full, if you eat too much you will get all gassy and feel icky. But as said above without a fill, you might still be hungry. For me, my appetite is so little, and my hunger level is so low, it's hard to really gorge and eat way too much, and I feel sick if I do eat too much.

I don't drink with my meal, and I try to wait 30 minutes after I eat to drink. Before, maybe 15 minutes, unless I just chugged a ton of Water. I think as long as you aren't drinking WITH your meal, or immediately following you will be fine.

My PA's response was that he wanted me not to worry about weight loss at all. The first 4- 6 weeks was about healing. He actually said that some folks gain a litlle weight back until their fills start. My first fill was at the 4 week point.

But then he asked these questions: How much do you eat. I told him 1-1/2 cups of food. He said that's ok.

How often are you hungry each day. "About every five hours". That's about right he said.

Are you throwing up or in discomford. "NO". Well, you seem good then.

He told me that without a fill I could expect these feelings and not to worry that this was a lifetime thing and not something we have to have perfect in the first month or even two.

If you are worried, call and share your concern with some one on your medical team. I called about 1 per week with my questions and talked to the office nurse/secretary and she either routed me to the PA or helped me herself.

I would say that is exactly how you should feel 1-11/2 cups of food, 5 hours between meals, and not getting sick. That is what is working for me. If you can't go five hours then it's fill time.

I just watch calories... I aim for 1200 calories a day, 60 grams of protein and at least 60 ounces of water. I have 5cc's in an 11cc band, but still have NO restriction

Some people have no hunger without fills. Some need fills. For now, I'd just go with portioning your meals and doing the best you can at going 4-5 hours to your next meal. If you need a small mid-meal snack, have a hard boiled egg or piece of cheese or some type of Protein...even a low carb/low cal Protein shake will work because it's the protein that helps with the hunger.

My surgeon said 3 oz of protein and 1/2-1 cup of vegies at a meal. I do Atkins so that fit perfectly with the way I chose to eat.
