How long after surgery before your first bowel movement.

I'm 2 days post op and yet to have one. Is this normal? Am I constipated? I've been passing some gas every now and then. Thanks for any insight.

Had surgery Monday June 13 . And nothing yet but lots of gas in my chest. But not eating much substance anyway. Wonder if I should take something??

It took me 6 days and was not terribly painful. Just make sure you are drinking plenty.

Mu surgery was on a monday and I didn't have a bm until the saturday after.

Well today has been 7 days took a laxative last 2 days and fiber chewable tablets today. Dr. Wants me to call tomorrow if nothing. But hey the gas is better. Lol and losing weight!

Sounds good, goodluck. Losing weight feels so good.....

I have had the complete opposite happen to me! But then again, I have stayed on a semi-clear liquid diet for my first week. Diet Cran, Diet Grape and Water. When I get a little hungrey, I have a sugar free Jello. I am already 12 pounds down and 5 days post-op!!! Maybe that might help!!

Me too... I think it was all the liquids. Liquids went in, and liquids went out (sorry, that's really gross, I'm sure). You and I are losing weight about the same rate, btw. I'm 23 pounds down and was banded almost 2 weeks ago.

*edit I realize now I just quoted something from May... d'oh.

it was 3 days post op for me but I did drink some milk of magnesia since that was on my post op home care instructions if I felt constipated.
