I am pre-lapband surgery. Going to do blood work, EKG, etc in a few days. None of that really bothers me, except for my mental evaluation. I am not sure why I have to have a psych evaluation. What does the psych doctor ask?

Don't worry about it. They just want to make sure you are not crazy. I had to do the psych evaluation as well. I took a personality test and he asked me some questions about my life and why I wanted a band. It was no big deal. At the end of our session, I asked if he had ever recommended that someone NOT get the band and he said just once... it was a lady who had split personalities and he said no b/c she already had enough "stuff" inside of her.

The biggest thing that the shink wanted to check on with me was to make sure I had realistic expectations about the band. Understanding that is a tool for weight loss and not some magic bullet that will do all the work. Once she realized I had researched it and knew what to expect, she signed off and wished me luck. I agree with previous respondents that the psych visit is no big deal. The only words of caution I would throw out there is that if you are going through insurance make sure you know exactly which tests are required by your insurance company. I went in for for first visit, we chatted, I took the test she normally gives and everything was submitted to insurance. Only to then find out that my insurance had very specific tests they want me to have gone through, so I had to go back and sit through more tests...still awaiting those results to be written up and sent through insurance with a month wasted in between.
