Why SF Jello and Popsicles?

I was telling a family member about my routine foods that I eat post surgery and post fills. I mentioned SF jello and SF popsicles. She wanted to know why the items had to be Sugar Free. My immediate response was, "Because my surgeon said so", but I'd like to provide a more informative answer. I know that less simple sugar in your diet is better for cravings and weightloss but is this the justification for eating SF jello and popsicles? Please give me your input.

Thanks!

Sugar turns into fat. I lost a good amount of weight just cutting out the sugar.
