when your DR doesn't want to do fills....

Recommended Posts

what do you do when your surgeon doesn't really want to do fills?I was banded in August 09...I have lost 30 pounds but I only have 3cc in my 14cc band. I have NO restriction. My band started out empty...fist fill 8 weeks after surgery. 1.5cc, next fill 6 more weeks....1/2c...3rd fill 12 weeks after that 1.0cc! He doesn't want to see me back for ANOTHER 12 weeks. I am eating less than I used to and trying to concentrate on Proteins and A LOT less carbs...but if I had the willpower to do it myself, I would never have gotten the band. Help!

You know, I would say you need to find another doc to do your fills and follow up care. I have an 11cc band and it took 7.5ccs to finally feel restriction. I was banded in Mexico (by an amazing surgeon) but I live in Indiana. So, it was really too far for me to travel back for fills and follow up. I now use the Fill Centers USA for my fills / follow up and I've been pleased. The doc I see really listens to me and is just generally great. She's put in more ccs per visit than the "usual protocol" recommends, because I was having no restriction. She also has done her own research into my band size and how much she can put in.

The most important thing is that your doctor listens to you and treats you accordingly. You had the band placed because you needed help with weight loss, like everyone here did. You deserve to have the band work the way it's supposed to, and it won't if it doesn't have enough Fluid in it to cause restriction.

Good Luck!

I agree. Find a new doctor. Mine has listened to me and done fills when I indicate I need one. Best of luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
