port swelling

I have had swelling in my port area since the day after my surgery. It doesn't ever seem to go down unless I put some ice on it for a period of time. I'm still tender in that spot as well. Has anybody else experienced this? I've talked to a few people now that have told me that either their port was never swollen, or that their swelling was gone after a week. I'm 11 days out. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 18th. Untill then I'm not sure what to do. Is the swelling normal that you know of?

Thank you in advance for giving me some advice. :) Much appreciated!

I had some swelling after surgery but not 11 days later...you may want to call your surgeons office and ask them if its normal. Better safe than sorry!!

Congratulations on your surgery!

Sara

How much swelling, can you describe it? Definitely call the docs office and talk to a nurse or someone like that who knows...maybe you can move your appointment up so they can check it out? Maybe you could even email them a picture of it and have them tell you something from that? Just a thought. Ice is always good for swelling but don't do it for more than 15 minutes my doc said...also I did have swelling but it went away.

Is the site red, itchy...what's it look like? Do you think it looks infected....or does it just seem to be sticking out there?

My port was tender for weeks. I'd give it time.

The area....it' not red or inflamed or infected looking. Just bulging out a little. It looks a little bit like there's an egg sticking out from under my skin, but smaller of course...by a little bit. I could try to move the appointment up. I'll have to self-pay for the visit though, so I'm not sure if I'll have money in time. =( I will definitely call my surgeons office and see if I can send a picture or something.

Hello,

I had plastic surgery about a month ago, and there was swelling near my abdomen. It lasted for around a week or so I don't exactly remember but yes gradually it disappeared. So you should consult your surgeon if there is some severe problem but generally it takes a little bit of time to recover.
