Stomach flu/throwing up

Recommended Posts

So, what do you do if you have the stomach flu and need to throw up? I have heard of possible band-displacement happening if this occurs. I heard one lady say she can not throw up with the Band, it goes out the other end. Someone else said go the emergency room or your doc and get an unfill. What do you think? Has this happened to you, what did you do, were there any complications?

I am asking this because 2x this month:crying: my kids have brought home a stomach virus. The first time they were all throwing up. I just had the runs super super bad and was nauseous. The scond time, last night.. again I only had the severe runs. Only this time I did feel like I needed to throw up, but when I did, it was just a LOT of air! I felt so much better then.

But I wondered what I should do if I DID start throwing up... what do you think? Thanks!

Jen

When I was discharged, I was told that if I got the flu and was throwing up to call them and, depending on how often I was throwing up and/or whether I was having difficulty throwing up, I might have to come in for an unfill. He said there wasn't much worry of band slippage or erosion unless the barfing was long term (similar to a bulimic) but he takes it on a case by case situation based on how severe the retching is.

I'm not sure. I know I had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago and my surgeon was adamant that I get a bottle of Phenergan before hand and take it around the clock for the first 3 days to prevent any vomiting. He even gave me extra just in case the kids bring home a virus or something.

I had a stomach bug about a month ago where I threw up consistently for 24 hours. I called my doctor first thing after I started. They wanted to know how often I had thrown up in the last hour, which was like 5 times. They said that when I stopped, stick to Clear Liquids for 24 hours, full liquids for 24 hours and mushies for 24 hours. If I had no problems with any of those, I would be fine, but if I had trouble getting any of those down, to come into the office.

If you have a problem at that point, wouldnt it be too late????????

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
