No Bowel Movement 4 Days Post Op

I had my surgery on Sept 29th and I haven't had a bowel movement since then. My last movement was on Monday afternoon so I'm not sure if Tuesday actually counts. However, I have been taking the protein in and the broth as I was instructed and I haven't been able to go. My tummy isn't in any discomfort as of now I'm just getting concerned. I also started my cycle which may be TMI but normally that makes me go all the time. I'm not sure if I'm getting enough water in me though. Today I'm going to aim at more water less protein. Has anyone experienced this?

as long as you're not experiencing discomfort, there is no cause for concern.

You're simply taking in so little that there's less moving through your body.

Anesthesia and pain meds contribute to the slowdown.

Don't be alarmed if you experience diarrhea when things do start moving; it's very common.

Thanks for asking this question! I too was operated on on 9/29 and I'm in the same boat. Glad to hear it is typical:)

it took me 7 days before i had a bowel movment. someone told me take mineral oilor colace because you dont want to become constipated. then i didn't go for another 3 days. i finally went this a.m. but this afternoon had a diaraheea? spurt. but we have to remember nothing is going in our stomachs but liquids.

My doctor told me to take milk of magnesia. While it is common to have no bowl movements post-op, it is very annoying. Hope you feel better, I did after the magnesia:thumbup:

OH...I had this same thing as well..and honey...Milk of Magnesia helped soooooo much!! It works faster than the pills for me...

hi dont worry its pretty normal. since youre taking liquids, theres nothing solid in your system to flush out. i did number 2 5 days post of and it was mostly just liquid (eewww)

same here I didnt have a bowell movement for about 5 days or so and I was starting to get worried...... butt in the end it all came out ok....LOL(sorry couldnt help myself)
