So I'm somewhat consumed with the possibility of hair loss after banding. I already have some thinning and take Biotin 1000mcg each day along with other supplements. Due to the hair thinning, I have had a variety of lab test that have all been negative. My GP says that it's just hereditary and to keep taking Vitamins. I have had weight problems most of my life. I have been losing the same 25 to 30 lbs for the last 10 years. I have been trying to do some research while waiting on insurance approval for Lap-band® Surgery. I am 42, female with a BMI of 35 and I have high blood pressure. I would appreciate any recommendations. Also, does anyone know the percentage of those that have hair loss after banding? Thanks

Putting the Telogen Effluvium hair loss research I used in a thread for the interested. Started researching this after a visit to my dermatologist confirmed, biotin and minoxidil would not help much. I believe I started taking LLysine as soon as I was allowed to swallow pills post op. I experienced very very minimal hair loss (slight thinning of edges) My hair is back to normal now 1yr post op (Noteworthy info: I practiced low manipulation of my hair for months (ballerina bun), my iron ferritin and other vitamins and minerals were perfect during this time because I received iv infusions and oral supplementation, protein was around 45g daily when I started and worked up to 60g daily) I would suggest consulting your teams, doing your own research, spending the least, understanding that genetics and environmental factors will also play a role despite best efforts, and getting an amazing silk/satin scarf or pillow case to protect what you have. For those of you worried about hair loss, or you have thin hair right now

I have been hearing promising things about castor oil for hair regrowth and to prevent hair loss.If you look up castor oil for hair loss on you tube you will see alot of videos about the thickening and growth results of just using 100 percent cold pressed castor oil on the scalp 2 times a week.I ordered some cold pressed castor oil from a vitamin store on the web Im gonna start using it now and if it works I will continue to use it.It also is suppose to work for growing eye lashes longer and thicker..I will let you know the results as I go along. Here are the directions for use 1.Put your castor oil in an applicator bottle that you can get at a beauty supply store,(you can use half castor and half coconut or grapseed oil to dilute.Or just plain castor. 2.APPLY small amount to scalp in thin areas or areas you need growth and massage in with your fingertips. 3.Wrap with towel, turby twist,or plastic cap and sleep overnight and wash your hair as normal in the morning..Only do this 2 times a week because castor oil is very thick and sticky. 4.You also can leave on head about an hour then rinse but overnight gets better results. YOur suppose to see visible results in 6 weeks you should see new growth and thicker growth. 5.For eyeslashes apply castor oil to qtip and apply thin coat over eyelashes at root. they say you see results with your eyelashes in less than 3 weeks. I havent done this yet, but as soon as my oil comes in im gonna try I have heard really good reviews. They say middle eastern use castor oil on their scalp religiously and their hair is always so thick and beautiful. WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED>Hopefully I will grow enough hair so incase surgery causes loss Ill have some backup hair.LOL:thumbup1: -
