  1. I got mine at slimband. I am down 30 lbs. I have been vlogging my progress on YouTube (moniquesjourney). That's been a lot of fun. I am adjusting well to eating with the band. Are you excited?. I am excited and very nervous!! My eating is out of control, because I feel I will never be able to have those foods again.....I know this is not rational, but I am still overeating ugh!!!! I thought slim band went out of business?? How expensive was that??

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

See this Dark Haired beauty on the SLIMBAND ad? well thats my FILL nurse in Toronto Canada. I went for a 1/4CC fill yesterday, and also a consult appt with Jill the Nutricianist. I am going back on the Pre-op diet for a week or two then I am going back to T.O. for a weight-in. This way I will be accountable. I've had a sloppy summer food wise, no gain, but no losses either... I just beat myself up thinking about all that money that I have wastd! Well, no more. I really only go "out of control" from 7 - 10 p.m. Well as Jill pointed out that only 3 hrs out of 24!!! dah... not so much of a change needs to be made to get back on track. Develop different strategies for coping during those 3 hours.... Eat a bag of salad with Bals. vin dress, eat some frozen fruit(slowly and chew) I am going to track all my meals and then SHOW them to HER on my weight in day. If I can just tame the sugar monster the rest will follow!! Now I have to go back and re-read pages 748 and forward... Hugs to all
  4. hi there, did you go through Slimband in Toronto? I have my surgery there on Nov 22nd. Teresa

  5. I am a 34 year old working mom. I have 2 kids that are 6 and 7 (grade 1 and 2). I work with family. I have been struggling with my weight my whole life. I was always the cubby kids. I have done various things throu out my weight loss fight. I even resorted to taking laxatives for a year, which inturn caused me to have IBS and a spastic large bowl. I did loose 40 lbs,, but gained that back and more.

I want to be able to look in the mirror at myself, and feel good about what I see instead of getting totally disgusted. I have never liked what I saw.

I have been researching the slimband/lapband for a few years. I am sure this is the procedure for me. I just have to convience someone (my other half) which has never had a fat day in his slim life. He doesn't think it should be the difficult to loose weight. ..... ohhh to have that his problem having to worry.

  6. I am from Edmonton, Alberta Canada and I am having my surgery on April 27th in Toronto at the Slimband clinic. Slimband has a clinic in Edmonton but only does the surgeries in Toronto. I fly to Toronto on April 26th and fly back to Edmonton on April 28th the day after my surgery. I assume this is quite common as they have enough patients here to support a clinic but I'm wondering if anyone has done this and could let me know what to expect. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable during a 4 hour flight. I've booked a seat with extra leg room for the return flight. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to make my return travel as comfortable as possible?
  7. so done with it all

    Are they the same

Lap-band is the trademarked name of the Allergan band. Slimband is the name of a clinic.
  8. Has there been any studies demonstrating that some brand of gastric bands are superior to others? I will be banded with Slimband which uses the Cousin Bioring and I'm worried that it will be inferior to the LAP-BAND. Do they all get about the same results?
  9. I am trying to research places in Toronto ON for a Lapband Procedure in the near future( I hope) Can any of you recommend I have read SLIMBAND websites...and "The Toronto Surgical Weight Loss Centre" Both sound awesome. I have a consult with one of the surgeons tomorrow ( via telephone as i live 13 hours away), But it would help immensely if someone could give me advice if you were a person who had to travel a distance to get banded. Thanks Shel
  10. I am planning to have my surgery and fills through the canadian company Slimband. I have joined their forum, but for some reason cannot post or communicate with anyone, My consultant is looking into that for me. But I really want to connect with people who have used them and how it has worked out. I am from Alberta. If anyone is a slimband patient please respond. I would love to be in touch with you!!
  11. Great Thanks - They are 1 of the 3 that I've narrowed it down to. I am also considering Slimband and Credit Valley Clinic.

    Fitness Challenge

OK this is just my idea nothing to do with Slimband so do not hold them accountable... but I posted on the myslimband site and since it is locked down to slimband/TLBC patients it would be nice to host it on there because it will be our own small group that is manageable. Here were my thoughts so far... and I already posted this on myslimband.com I was thinking more along the lines of a thread that is ours, where we make our commitments for group and additional commitments as we go.. I was thinking something along the lines of choosing a theme for the month or a theme for the week. We could start with a focus on eating, working out anything we want as a group we would choose the theme of the week or month... So we would make the commitment to the group for the duration of the group, then another to the theme of the week or month. In addition there are dozens of free podcasts that we could suggest to each other a webcast or podcast or article to read that ties into our theme as an individual weigh in for the comments on the webcast, article or podcast. In addition we can add a weigh in for those who are in the weight loss phase and want that accountability added. We can also set up a chat room if that would help people there are several free rooms or if we are on msn or yahoo you can do a linked IM chat on there too. Thoughts comments etc?

    Almost there!

I would love to connect with you. I am getting my surgery on August 28th, at the Slimband Centre in Toronto
  14. I had my procedure done at Slimband in Toronto. One of their success stories on their website is a mother-daughter team. It might give some inspiration and confidence to you and your daughter. The website is www.slimband.com I have only had my band since July 28 so I don't have any experience yet, really. Take care and good luck to both of you!!

Sick and my band is too tight, agh!

Well I have just experienced bandster hell of another kind. I have been sick with a very sore throat and tired then my band tightened so much I was throwing up in my sleep. Horrible. I tried to just ride it out. I tried to eat softer foods and stop eating a couple of hours before bed. Oh, well, I feel better today. I had chills, aches and headache plus a sick, acidy stomach yesterday. The good news is that I have lost a couple more pounds. I am at 162 lbs this morning. I can't believe it. I am sooooo happy. I am aiming for size 12 or 150, not sure which. I'll see when it happens. I never thought I would ever get down to size 14 again and now it's getting loose. I have been buying new clothes and I am thinking about the shame of it when they don't fit and I will have hardly worn them. Oh well, I'll deal with it when it happens. I can actually buy size medium off the rack now and it fits. I am thrilled. Back to my band, I was thinking that my band must have slipped and I was going to call Slimband clinic this morning. My fill nurse, Nancy, told me that the band tightens when you are sick. I believe it. I feel better today and have had a piece of toast and a yogurt so I am fine. Thank goodness. So if I aim for 150 lbs, I have only 12 lbs left to lose. In 2 decades of dieting off and on, I never got to goal on any program before I started gaining again. Life is good!
  16. Hello would like some pen pals for support and to chat with or even start a coffee group. I was banded Oct 23/2015 at Slimband

    Lap Band Surgeons In Ontario

I am not sure if you looked at slimband or not I am a patient of Dr Yau's he has been my band surgeon for 10 years now and I have had complications and he has been there to help me through them all. He helped me find a band surgeon when I moved to the US to do my fills down here. I have been a Dr Yau patient longer than slimband has been around but I have been impressed with the clinic and what they have done from staffing with banded patients to hiring nurses, nutritionists, chefs etc to help their patients and a website with forums to help their patients discuss their issues. Good luck with your choices
  18. Hi I have narrowed my search down to Slimband, SWLC - DR. CHRISTOPHER S. COBOURN in Oakville and Credit Valley Clinic (maybe - This one is only on the list because the surgeons are out of Credit Valley Hospital which has a great reputation) I would like to hear from other people who have used any of these clinics and please give me your honest opinion of their services and also how are you doing now? Are you happy with the surgery result etc.? Any complications with the bands? After care? Anything you can tell me would be helpful. Thanks
  19. I just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself and tell my story. I am located just North of Toronto, Canada. I do not currently have a surgery date. I've been researching 'Slimband' for approximatly a year and have debated it the entire time. If it wasn't for the cost, I would have done it already. My best friend is scheduled for her surgery May 11th and I'm very excited to see how she does. I'm also the one accompaning her to the procedure so they are going to give me a tour and an opportunity to ask the surgeon questions. I have been overweight since I was a child. At 12 years old my doctor had my Mom take me to Weight Watchers. I lost 80lbs and then gained it all back again. I have done Weight Watchers atleast 5 times since then in between Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, diet pills, and god knows what else. I've never reached my goal weight but I generally have some loss and then put it all back on plus some. I'm tired of this yo yo game. I want to feel good about myself and to stop feeling like a failure. I want to be healthy and to be able to shop in a 'normal' store. My husband and I want to have kids in the next couple of years and I want to be able to play with my kids and have the energy to chase them around. I also want a healthy pregnancy and to raise my kids in a healthy way and not pass on my bad habits to them. My parents have a lot of health concerns and I want to do everything I can to prevent that for myself. My husband is nervous about the surgery. I keep trying to explain that it is not an invasive procedure and the benefits could far outweigh the negatives. I'm hoping my friend's surgery goes well so he can see that everything is okay. His other major concern is cost. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tell a spouse or loved one that the lapband can be an excellent tool that is worth the cost? Thanks!!!!

    Should I be concerned?

From the time I called Slimband to the time I had surgery was a total of three weeks. I never met a doctor until moments before surgery. In fact - I didn't meet anyone from Slimband at all until I arrived at their medical centre in Toronto an hour before my surgery! I did talk to one of their representatives over the phone, and had a medical questionaire to send them back (after which time, their nurse called to discuss everything). They also sent me a form to get blood tests and an EEG done, as well as instructions for their one-week pre-op diet. So - no psych evaluation, no face-to-face consults, no lengthy waits...it was a very simple process. That said - I'm self-pay (goodbye $16,000!) so maybe that's why it's slightly different. But hey - the surgery went well, and I feel like I'm on the road to a new me, so it's all good Good luck!
  21. I had a horrible experience going to see Dr Yau about a fill. Without going into details, he was shockingly cruel and rude. Other bandsters who are out in the cold since Slimband cut us off - where are you getting fills in the GTA, and what are they costing? Thanks

    Love this forum!

I'm going to Slimband in Toronto, so far the whole process with them has been good! All my follow up will be done in Alberta, that where I am
  23. Hi All, Does anyone know the date of when Slimband was established? day/month/year? Myself and several others have called Slimband and have yet to get an answer from them. Not sure what the big secret is about. If you know, could you please email me at 2014takeaction@gmail.com or respond to this post? Thanks, Kat
  24. Scheduled to have my band removed and going with a sleeve. Had my band placed by Slimband in 2011. Loved my band until it stopped working in 2018. I have had 5 fills, a scope, and a swallow showing nothing wrong but I have no restriction 🤷‍♀️. I have gained 25 lbs in a year and have become so depressed ugh! Looking forward to having surgery next month.
  25. i called CIBO and they seemed great but I ended up going with Slimband in Toronto with Dr Cyriak and Dr. Yau who were amazing. They also suture the band to prevent slippage.
