Does/did anyone else have to stay the night at the hospital? My clinic requires it, not only that but I have to spend the ENTIRE next day there as well. Was told I wouldn't be discharged until 3:00 or 4:00pm Wednesday (surgery is Tuesday). The late discharge is so we can take yet ANOTHER "class" on what you can and cannot do post op. I'm really annoyed that I have to stay the night, I've had more invasive procedures where they were pushing me out the door as they were trying to wake me up. I don't get it.

My insurance requires that I stay for a certain number of hours, or they will not pay... Also, my doctor stated that because I have sleep apnea he is keeping me over night. Although I am a little disappointed about having to be away from my children over night, I am grateful for the surgery, so I will do anything they tell me too...LOL GOOD LUCK BTW I check in tomorrow at 7:30 am so HAPPY BAND DAY TO ME !!!!!

I did have to spend the night. My surgery was at noon, I was released the following day about noon. I have sleep apnea and always have much trouble coming back from anesthesia so my dr wanted me overnight. I didn't want to stay, but looking back it was a good thing. I got better pain and nausea management thru my IV than I would have had at home, also I was very anxious and nervous about the whole deal and it was reassuring to be surrounded by nurses. I was also walking a bit wobbly for a good spell. I don't know why but my oxygen level and heart rate were going so low they set off the monitors several times. Anyway, moral of my story....bring a bag, try to relax and realize that even 1 night in the hospital is a very short time.

Hi Pamalamadingdong Maybe thats the hospitals procedures that with that type of surgery you are requires to stay the night,or maybe with the info that the doctor has is his or her file it would be good to let you stay there,I havn't had my surgery yet but with some insurances they require for you to stay,maybe you have blood pressure problems or maybe diebetes or any little thing,when I go for my surgery I would love to stay just to make sure htat every thing is ok andI get enough rest,If you are that persistant about Im quite sure that they will either let you know the reason or will make an acception to let you go home..either way good luck with every thing and keep us posted on your progress...and If you can please relax and get some needed rest because this is a surgery ,..you can bring your MP3 or even some of your ravorite things to do like cards or eletriconics for fun to keep your mind occupied...Just relax it will be ok ...my prayers are with you...Camille01

I'm HOPING to stay overnight; I like the idea of someone professional keeping an eye on me a little longer, plus I wouldn't have to come back the next day for the barium test. I don't have kids so I don't know what it's like to be away from them, but yeah, I say enjoy the extra time in the hospital. I too have had worse procedures and was sent home the same day and was wishing for a little more time to be 'taken care of', so to speak.

I was overnight because that is just what my surgeon does with all of his patients. I could have stayed a second night if I wanted to, but I was ready to head home. It does seem strange in our drive through surgery society to be staying for a relatively simple surgery, but try to enjoy the benefits - you will need to be on IV fluids and they will be able to better manage your pain with an IV.

Rest is very important early on - hopefully you will be comfortable and well rested and can get going the next day, feeling well and ready to go home.

This may sound silly, but try to trust your doctor if you can... I mean that in a good way, I hope it comes off the page as I intended it.

I have to stay overnight as well. I am actually grateful that I have to stay, I will feel much better being monitered at night. I will miss my daughter but I am actually a little more comfortable knowing I will have nurses watching over me..

My Dr. said I woud only have to spend the night, if they have to convert to an open procedure. WHich I totally hope not, I don't want that kind of recovery, I know it is pretty rare that they do though.

I have no health problems, I have HBP, but it is very mild and very well controlled with my meds, and I've only been on meds for 3 months. I just prefer to sleep at home in my own bed. I've spent the night at this hospital before and lets just say I got less than stellar care, being one of 3 patients on the floor you would think that I would have better care but it just made the staff lazy.

The only reason I'm doing it there is becuase it is this is where the dr goes, and it is the only dr my insurance covers. Other wise I'd have gone to the other clinic in town.

The hospital has me listed as staying overnight for my 2pm surgery time. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'd like to believe I'll bounce right back after surgery, being somewhat young and all, I'd rather go home. I guess we'll see in a few hours...

Jus ta question to ask,What type of insurance do you have,I have Ghi and BCBS,my husband has it thruogh his Job and I am hoping to have every thing go quik like I see the way your has ,I've had my siminar on Dec 2nd andmy first appt. is on Jan 10th,thats to get I guess the reat of my info and to meet the neutri,and I think the doctor,I have started my 6 month diet prog.through my PCP

and I have my refferel,Im just waiting to see what else I need to do,I know I have to go to 2 group meetings<i got the schedule for that,but its in Feb,still pushing things off,I am ready to start,and get started.......

My husband's military so I have Tricare; from what I've read if you meet their requirements they're very quick to approve. I have been very fortunate this time around as I have had difficulty with them in the past. My doctor's office didn't require as much as yours seems to; don't know if that's good or bad. thank you so much,I am sure that the insurance will approve the surgery,I recieved a letter from them but it is all in what they require,I sent them an email questioning them about that procedure and they said that the insurance will cover it but the wait in sometimes unbarrable,I just have to find out what there requirments are and the co-pay ,.....thanks so much for the info it was a big help...camille01

It really depends on your doctor, your medical health and your insurance. I know that in my case I went in at 5:30 a.m. in 11/29. I had surgery at 7:30 a.m. and was sent home at 2:00 p.m. the same day. In my case, I qualified for single-incision and had no co-morbidities. I am just fat. LOL. After the surgery, I had a liquid meal (italian ice and hot tea). I swallowed with no problems. I got up and walked with no problems and urinated. I had a follow up call from the hospital and the surgeon the following day. I had my two week check up yesterday, and they did the barium swallow then.

There really is no one size fit all with any stage of the Lap-Band Surgery.

My surgeon requires that all her patients stay overnight regardless of health. She just rather be on the safe side. I'm scheduled for surgery on the 16th and I am staying overnight even though I'm completely healthy... just fat. Like others have said, I'm glad I am because I've heard from others that the pains meds you get through your IV are very helpful. Besides, I have two toddlers at home. There's no way they would just let me sleep/rest.

I work nights in the hospital and know I'm not goin g to be monitored THAT close but am willing to put up with the crazy old lady I'm sure I will get stuck next to who will keep me up all night tomorrow just to keep the iv meds till some of the expected gas pain is gone and for hydration...but if I had my way I would be in my own bed tomorrow night
