How long after surgery can you use the tanning bed:mellow:

Pretty much any time, I would think.

I think it will be great for you to get, along with your new, slim body, some wonderful prematurely aged Skin and wrinkles, along with a nice dose of Skin Cancer.

Isn't life wonderful, where we get to make all of these really lousy decisions for ourselves?

Spartan, I think the biggest thing to worry about is scaring. Sun or faux sun can cause issues with your scar tissue not healing as well. After both my gallbladder surgery and getting my appendix out, I covered my scars with the towel in order to avoid exposing them to sun.

Not cool Spartan...Although I agree with you that tanning beds are not great ridiculing someone is not going to make them listen to you and in fact will often cause them not to hear what good advice you may have.

Newgmp - I was a tanned goddess when I was younger (now I'm 41)...oh how I miss those days!! I felt like it really did give me a mood boost!! I don't think I could do it anymore because of health risks, but that is everyone's own decision.

I do recall reading something in a book about waiting an entire year before tanning due to your scars. I think it can effect the healing like kelking said.

Hey - the good news...I've heard the spray tans they have now are a million times better than the ones back in the day that make people look like oopa loompas!! Maybe try that!! Good luck to you!!

I tanned about 6 weeks post op & had no trouble at all. I would ask you doctor. My doctor said to wait until my incisions had healed or completely scabbed over. Honestly scarring wasn't an issue for me because after 2 c-sections, gallbladder surgey, & now LapBand surgery, I have plenty of scars (hopefully a little plastic surgery is in my future)

Let your incisions heal then tan in moderation-

my doctor said 3 weeks... i started tanning again last week. I have very fair skin so i have to tan or i burn to a crisp which im sure gives me a higher chance of cancer.. *rolls eyes*

A few wrinkles and a dose of skin cancer is probably easier to live with than a permanent case of sh*t on the liver.

If you make the grown up informed decision to tan after weighing up the pros and cons, I'd just wait till your scars are well closed and fairly healed.

The spray tan or "mistic" tan sounds like a great idea.

I used to be the queen of tanning in the sun and tanning beds. Now my skin shows it. I stopped about 4 years ago.

Yea, Spartan can be uncool sometimes. He has already been kicked off LBT before when his name was Headhunter. Just ignore him when he is being a jerk. Sometimes you just have to do that and wade through the BS when people have bad manners.

Try the spray on tanners, my aunt is currently trying them out and she loves them, they look very natural. :thumbup:

As for me, I'm pale and proud.

I love the mystic tan! But I wouldnt want to have to do it all the time to maintain permanent colour.

I dont know about tanning. Its so bad for you, we know that, but I love how people can get so moralistic about it, yet they smoke or are overweight etc. I'm going to Thailand in September and I am not taking my wintry pasty white Melbourne complexion into the tropical sun with no preparation. I agree, a couple of weeks building a base tan in a bed has got to be better for you than burning to a blistering mess on a holiday.

You'd NEVER find a doctor in Australia to condone that though, we have such high rates of skin cancer here.

If you wait until July you can pay 10% extra to tan, so wait untill then we need to get the govt out of debt. Thank you president obama for placing an additonal 10% tax on indoor tanners! This was part of the health care reform that just passed an it is the 1st thing to go into effect from that law!
