Banded, 12/29/09, questions

I am on day three! Day one I thought 'peice of cake' - day two I thought 'I am a tough cookie' (excuse my food references!)- today I am saying hellllllp! I am very uncomfortable. I have not been passing very much gas......how long till I get rid of the bloating?? My shoulder does not hurt at all, but diaphram is really hurting and I am not breathing deeply unless I realize and make myself. I walked several times yesterday for a long time.

I suffered terribly for almost 7 days with gas issues. The combination of gas X strips and walking (try with your arms up sometimes) was the only thing that helped. It sucked because I had no energy to walk. I hated that was the only advise I got was walk, walk, walk. But it was the only thing that finally helped. Good luck. I know this is rough....but it will pass.

I was banded 12/30/09 and I am alos having the diaphram pain. I also had a hital hernia repaired and thought maybe that is what it was. However, I am passing a lot of gas and burping. I am so excited about my new way of life:)

Hi, I was banded on 12/24 and the first 4 days were tough. Day 5 is a lot better and now day 7..I feel great. The gas will pass. I don't have any now. No shoulder pain. Diaphragm also hurt from hernia sugery that was quite major. Putting myself in bed early after doing light stuff during the day helped. Rest, rest, and do deep breathing exercises. I had horrible shoulder pain but that has totally gone away.

Best of luck to you..Happy New Year!

Gas-X and moving around as much as possible. Even try waving your arms over your head. Hiatal hernie repair comes with some additional discomfort in the diaphraghm area and since I didn't have that problem I don't have much insight.

In addition to the above recommendations, I'd suggest a heating pad on your shoulder for any gas pains that settle there. Also, stay ahead of the pain with your pain medications! If your surgeon says you can take it every 4 hours, then do it! If you let the gas pains get too bad, then it takes even longer for the pain meds to react. So stay on schedule. Otherwise, time will help. By about day 5-6, I didn't have much gas pain at all, and if so, it was in my shoulder (like the actual upper part of my arm where you might get a shot) late in the evening.
