Questions on First Month Pre-op

Is the band suppose to work unfilled? I am 2 weeks post op today and will not have my first fill until 4 weeks from now. Should I be expecting much weight loss during this month? Is the band designed to work at all during this time? Thanks.

I was banded on May 24th; my first fill is Jul 6th. My pre-op weight: 230 My weight this morning: 205

It is vital during this period especially that you do not drink anything 30 min before eating anything, and wait an additional 30 min after eating. It took me about a week and a half to get this concept down; it's a difficult habit to get in to (was for me). Also 3 weeks post-op I started an exercise routine. Walking 30 min a day, then switched to water aerobics. I felt I was able to eat way too much but the doc says I'm still losing so not to worry. He said he would give me the max fill on Jul 6th. Seriously, I'm able to eat pretty much anything I want and about 4 or 5 cups per meal. I am eating heathly though. No liquid calories, lots of fruit and vegetables and lean meat.

Best of luck to you.

Most will agree that the band isn't work at its peak until you find your sweet spot. After the post op swelling goes down you will need to use will power and self restraint to keep losing.(you will see it called bandster hell on here) I have had one fill of 5cc in a realize band and still don't have good restriction...

thanks for the feedback.. i just feel so hungry between meals and feel like i can eath anything.

OMG.

4 or 5 cups per meal? What were your portions pre-op?

I'm 3 months post op and my meals average just over 6 oz. I am 308 pounds now having shed 79 pounds so far. I also exercise 45 minutes a day. I do have periods of extreme but managed hunger. I am amazed at the 4 - 5 cups / meal though. Has your nutritionist chimed in on this?

Its not the same for everybody ! I didnt have my first fill untill 5 months post op.I had restriction with no fill for that long and lost my first 50 lbs. I had a 4cc fill at 6 months.then had a unfill of 2 cc could'nt eat. This week I am going to have a additional 1 cc added because I am feeling the restriction leaving me. Your story will be different just wait and see.............
