HELP!!! Having diarrhea on PUREE diet!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I really need help with this and the nurses seem baffled. I was banded on 8/5/2010. I had some initial diarrhea the first 5 days, but then it went away. But when I switched to puree, I started having horrible cramping and runny, powdery, watery stools (sorry for the grossness). One night I was even up all night because of the gas.

I started taking something different for the gas and I have been doing the puree version of the BRATT diet for diarrhea (bananas, rice, applesauce, tea and toast), but I'm still having the diarrhea!!!!

I've seen a lot of forums for diarrhea in the days immediately post op for people still on the liquid diet, but I'm already several days into the puree diet, and I REALLY REALLY need some help for this new diarrhea, that not even the BRATT diet is helping, since I am starting law school again THIS MONDAY!!! :'(

(oh, and immodium wasn't really helping either)

Has this or anything like this happened to anyone else? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try increasing your Fiber. You can get the mixes that go in your Water. This will help to bulk up your stool again.

Good Luck!

I've had some trouble with this too. Gas has been awful. The only thing I found that helped with the gas was a product called Phazyme (sp). It cost about $12 at Walmart but it did the trick. I still can't figure out the loose stools though. Could be some of the meds I'm on. Can't wait till I get rid of them -- some day!

I had that for a couple of days after I was banded. My body went into shock. It went away on its own and I have not had that problem again. Of course I have the opposite problem now and have to take a stool softner. UGH.

i would try to add more Fiber in your diet but i'd also skip the rice. are you having probs with toast at all? yes i know some peeps can eat it with no probs but most can't. i had the same prob and my dr told me sometimes it takes your body a lil while to get used to things. your body is changing as well. you were just banded about 2 wks ago and thats really not long at all.

I had the same problem, some of the pureed foods where too rich, or just irritated my tummy, I drank more Water because it's a sign of dehiadration. I was drinking pedalite ( that stuff for babies/ kids )and it helped it.. i did water it down, because the taste took sometime to get use to...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
