  4. Paula... you were banded at TLBC (Slimband) by Dr. Yau? When was your friend banded? Is she in the Toronto or surrounding area? I host several coffee groups... she can join us for coffee... feel free to give her my e-mail address - tomander@rogers.com Did I add you to my lapband e-mail list. I send out recipes and also reminders about our coffee groups... but you can just delete those. Let me know if you would like me to e-mail you a folder full of information I've collected. Tom

    Not quite here yet

Hi Doddie, I appreciate your responce and input. The more I read the better I understand that this is going to be a lot of work but well worth the while I believe. You are right, there will have to be a change in my eating habits but it is my hope that Slimband will indeed be the right tool for me. Thanks again. Vicki

I am going to do this!!

thanks for the response! I never thought of his "silence" as his way of letting me make the decision. Of course he is concerned about the whole thing, but he has also watched me do plan and after plan, lose the weight and put it back on. He knows how much of a struggle it is for me. I am working on the money aspect tomorrow and then I think hubby and I need to sit down and talk it out. I hope he follow your hubby's example and gets 100% behind me. I am going to need his support. But I also know that I am confident in my decision and ready to do this and do the work involved. It is such a journey already. It is always on my mind, and I always find myself coming here to read everyone's stories and get an idea of what lies ahead for me. I know most of you are from the US, but any Canada Slimbands or Alberta people out there, love to hear from you!
  7. after researching and reading the pros and cons, and going back and forth on my decision, I have decided I am going to do this! Get the Slimband (canada company) This week I am going to work out the money aspect and then I am moving forward with this decision, I am ready to do the work and I have faith that this is what has been missing over my 25 year battle with my weight!!! I love this forum and it has been my support as I make this decision, My hubby is being quiet on this one. not supportive or discouraging, Just quiet..... anyone else have this experience with their spouse??
  8. I was banded at TLBC in July of 2007. My band slipped in October of 2010 and was replaced more than 18 months later. The second band has not worked correctly from the beginning. There was scar tissue from the first band that was causing problems. I had repeated defills until my band was empty. It has now been completely empty for more than16 months. I still struggle to eat and have been given no explanation as to why. I contacted Slimband to ask about having the band removed. The said I would have to contact Dr. Yau at his private practice. I am not sure I want him to do the surgery so I asked if they could recommended someone else but they refused to do so. I contacted his office and was told that he wouldn't even see me without a referral from my own doctor. I really want nothing to do with him but am exploring my options. Has anyone had their band removed? Steve

    Anyone in Toronto?

I was banded just over two years ago. BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE! Sorry for shouting, but I am happy every day since getting my life back. I check in with these message boards regularly, just to keep on top of things. I find it helps keep me on track. Where are you getting banded? I was at TLBC (now Slimband) and have had a very positive experience.
  10. Alex R.

    Anyone in Toronto?

What is the message board like at SWLC? Does it follow a similar format to this forum? The slimband one is simply not very good. I think it could be much improved if they just made it function in a manner that is familiar to most users.
  11. I was banded at TLBC and I remember freaking out when they changed their name to Slimband. I was banded by Dr. Yau. I was told I am his patient and not slimbands so they will not support me even for pay. What are the TLBC lifer's who now have no support going to do? I am really worried and think I might have a slip. I am afraid to go to the doctor since if they defill the band I might never be able to get it filled again.
  12. Is there anyone interested in organizing a class action lawsuit against TLBC or Dr. Yau? They are not honouring the agreements any longer since they are now Slimband. I have read multiple posts about this but cant reach anyone to see how to co ordinate a group. Anyone interested???
  13. Ontario... I can work with that. The biggest clinic in Ontario is the Surgical Weight Loss Centre in Mississauga and it has a very good reputation. It's probably your best bet because of its size. LAP-BAND®® Surgery Clinic | Weight Loss & Gastric Balloon in Toronto, Canada I go to CIBO in Toronto. Overall I give it a meh. I am not terribly disappointed but I'm not stunningly thrilled. LAP-BAND® Surgery Weight Loss Surgery Clinic Toronto | CIBO There are two other clinics in Toronto. Nobody I know has gone to the Yorkville one downtown and I haven't heard anything good about Slimband. Laparoscopic Band Surgery – (Gastric Band – Slimband) Again though, if you're just looking for fills you may have different priorities.

    Swlc Or Slimband......

I just wanted to share my story, I'm sorry you feel that I'm promoting Slimband. I'm simply letting people know that Slimband worked for me, it has changed my life. If I can help anyone else out there who, like me, has struggled with weight all of their life, that is my goal. I wanted to be of help to anyone that had questions regarding Slimband.

    Swlc Or Slimband......

Bandjennafar, I'm glad you are happy with the clinic SLIMBAND. I had a friend who was banded by Dr. Yau and he has lost 120lbs! I did not find out until recently:). Continue to post, I didn't fill out my info until recently and I was posting blogs;) My pic is a photo of my pug;))) as for the original post, I choose SWLC and will be banded in November....

    Swlc Or Slimband......

I found this on those specific doctors/centers, definitely have a look. It sounds like SWLC is a much better and safer choice: http://www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/47736/Dr-Chris-Cobourn-Mississauga-ON.html Plus, it appears Dr. Cobourn uses the proven safe Lap-Band whereas I've never heard of Slimband.

    Dr. in Calgary

I had TLBC (now slimband) and know Dr. Yau is excellent. He is well respected. There is another clinic opened in Vancouver, the False Creek Clinic that is affiliated with the Winnipeg Clinic. Their nurse attends our support group at the Lions Gate Hospital every 3rd Wednesday. Everyone welcome (had to get that in).Its free. There is a Dr. Leung and a Dr. R. Woodhead who have are well received by their patients. I also had the need for a fluro and went down to Maryville just outside Seattle to the Northwest Fills and found the two nurses excellent. They now travel to Bellingham to do fills and/or fluros. Hope these suggestions will help.
  18. I am personally disappointed with the new website that TLBC has put together. I find it confusing and it lacks basic navigation instructions. Am I missing something - do others like this new site?
  19. Hey everyone! My name is Ellie and I've decided to get a lapband. I've been thinking about getting this procedure for over a year now. I don't exactly like the idea of surgery so I tried losing weight through various ways, but I was always left hungry. My mother has the lapband and she has so far had success with it. But here are my questions! I currently live in Ottawa, and I'm not sure where I should look to get my surgery done. My family lives in Toronto, so I have no issues with going to Toronto for fills/defills, but it would be nice to be able to get those done in Ottawa (in case of emergency). Also, Montreal is also a possibility since its much closer to Ottawa than Toronto. Also, as I'm a student (20 years old) and don't exactly have much/any money to my name, I'm wondering if its worth it to go a place that's 16,000 instead of 18,000? Or is there a vast difference between the two. (I'm under the impression that my insurance covers most of it, though) Currently, I'm trying to decide if I should go with SlimBand (they have a place in Ottawa that I can go for fills), SWLC, or even somewhere else! I met with my doctor today and she didn't have any recommendations for me as she hasn't dealt with lapbands with younger patients, so that's why I have some confusion. Any suggestions? Did anyone have an amazing or craptastic experience with any of these? Also, what steps did you have to go through for your insurance and how long did those steps take for you? Thanks in advance guys!

    pay for surgery

I have to pay out of pocket. Actually I'm using my mom's line of credit... that way you can technically pay up front (slimband sometimes has promos which help with the cost of travelling, but you have to pay up front) and then you can take your time paying it off. Lapband suggested looking at what your bank can do for you, I guess if you get financing through the clinic you might end up paying a higher interest rate. Kinda sucks that most provinces won't cover it... Good luck to you.

Slimband formerly TLBC Clinic Toronto On

Doddie, No problems... as I said to Mary different strokes for different folks... I loved yahoo for ages.. I understood it when I first came on LBT I hated it!!! Now I get it.. and it is ok... Slimband was easy for me I am an IT geek so it made more sense... just to my geeky mind. I am sure like LBT it gets easier with time. Heather
  23. Ok so now we have a Slimband fill and defill booking line at TLBC/Slimband? I called this morning to get an appointment for today or Monday morning for a fill and now you get transfered to a voicemail that I have to leave a message and someone will call me back to book an appointment? This place is just getting worse and worse! I find it so cold and unfriendly when I go there, I haven't heard anything good about their new "Supercharge programs" or whatever they are called. And the fact that I can't simply call and book an appt for a fill or defill is just another factor that is making things frustrating and disppointing! I need to really find Jill and get some positive reinforment! I feeling very off track right now!

Slimband formerly TLBC Clinic Toronto On

EMEP, The new website is modeled very similarly to this one... it seems to be a trend with posting boards that they are all going to a similar format to this one. As I posted to Doddie, if you look at how they are built they are built almost the same... this one you don't count the forum entry screen to access whatever forum you want for most people... so it seems like myslimband has more entries. But if you find Lapbandtalk easy you should find myslimband pretty easy to navigate too. I am not sure what you mean by more privileges? I have had good experiences with Slimband since before it was TLBC even but I have said that. I have been at goal for over 5 years now so I am not in for fills often but the staff members I have had to deal with for fills are awesome to me anyway (that is about once a year) and when my port was moved in Oct the staff was really good not just to me but in keeping my mom informed and making sure she had something to eat since she was waiting for me longer than we though and she has diabetes. So I will say my experience is limited since I am not filling and defilling all the time, but what experiences I have had have been good for the majority and I don't have more privileges than anyone else. Good luck on your journey, and I hope it is going well for you Heather
  25. As requested starting a new thread... feel free to post here the good the great, the not so great, problems, complications compliments etc. Again this thread is primarily for Slimband patients so if you are reading and not a Slimband clinic patient please do not get upset when we talk about our surgeon and clinic as our best choice and the best choice we see possible.
