Ugh I did it again!

The last two days I got stuck at lunch. Only 2 out of the 3 ladies that sit with me at lunch know. The lady that doesn't know looks at me funny and asked if I were pregnant today LMAO! she thinks im going to the bathroom to throw up which is kind of true but not. I get so hungry im at the point where i swallow the first 2-3 bites. Ugh it hurts so much and I get up to walk and go to the bathroom. It's so much more comfortable when I get stuck at home rather than at the office. Im about to just tell her I got the lapband so she can leave me alone lol . Also, she looks at what I eat and asks thats all? annoying! what do you do when you get stuck infront of strangers? Im going to run out of excuses why im going to the bathroom. I dont want her thinking im on the toilet that long or making myself puke.

It happens when I start eating......Im so hungry that i think i swallow the food instead of chewing chewing chewing.

Its good that you recognize that you eat and swallow the first few bites of food to fast so just keep that in mind and try to remember to slow down and chew VERY well.

OMG! This has been happening to me a lot for the last couple of weeks. I did research on this board and they call it the 'first bite syndrome'. When I go to lunch with others, I tend to forget that I have the band and start eating normally and not thinking about bites, speed or any of that. I would get stuck so bad . It would hurt so much and my coworkers don't know about my surgery (I have a new job). It really got embarrassing because I would try to act like nothing was happening and try to talk all the while having the worst pain and sliming all over the place :( All I kept hearing was 'Are you alright?'

So once I read that this was actually something that did happen and others were having the same problem, I started to really try to concentrate on how I took those first bites. I made sure that they were half the size of what I was doing before. It's hard to control something you are so used to doing and especially when you are distracted. But, it's worked so far and I haven't had another incident. :)

That's exactly what happens Julia! You are so right! I was trying to cover it up but I couldn't, it hurt so much and i started getting hot. I ran for the bathroom gasping for air. It cuts my air intake and I feel like im choking along with sliming :( finally it goes down and feels better, atleast at home it doesnt matter how long it takes for it to go down. But at work, I feel like im timed. I need to concentrate alot more and slow it down. I know :(

For me... eating too fast gets me everytime, also... too big of a bite no matter how much I chew it. I've finally thought I caught on but had a really bad stuck episode last night. Still don't feel right. Just been eating mushies today. They are staying down ok, but just a few bites have been filling me right up. Ugh...
