Loosing Hair Post-Op

I am pretty much accepting any changes (good and bad) the Lap Band will bring me. However, I am a little upset about the idea that I may loose some, half or whatever of my hair!:unsure: Sounds like eating more Protein, etc. doesn't really help, and you have to loose it and then it will grow back.

Experiences please!

my band is still a baby (only one week old today) so i can't share any post banding hair loss experience of my own. however, i do know that a friend of mine started losing her hair pretty bad a few months after banding and the hair loss lasted for a while and then slowly started thickening up again. i figured it was from Protein issues but i noticed someone here mentioned the anesthesia and i have the urge to think that might more be the issue. the reason i think that is because i know that after having both my kids (and receiving epidurals) i had horrible hair loss for months and i didn't have any other health issues then. who knows? i hope my hair doesn't start going. if it does, i'm doing the nioxin thing someone mentioned!

just so that you know when you are preggers your hair does not shed at all so when you give birth using anestetic or not the hormonal shift makes your hair fall out.

i too use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and i also take 50 mg of zinc

zinc stops the hair loss and i noticed it within the first week

good luck

Thanks Cathy - This is the first I heard about zinc. Chewable zinc I suppose. Thanks so much for the tip!

Kathy,

Another question...how long do you take the zinc for?

i buy the tablets at Target, and i just break the tablet in half and i have no problems swallowing it.

take the zinc forever, and i increased my vitamin D to 2,000 mg a day

good luck

My hair started falling out in handfuls the second week of my pre-op diet. So far I've lost about 1/3 of my hair and it's not slowing down. At this rate I'll be bald by fall.

The possibility of losing my hair is frightening. I hope that doesn't happen. I take Biotin, Vitamin B6 and B12, milk thistle and kelp which are also supposed to promote healthy hair. I'm due for my banding on April 18th. I hope I've successfully protected my hair. It's great to be able to read all of these posts prior to my date.

How do I add that ticker to the bottom of my page?
