I get to progress to regular diet next week and can have salad. I am so happy and really looking forward to it. I track my calories on myfitnesspal.com and adjust my daily intake accordingly to get my 650-800 calories daily. Kelly

Interesting data on protein and yoyo dieting

It's not the yoyo dieting, but the muscle loss from dieting and fat regain. The main article assumes someone is following that pattern of losing muscle and fat through extreme calorie restriction then regaining only fat. Of course, that is quite common. Overtime less muscle equals lower metabolism. But it's easily reversible by adding muscle through strength training.

I'm recovering from my surgery nicely. Still tired but not as sore. I've been eating pretty good but not losing. I've started keeping a food journal to see how many calories I am eating, I could be eating too much without realizing it. I still cant exercise, but hoping to when my 6 weeks recovery time is up. I will check with my doc at my follow up appt. From everything I've read, 6 weeks recovery time is needed after a hysterectomy. wt 170.7
  5. It's a known fact that there can be transfer addictions. Some people turn to alcohol, some turn to shopping. That doesn't mean it happens to everyone, but it's good to know its a risk. As far as obsessing over how much to eat, I'm not sure it's an addiction for all (could be for some, I suppose), but I think it's more about trying to get this right. There are rules we all need to live by with the sleeve, and in order to be successful, we have to change our ways. The sleeve will NOT change them for us. It takes a lot of energy and thought to do that, so it is a major topic of conversation, and you'll read here because this is where we come for support about changing our ways. I know that I will need to count calories and measure my food forever, or I will not keep the weight off. If it takes "obsession" for me to get there, I'm good with that. I hated being fat more than I knew, and I like being (almost) thin more than I ever dreamt possible. You might feel differently once you are post op. There are people here who say they don't want to ever be on a "diet" again, so they don't weight and measure, but I do believe they are mindful and purposeful in their eating habits. We are all unique, and have to find our own way. Not sure if that answers your question, but I wish you luck!

    Scared!

Tish - This is what I do to try and make my head (because its not my body...its all in my head) not feel as though I am depriving it (and maybe it will help you with eating too many carbs): Every 2 weeks, I give myself one treat. And its a good one, like my favorite ice cream or something. I don't go crazy with it (like I don't get 10 scoops with extra hot fudge plus an extra bowl of whipped cream on the side or something) but its enough to satisfy me and give me something to look forward to next time. Additionally, I work out 6-7 days a week for 30 minutes and I keep my calories at or under 1000 or so (calorie intake varies by person, but thats where mine is at). So if I spend an extra 500-600 calories splurging on ice cream once every 2 weeks, I don't feel too bad about it and I can work at least half of those calories, if not more, off at the gym. That works much better than eating carbs everyday. Also, however, during this time a lot of people gain weight. I really didn't eat very many carbs at all before my first fill, and during "bandster hell" but I know a lot of people eat mashed potatoes and such on the mushy phase and most doctor's think thats fine. So I wouldn't worry too much about it at this time. Good luck!

    The ACTI-TRAINER (like bodybugg)

I haven't used the food log yet... I have a really hard time loggin my food... I guess that's part of why I'm so heavy... I don't want to have to be accountable for what I put in my body. BUT that's MY issue, and I'm working on it. BUT I totally use the rest of the functions. I don't know if the bodybugg has one, but this one has a display on it that shows you how many steps you've takes so far, how many calories you've burned, how far you've walked, average heart rate, etc... So I'm constantly looking at it.. and when you plug it in to your computer it takes the info and puts it into a bar graph. So, I've been just trying to take at least ONE more step each day than the day before... So far it's been SO motivating.. Especially during workouts.
  8. I agree. What is your total Protein consumption? Total calories? How is your Water intake? It may be the carbs, but it may just be a normal slow down. I know I lost best when I kept my protein over 80g and my carbs under 50g.

    Calories with workouts

Ask your dietitian what you calorie intake should be for your body style (weight height and age) that helped me and work harder in the gym
  10. I've been banded for two weeks and was supposed to start on mush today. I was extremely busy at work and only had time for two Protein shakes. No way could I have eaten slowly and carefully. This evening I tried my first meal of tuna salad. Took about four very small bites and felt a slight fullness in my chest and stopped. Did I stop too soon? I know I haven't taken in nearly enough calories or protein today. I'm just so afraid of pain or PBing, I guess I'm being super-conservative. This band thing is so weird. It's like learning to live with a new and temperamental body part. Nancy

A little afraid to start eating

Hi Nancy I'm also 2 weeks out and started mush yesterday. I had the same feelings as you. I was really hungry and looking forward to some mush, but was afraid to eat too much. I also stopped eating with very little food - and felt OK. I'm also a little hesitant to add food since it will be some many more calories than I had the last 2 weeks. I don't want to stop the weight loss. But I also know I don't want to go into a starvation mode. I'm going to try a little more today. Good luck. Mary
  12. Hi there!!! It's good to hear about your journey! I also have problems with how my period affects my fill level, and currently have a call in to my dr. to get it l sorted out. Here's been the most helpful thing for me: 1. Solid Protein at EVERY meal. 2. Solid protein FIRST 3. No liquid calories Just stick to the basic rules and you should be good to go!

    The ACTI-TRAINER (like bodybugg)

I still want to know if you can read how many calories you have burned without hooking it into the computer.

    The ACTI-TRAINER (like bodybugg)

I am definitely going to get one of those. I exercise like crazy and have no clue how many calories I am burning. This sounds great.

Help...no weight loss in two months

What about fills? Are you in the green zone? Do you have any restriction? Are you counting calories? Are you getting smaller in inches? Maybe replacing fat with muscle? Weight before surgery and now?
  16. bearbandit

    sorry in advance

Remember with the reduced calories your eating there is really not much waste. Your body uses up all of the nutrients. I didn't have normal bm's untill about my third month. Even now its usually every other day. I took fiber supplement like benifiber which seemed to help. Ducolax was a good send during that time. Eat food high in fiber. By the way I listend to a conference call (this is my job as I run them) and they had world renowned experts talking about bm's. go figure there is specialist in this area. But they said there is a mis-conception that 'normal' is once a day. They said that is totally false. going once every 2-3 days is normal. If you go every day your eating a lot more than you should, hence the waste you have to get rid of everyday. Make sense to me...Actually was a disgusting but interesting conference call.
  17. I eat 800-900 calories a day, no excersize I feel guilty about that, drink lots water and take meds

10/14/09 - Teenagers, can we shoot them?

Drama, drama, drama......story of my life these days with two teenagers in the house. My 16 year old got grounded, so I took her phone away from her, well, she thinks she is smarter than me so she sneaks around and buys herself a "trackphone" or "pay as you go phone" so I wouldn't know about it. I'm not stupid, everytime in the past I have taken her phone, she beggs me for it back, does extra chores etc. This time, she didn't say a word, I could tell it didn't even bother her so I figured she snuck around and got her a phone. Last night I found it hidden under her pillow. SCORE 1 for me! Well, being the concerned mother, I find a lot of text to this one boy that we have forbid her to see, and let me tell you, IT WAS NOT PRETTY AT OUR HOUSE LAST NIGHT! I don't think my daughter will be leaving the house until she is about 20 years old now. I've pretty much grounded her for the rest of her teenage years. Needless to say, with all this drama, I didn't make it to the gym tonight which even made me more mad! Tonight we are having a meeting with our daughter and our Elders from church to finish up our little discussion, so I doubt I will make it tonight, but I might.....depends on how long it last and how emotionally drained I am afterwards. Kids are wonderful, but teenagers........can we shoot them? lol. How many calories per day?

you've got me beat.. I am about 2.5 months out and get 500-650 calories...35-60 carbs... I have lost 30#s since surgery. I'd up the calories but it doesn't seem possible. If I follow the rules, the food just doesn't have all that many calories and it just doesn't fit... Would need to add a meal or two or drink high calorie drinks to make it happen. But alas, I am following the rules. Don't drink your calories. and 3 meals a day.
  20. New Whey protein bullets(42g) have the 42g of protein and 175 calories. It is only 3 oz of fluid, so it is easy to get down. They can be bought at GNC.
  21. I had 2 fills and I have pretty good restriction now. I am definitely losing much slower. I just got some restriction in early december. I am very tight in the morning and I don't eat much these days. I would recommend going to thedailyplate.com and putting in everything you eat for at least a week. If you are at 600-700 calories per day it is probably too low. I find I eat more than I think I do though. Greg
  22. I was given permission to try wraps! Woo Hoo bread like substance! I bought Thomas' Whole wheat med. wrap. I knwo they can be very carby and high calorie. Does anyone have a "swear by" wrap brand or flavor? I have to calm down I had two wraps today!! Don't want to add extra calories with the wrap, but I am off the Protein supplements since I am eating well. (Maybe too well LOL) Tip- I went to Applebee's last nite and they don't have chicken/turkey burgers, BUT you can order a grilled chicken sandwich any way a burger is offered. So I had a Quesadilla Burger but w/ the grilled chicken in it.
  23. Are you exercising? You have to burn up more calories than you take in. No one really wants to exercise in the beginning but after awhile, it becomes second nature to you. The body will revert to a starvation mode if it thinks you are trying to with hold food. Add some more exercise and watch what you eat. Writing it all down in a journal is very helpful. Each night, take a look-see at it and you'll be surprised at what you have done all day. Good luck and keep us posted.
  24. I think the band is working for me cause if I eat to much it comes back up. sometimes if I just takea bite it comes back up. What is the word for the chest pain and food coming back up. Is that a true stuck feeling. When I'm on my period that happens all week. Does anyone else have that problem? This time I got smart and stuck to mushies like potato soup. Finally today I got to eat real food. Its so sad my four year old said mom be carefull you might puck agian. I guess I was doing that more than I thought. Today I had a egg and cheese stick for breakfast. I still am not seeing a one or two pound loss a week like some say we should. I am eating 1000-1200 calories a day plus using the treadmill 7 days week for three 30 minute sessions a. day.which burns 600 calories day. I feel the weight should be coming off. In about two weeks I can join a gym can't wait. What exercises seem to help some of you? What foods have you guys been eating.
  25. I almost find it harder to maintain than the actual losing. It is hard to get out of the losing mind frame. I keep thinking I need to see the scale going down. Its a constant battle to be ok with my weight and its ok to let myself enjoy food. I have not had any Fluid taken out, but I do continue to exercise and weight lift on a regular basis. If I want a bowl of ice cream, I'm going to have it. I eat like a regular person, I enjoy any type of food I want but in moderation. I go out and have drinks with friends. I'm not a calorie counter, but I use to be constantly worried about how many calories I was eating. Now I'm trying not to fret when I do eat too much of the high calorie items. I still consume a lot of Protein and try to eat as clean as I can (nothing processed). I have actually put on 5 pounds from my lowest, but have maintained this weight for a while and I'm happy with it. I started out at 330lbs and I now weigh 165lbs, which is a 165 pound loss.
