Weight gain

Hello, I am thinking that this may be normal; I had my lap band procedure done 12/21/09 and had been losing until I returned to work and was given the clearance to eat 3 small meals daily. I have started to gain weight:mad: Has any one else experienced this? I have been stopping eating when I feel full and am trying to make good food choices.

Yes, it can happen prior to hitting the sweet spot with fills. If you did a liquid pre-op diet, that was sort of a crash diet, and now you are eating solids again. Often when people go off a crash diet they gain weight.

My surgeon told me not to be surprised if I gained. Don't beat yourself up. Any losses you have during this time will be a good thing, yes, but will be due to willpower alone, not with any help from the band. That assistance will come with fills.

Even though you're stopping when you're full and making good choices, you're still most likely eating more than you did prior to eating real meals. So it's normal to have a bit of a gain when you go back to eating. Hang in there.

Also, just a heads up on watching what 'full' means. Prior to restriction, if I ate until I was 'full', I'd put away enough food for 3 adults. :)

One thing I found helpful in controlling the amount of food I took (since I didn't weigh and measure) was to eat off a small dessert plate. It's pretty hard to overdo it on a 6" plate.

I am in the same boat! I had surgery 12/16 and have since gained a couple of pounds! :) It is very frustrating and I am counting down the days till 1st fill (1/29). I really hope it turns this around (even just a little). I know I really don't have much restriction (although there is some because I could eat alot more before), but I have been making good food choices and making sure I don't eat alot and exercising---but still nada! Praying it gets better for the both of us!! I really wanted to be under 200lbs for my vacation in May, but I don't know if I see it happening now:unsure:.

I would think that part of that is the body readjusting fluid wise. Just like the first pounds lost are fluid, the first gained usually are too.
