Hey everyone! My weeping wound has been an entire saga on its own. I tried everything. At night I'd let the liquid run for five hours till bedtime while "mopping" it up (ha ha, a good one.) Then I'd go to bed with a loose clean t-shirt and just let it absorb the Fluid. Then I tried applying pressure and keeping the wound covered with huge non-stick pads. Then I'd used Bandaids. Nothing stopped it. I even tried "expressing" or "milking" the liquid by massaging my belly to try to get all the liquid to one area. My big mistake was liquid-bandage, which only shriveled up the skin around the wound, but it still leaked. When I peeled the liquid-bandage off, my wound opened more. Today I have a panty liner taped to the inside of my shirt. Brilliant! Now my wound isn't coverd and is getting the air it needs. I have no red, allergic marks from Bandaids or tape, and my shirt is staying clean. The liquid gets dabbed-up by the pad, and everyone is happy. Everyone be very quiet.... the volcano is actually silent for the first time in a week! There's barely any liquid on the panty-liner... could it be, is it possible... am I healing? SHHHH... not to jinx it!

:w00t:Hi! I need a buddy/mentor. I have been reccommended to get lap band for about 8 months now, but was rejected on first send out by Cigna for "Improper" documentation on my 6 month doctor visits...so here we are and I just finished my 5th month and on August 22nd will have completed my 6th visit, August 25th I will go and schedule with the surgeon. I have lost about 5 lbs. in the 5 months that I have been going to see Dr. Guth at UTSW. My BMI is 37.4 and my weight is 238.5. I want to loose at least 100 lbs. I live in Lewisville and commute to Royal and 75. I am also training for a 5k...the Turkey Trot to be exact. My surgeon is Dr. Rivas at UTSW and I love their program. So I need some one to play the big brother/sister role...I feel like I'm on an emotional rollercoaster with this...and I would love the support.

Why, why, why, Delilah?
FitnFabfor2014 replied to AnnMarie1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had the surgery yet but, my doctor said the supplements will help. I take 5,000mg of the hair, skin and nails, one pill each day. It does take at least 2 months for you to see a difference. I have also heard fish oil pills work great! -

I feel your pain I'm loosing my hair in clumps myself, thank The Lord I had a full think hair, it's so much thinner now, I'm taking 12,500 gm of biotin and other supplement to help with hair loss also using some drops I got at the hair salon. My doc told me it should slow down or stop after three month. I'm praying that it does. Try consuming more protein too, that is also key to help slowdown the hair lose according to my doc. Good luck. And remember it will grow back. -

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
honk replied to Day's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi. Do you mind sharing which hospital you are using? I went through Lahey with Dr. Brams. I am 2 weeks and one day out; and things have been going really well. Due to another health issue it ended up taking me 8.5 months to have surgery. I am not a patient waiter. One thing to keep in mind is the more weight you loose up front; possibly the lower weight you will end up with at goal. I ended up loosing about 52 pounds from my first consult to surgery. Most doctors require you to loose weight before the surgery mine said 30 pounds. The way I look at it is that I have lost weight in the past (more than 100 pounds 3 times) but gained it back. This time I am going to loose it and keep it off. I actually started exercising (hour of cardio 7 days a week) and semi watching what I ate in November 2008 and am now down 94 pounds. One thing to consider is to find an exercise you feel comfortable doing. The more often you exercise the more it becomes a habit. I have knee problems so my Ortho told me to consider swimming. Due to Clorine allergies I always hated swimming. Well I got a snorkle (covers eyes and nose); and a Water proof MP3 player. Makes swimming so much nicer. Helps pass the time. Even with the individual TV's at the gym I would rather swim than do the cardio machines. If you can only do 15 minutes that's fine consider it 15 more minutes of exercise than you used to get. Exercise does'nt have to be epic it just needs to be something you can sustain. And I don't know if it's because I was so fat that I actually get a lot of support from people at the gym. I think they are astounded that I exercise every day. I even had someone stop me at a store one time and said they recognized me from the gym and wanted to congratulate me on my weight loss. -
does anyone regret having the surgery over losing weight on there own?

Any WLS isn't a diet - it's a tool to keep you full on a smaller amount of food We have all lost the weight at one time or another on a "diet" but after we lost it - we went back to eating "normal" and the weight came back on plus some - our normal is what got us fat in the 1st place "duh" it is really about making a lifetime lifestyle change in your eating and exercise - Our band's don't choose our foods - we do - and we can eat around them and not loose the weight.. It's all about eating healthy and exercising - I did 75% of the work by doing just that and the band did the other 25% by providing restriction That's why my signature says - eating healthy + exercise+ the band = success.. Good luck to you... -
This is a common problem - many of us have discussed this so you have lots of company! I think it just takes time for the brain to catch up - lots of time! I think that the extra skin can make us still feel obese (it does me!) I think that we all get mixed messages - people telling us we are too thin, the pop culture showing all the young, thin, and beautifully airbrushed - makes us feel huge by comparison. What I think is that if you find a weight that is healthy, feels good and you can maintain it - THAT is the right weight for you! I personally felt great in my size 12s. I pretty much buy size 8 pants now, but have fit into a 6 and depending on the maker (designer sizes run differently) I have a dress that is a 12 that fits! Size is about as arbitrary as the scale. I am just a smidge over a normal BMI, but having discussed that with doctors, understand why that is healthy weight for me so I am pretty good right here. Anyway, sounds to me like you too are at a good weight and maybe just need time to find that self acceptance.
-
I think our heads are just messed up. I wear between an 4/6-10/12 (depending on name brand. Sizes are crazy) and I still feel fat. It's not necessarily with my clothes on though. Mine is mostly when I'm naked. All the extra skin makes me feel like I have on an elephant suit. EVERYONE tells me I'm too thin now, but I'm not ready to stop. My BMI still says overweight by about #10. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Just for Fun ... Describe yourself to me!
serenity55 replied to serenity55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everybody! OK, here goes! Well, said she, stalling, I’d like to thank the academy--haha! Thank you all for answering. I smiled as I read your responses, and I think we’re all beautiful. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> Anyway, I’m African-American, though I usually refer to myself as black. I’m five-five, though I used to be taller--haha, and I weigh 331 pounds. I’m fifty-three, as you can see in the information thingie. I’m letting my hair grow, and according to my hairdresser it’s sable brown, which, again, according to him, is dark dark brown, almost black. My eyes are brown, but I have cataracts which cause them to have a whitish caste, I guess. A friend of a friend said once that I had “really unusual eyes.” She didn’t realize I was blind. My friend was mad, but I thought it was funny. I’m very open about my blindness, and independent and proud. Oh, my hair? I’m letting it grow, because I’ve always wanted it long. <o:p></o:p> Plain, you made me laugh when you said that in spite of your southern accent, you’re very smart. <o:p></o:p> My skin is, I am told flawless, and like a couple of you said, people are surprised when I tell them I’m fifty-three. I’ve also been told that my skin is the color of dark chocolate. I don’t feel like it, except when I am reminded that I can’t move as quickly as I’d like, because of this weight. I’m currently dealing with insurance, so everybody wish me luck! Oh, I’m also told I have a beautiful smile. <o:p></o:p> I’m a pianist, but, again, because of my weight, I haven’t tried really hard to get gigs lately, though I have done a couple of CD’s. Those are safer; no one sees anything but your picture and the artwork. <o:p></o:p> Anyway, thank you all for the warm feeling you’ve given me by your willingness to answer. I’ll try to put up a pic soon. <o:p></o:p> -
@viri87@Asmundson69 Congrats to both of you. Enjoy the new freedom that comes with being lighter. Pick up a 30pound weight and realize you had been carrying that 24/7. I hope you will slowly ramp up the exercise. Think about taking colder showers, and look into everything you can to make your skin as healthy and happy as possible. Look into yoga. That helped me sculpt the best bod I could get. Enjoy the process, realize as the fat goes away, a huge number of hormones dump into your blood stream, it might get a little freaky, but it will pass.

U are always going to be scared and have people that are throwing negativity toward the surgery. Life is too short for u to keep backing out. I backed out for 6 yrs because my family kept telling me to excersize and I can loose it on my own like it is that easy. U have to say screw it to the people that don't want u to have it if thats really what u want. I have to say this is the best decision I have ever made. I was on my way to diabetes and high cholesterol now both are completely gone and I am healthy and have no issues at all with taking vitamins if anything i get too much my surgeon told me to cut back. Everyone is different so do this for u.[emoji178] Sent from my LG-M150 using BariatricPal mobile app

So now that I can work out with weights, I need to know what is the best exercise for upper thighs ? My legs look like the skin is melting off and has tons of celulite on them? I dont care what I look like in a pair of short shorts this is the area just above my knee though. I've been reading that several reps of low weights at least 5 x a week is good? Any advice out there?

March 25th bandsters - check in
hopeinapril replied to michelle88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Michelle! I was down 8 pounds at 2 weeks. I haven't weighed myself since. (I plan to tomorrow). Good - I have lost some weight. I am eating much better. I am starting to exercise a little. I have only a few aches from time to time. My first fill is 5/7. Bad- I am suppose to still be on liquids. (mostly I am, but I eat some pureed and soft stuff) My appetite is coming back. I am terrified to eat much more than the liquids because I don't want to gain any weight. Actually, I feel pretty good. I only get an occasional pulling on my left side. I am pretty much back to my regular routine, except I still won't lift anything over 10 pounds. (I had a hernia repair and the last thing I want is another one!) The weight isn't coming off like it seems to on others, but I guess even if I loose 10 pounds a month, that is 120 pounds in one year! -
I have also noticed a little tenderness when I do Zumba. I found that if i put on a spandex sleeveless body shirt it helps. I picked it up from kohls for less the 15 bucks. Helps keep that extra skin in also. But I will tell you make sure you get the cotton blend one. The one that is all spandex is way to hot. Good luck and congrats on NSV.

Hitting 60 lb mark and hair falling out in HANDFULS!
SuperMom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fixing to hit my 60 lb loss mark! YEA! Don't get me wrong ...still not sorry I chose the sleeve. Feel better everyday (although I still get really tired sometimes). My husband has commented that I act years younger! My knees don't creak and joints all over my body feel MUCH better. I am getting my Protein, Vitamins, and Water in everyday. (and doc had me on B Complex Vitamin which contains Biotin since surgery) Just started end of last week.....HAIR falling out in CLUMPS! Thankfully I have alot of hair but STILL KINDA FREAKING ME OUT HERE! I know everyone posts that it will come back when weightloss evens out. 1. I have read that month 3 is when the hair usually starts (and yes this is month 3 for me) What month did you notice it start coming back? 2. Do you loose it to the point of bald? Do most people? I have no bald Patches yet but I mean to tell you I am scared to run my fingers through my hair as it comes back with a HANDFUL? Just trying to prepare myself....if I had not read it here I really would have freaked. This support group ROCKS!!!! Thanks for any info...... -
From Wikipedia: "An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG, abbreviated from the German Elektrokardiogramm) is a graphic produced by an electrocardiograph, which records the electrical activity of the heart over time. Its name is made of different parts: electro, because it is related to electrical activity, cardio, Greek for heart, gram, a Greek root meaning "to write". In the USA, the abbreviation "EKG" is often preferred over "ECG", while "ECG" is used universally in the UK and many other countries." It's an easy test, takes less than a few minutes - leads (small circular disks that stick to your skin) are placed on your chest, arms and legs, the electrode (a wire) attaches to it and connects to the electrocardiograph. You feel nothing other than the leads being placed - nothing more than a bandaid feeling. The test results print out right then and there, but your doctor will have to read it (usually an EKG technician or a nurse runs the test). The test is used to measure and diagnose abnormal rhythms of the heart. How long test results take really depends on your doctor and the hospital. If it were me, I'd wait until all test results are back and I had a surgery date before I'd book a flight and hotel. Where are you going for your surgery? And best of luck to you with everything!

you should not be expected to drop 20 lbs in a month. actually that is one of the differences between gastric bypass and the band. the band is supposed to be a slower rate of weight loss. now some do loose a lot and very fast but usually those people are weighing in the 300-400 lbs range. the more you weigh the faster you loose. now also you might not have much restriction until you get a few fills. i was able to eat like normal for almost 4 months after my surgery. now that i have had more fills and tighter restriction i am really starting to loose the weight. be patient and try not to care what everyone else thinks.

I dont know when you had your surgery but if you did recently thats not unsual to go days or even a week without a bm. doc told me thats normal. Also normal is bowels get a little loose and they will. now about the mirelax, its meant to work gradually. I took it as well and didnt really go to bathroom. doc says there was nothing for it to really push out. whats your diet like right now? are you on protein shakes? liquids? etc etc. I didnt have full bms until i was on regualr diet and eating 3 meals a day

I was at 1.8cc's and Dr. said I needed a fill. He put me to 2.0cc's On the way home three hour drive I was fine but had to pee every 15 min. That evening I had chicken broth and was fine but very tired. I work up and tried to eat Soup and PBed it back up almost instantly. I was really tired went back to bed woke up at noon tried Jello Pded. Back to bed dinner time tried soup pbed. Day 3 woke up didnt eat too scared now drank Water felt like it dat on my tummy for days... lunch time I tried soup again (mind you just cause I couldnt get dont mean I was STARVING by this time) That bite made me instantly puke and dry heave until I was crying. Hubby made me call Dr. as Im a real hard head.. went in next morning Dr completly unfilled me said I was very near in hosp. for dehydration my urine was "Brown" my lips and skin flakey and I had black eyes also I had lost 9 pounds in 3 days... So I went a month with no fill Next apt. Dr put me at 2.0cc water would not go down so he droped it to 1.8 ccs it felt okay to me so I left. I felt okay with 1.8ccs for about 2 weeks~ then the indejestion started and if I ate meaty things Pbed. This got worse but it wasnt the same as before so I did the normal Back to liquids let my tummy heal basic rules. I cut out anything that had spice because it gave me indejestion. By the begining of the 4th week after fill I was carryin' a bottle of liquid acid medication in my purse chewing tums and having indejestion from drinking water.... I did not want a repeat of last time so I called Dr. again Im in and again Im unfilled he said unfilled for 1 month but as the time fell we went on vacation to Mississippi so I didnt actually go in for a refill until 2 months after I was unfilled. So at this At he says he want so start me again at 1.8 too much no go..He drops it down to 1.5ccs and the water is sitting in my throat Im gurrgling and shaking my head no. He drops it down to 1.o and it sounded like drain O had been poured down my throat. This loud GURGLE GURGLE BLUP and he said there it is! So I went home w/ 1.0 ccs in my band and so far have been great (X fingers) He said it was strange how I was at 1.8 and fine but 2.0 closed me off and now w/out fill for 2 moths 1.5 closes me off so Im starting over basicly. whew thats a mouthfull and Im not checking for typos LOL
