What lunch looks like- 6weeks 2 days post op

That's great. I wish you lived closer. I weight train, or have begun again I should say. Same reason, 6 month mark. Question.. I had a trainer tell me I should wait to get down to my ideal weight (and then do weight training) which I mean, kinda makes sense because if I am weight training while trying to lose weight, I won't see that big a diff on the scale bc of pounds going down from fat is refilled by pounds from muscle, which weighs more. I don't know the answer so I asked and that is what I got. Then another trainer at the Y where I work out said, for me to do lightest weights and more reps to burn fat, and do highest weights , less reps to bulk up, which would not be the option I'd choose, it would be option 1.. Your thoughts (and Im only asking cause you seem to know man healthy gym stuff" lol I am super proud of you.. Wonderful

    I messed up

Please don’t beat yourself up. It’s hard and I think it’s all mental more than anything. I’m 10 days post-op and in full liquids and at first found that I was wanting to eat certain foods but not because I was hungry but because I was used to it. I’m still trying to figure out what Hunger feels like Today I was making dinner for my family and making meatballs and they smelled delicious! I ended up taking a bite, chewed it really well, but right before swallowing, I thought about it and decided to spit it out. No one saw me but felt a little embarrassed bc I felt like those people that don’t eat and instead buy and eat all this food but don’t swallow and spit it out. It’s actually an eating disorder so I felt some kind of way about it. Wasn’t sure what bothered me most, that I was “cheating” on this full liquid phase before the dr clears me for puréed foods or that I enjoyed it so much and wanted more. Just gotta take it day by day!

    Late December Sleevers?

I have been doing chicken salad for about a week now - chicken breast broken up and pulsed in a mini food processor - makes it into really tiny pieces, almost like crumbs. Mix that with low-fat mayo, and then I scoop 1/3 of a cup max into a little dish and mix in one TBS of unflavored protein powder for the extra 7 g of protein. I have been tolerating that really well, I just use a little plastic fork and take very small amounts "chew" thoroughly (although by this point it is extremely creamy-ish), and take my time. It takes a good half hour to get through 1/3 of a cup, which drives my dog insane bc she gets a snack when I'm done with dinner, lol. I have found this to be very filling and satisfying, but am definitely on the lookout for a change! The one thing I tried that didn't work was a baked sweet potato with lite canola butter & protein powder mixed in (didn't try to eat skin of course) but even just the filling after two swallows I could tell it was complete rejection. It's the only time I've felt nauseous from eating so far. Might try chili this weekend though, thanks!

2 years out - what is your daily menu like?

20 months out from VSG. I eat pretty much low carb meat and veggies. But I do include some fruit and dairy. No refined sugar. Very little Stevia here and there. No processed food. Omelets with lots of veggies and some cheese, Salad w/chicken or fish. salmon, mussels or shrimp. Spinach, onions, green peppers, brussels sprouts, green beans, asparagus and sometimes some sweet potato. Cheese sticks, almond milk or Fairlife whole milk. Greek organic yogurt, cheese sticks. Still do shakes maybe a couple of times a week because Iike them. Sometimes berry and vanilla and sometimes chocolate coffee. Or even Fuzzy Navel (Syntrax). Grass fed beef burgers too. Some bean or lentil dishes. Nuts and roasted edamame and peanut butter. Fruit, frozen banana ice cream with dark chocolate. I really don't feel limited, there are so many good options.

Need advice from 1+ year plus

I had a very bad insulin problem: I went for my walk (as I always did) when i got home I decided that I needed to rake the leaves. I became so dizzy and weak I almost didn't make it in the house. I checked my blood sugar, it was 294. Before this (I was diabetic before I lost my weight) I was confused because my BS had been in the 120's. I drank a protein drink and headed to lie down. When I finally went to see my DR he looked at my ledger and seen what had happened. He told me that I had REACTIVE BLOOD SUGAR. My blood sugar had dropped so low that my Pancreas kicked out lots of insulin, that is why I had the super high BS. Strange but true. I hope you figure it all out. Good Luck
  6. I called dr this morn they said keep drinking.... not to worry about protein at this point bc I can't do shakes without wanting to puke.. I'm on my second water bottle and have to say I feel 85% more better now

    Late December Sleevers?

Vitamins make me sick too - especially multis. I use the patch for my multi and hope it is working. I can do sublingual for B-12, D3, & Biotin. And I do the caramel flavored chews for calcium bc it's like a mini treat
  8. A wave to you Diana!!!!! Ditto what she said!! I have kept my surgery a secret, only my niece (who had the surgery), my godchild, my hubby and now my 2 sisters. I was worried about telling them but since I was able to have my hernia surgery in Dec I wanted them to know. Turned out they were both very happy and have been my biggest cheerleaders. They also agree that I don't need to tell anyone else. So far I have lost 42lbs. 6 mo. It's been slow but the benefits are, skin has a chance to catch up and no one looks at me and says, oh wow you must have had wls!! ( with that very smug disgusting disapproval look) I just credit my loss to having been strict bc I needed the hernia surgery. Now that I have had the hernias repaired I am cleared to workout like a champ. I hope to knock off another 50lbs by July 2018, my 1 yr mark. If you are thick skinned and don't mind being scrutinized, then tell everyone, just be prepared for the "oh you took the easy way out comments along with the rest of the b.s. that comes along. One-day maybe I don't know, if someone makes a shitty remark, who knows what I might say. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Right now, this is for me, to get my life back and man I am loving it!!!!! Between the support here, my few family members and my Instagram buddies it's enough. I love sharing my little milestones and struggles with those who truly care and understand. Everyone else can go ....well you finish it....lol if you are like me it's the expletives!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 As the Lady Gaga song says, "so happy I could die" HW 274 SW 263 GW 125 GASTRIC SLEEVE 7/21/17. Clear Liquid Tips?

There is a flavored water brand called "hint". It has some really good flavors. If u dont find it in stores try on amazon. Crytal light is another good option, tho i dont like it bc the fake sugar. My favorite is herbal tea. There r so many flavors and all sugar free. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Late December Sleevers?

Even in the first few weeks? I mean, I lost 10 lbs pre-op on the liquid diet - thought I would have lost more w/it being such a shock to my system, but was happy enough w/5 lbs each of those two weeks. But then post-op I was down 6 lbs week 1, 3 lbs week 2, and 1.5 lbs week 3. I weigh in this Weds for week 4. So far that's only 10.5 lbs for 3 weeks, plus whatever I've lost/am losing between wks 3-4. Say I (optimistically) lose 3.5 lbs by Weds. That would be 14 lbs in the first 4 weeks. Isn't that low? I know everyone loses at a different rate, but still, it Feels pretty low... I had my surgery in MX so I don't go to an office for weigh-ins but rather do them at home and log them on the surgeon's website where it's graphed out from Day One and they can follow my progress. I can call or email the nutritionist, but I haven't yet. Waiting to see what happens on Weds. Also that's when I'm supposed to move to soft foods, but am now wary to do so bc I'm afraid it will slow rate of loss even more. But ugh am I sick of the protein shakes. I have the unflavored protein powder from BariatricPal store and I have been adding that to everything I eat - which doesn't seem like a lot, at least to me. My average is 700/750 cals per day. I feel hungry pretty often and have cravings for tons of stuff, but have been able to reign it in so far. At least I get full on a small amount - that was the long-lasting effect I was going for, I was just hoping for less hunger the first month or so, and More Weight Loss the first month ("the weight just falls off!") - I swear I read that a thousand times waiting to have my surgery. So I am grateful for feeling full/satisfied on much less. I have begun adding exercise this week, hoping that would ignite a change. Keep wondering if I need to lower my calorie intake or increase it? Or stay the same and wait it out...bash my head against the wall...etc.

What to Bring to the Hospital

I’m 6 days post-op and I can tell you that the essentials for me were my robe (I got to put it on as soon as I went to my room for recovery and it was a life saver. Felt like I wasn’t flashing anyone and felt warm bc my room was a little cold), chapstick, toothbrush and definitely mouthwash!!! I wasn’t allowed to drink anything so getting to brush my teeth and using mouthwash was a lifesaver.
  13. Hi everyone. Have been taking forever to choose an unflavored protein powder since I feel this will give me the best chance to get my protein in. After much searching and getting a little overwhelmed, I gave in and purchased genepro on amazon. Mainly bought it bc of the amount of protein you get per scoop and a lot of comments saying it doesn’t alter the taste of food and can pretty much add it to everything. Should have posted before to ask everyone here. Has anyone heard of it or used it? Do you have anything positive or negative to say about it? I welcome all feedback! Should be arriving in the mail today so potentially have a chance to return it if needed! Lol. Thanks everyone!!
  14. I,was sleeved on 7-21-2017 and I have no regrets wha t so ever! My weightg loss is slow but none the less I am very happy. I have lost 42 LB and many inches. I have went from a size 24 to an 18. But the biggest thing that I am most grateful for is that I was able to have the hernia surgery that I have waited 6 years for. Due to four abdominal surgeries I had 3 large hernias that really hindered my ability in everything I did. But no more!!! I had my hernia surgery on 12-19-2017 and it has made a huge difference in how I walk, my ability to dance again and just the overall happiness of looking down and seeing my stomach flat again!!! Before surgery for the last 4 yrs, I did not eat, pasta, bread, soda or fast food, so I do not miss that. I drink water and coffee only. I try to get at least 60gr of protein, I eat a protein bar and shake everyday. But I just don't eat very much and I am very happy with that. Food was never my friend, I had guilt every time I ate and now that is gone. I pretty much eat when I am hungry and I eat what I want. Sometimes it just a few bites and I am done. I do not eat sweets at all, when I feel I want something sweet I have a sugar free cookie and that's it. My guilty pleasure is a few spicy nacho Doritos, lol. Even then it's only 5 or 6, not the whole bag. I look forward to dancing!! I walk a lot , have lots if energy and keep thinking it can only get better. If you look for me on Instagram you can see my journey. And I did tell my sister's who were very supportive! I told them in October bc I knew my hernia surgery was coming up. They have been my biggest cheerleaders besides my hubby. I am very happy and thankful everyday. HW 274 SW 263 GW 125 GASTRIC SLEEVE 7/21/17. Height 5'1" instagram: K_aane_VSG

  16. Anyone else have the infection in the stomach after having the egd done? I'm bummbed bc it's going to take longer to get my surgery date.
  17. Hello everyone, I am moving along the process of my gastric bypass fairly well, no surgery date yet, but 2 months left of the classes and all I's will be dotted. I'm actually writing this for my wife. My wife is going along the process with me, but she is about a month behind me. She has many issues, and we're trying to figure out the best surgery for her. In order to keep this post as short as possible, I will briefly summarize here: Early forties Beginning stages of abnormal menstration (irregular/delayed menses) Migraines, sometimes occular. She has tried Topamax, but it caused significant (permanent) hair loss (Has been off it a year). It helped, but made her nauseous when she took it and became somewhat forgetful. The Triptains sometimes help, but sometimes are worse. The only thing that helps more than half the time is excedrin migraine, which has an NSAID in it. She had them in 20's onwards, sometimes birth control helped, sometimes not. They seem to have gotten worse after the birth of our child. She no longer takes BC because it is not needed (I got a vasectomy). She also has GERD quite bad. Docs put her on protonix, but we are very concerned about the anticholinergic effects of PPIs (Alzheimers and Dementia) and so she grins and bears it using zantac (Still anticholinergic, but a lower amount) and tums. We have yet to try Pepcid AC, which is not anticholinergic. She has very bad knee and hip pain, and has restless leg syndrome She has a sweet tooth (Pastries being the worst). She is not a diabetic, but her fasting blood levels are over 100, so she is technically prediabetic. Her father has diabetes. She is a bit worried that after bypass, she will no longer be able to eat sweet foods at all. While it is certainly not a good idea (After all they got us here), for legitimately rare circumstances (Holidays and birthdays) can sugar-free items be consumed (ice cream/cake/pastries)? She has a slow metabolism, but didn't like how ill she felt on synthroid, so she stopped taking it. I think she has high testosterone and low estrogen, but I could be wrong, I can't remember the test results. She also has motion sickness pretty bad. I don't know if that is connected to the migraines, or if others that had it noticed it went away or got worse after WLS? According to the surgeon, the bypass is the best cure for GERD in the world, because it is impossible to get it with no stomach acid. But, NSAIDS are a no-no. The Sleeve (I've read) allows for NSAIDS, but sometimes makes GERD even worse. Plue the Sleeve doesn't have a negative reinforcement of high carbs like the bypass does. In the information seminar, they mentioned that WLS sometimes reduces or cures migraines, so maybe that is a moot issue? Between the two, I think the migraines are the more severe. She gets them several times a month, at least once to twice a week, and they are worse before/during/after menses. She has not tried botox injections (Botulism is not something we want to inject into our bodies), and she has not tried antidepressants or acupuncture. Antidepressants because of the weight gain, and the anticholinergic effects many of them have. (I take Luvox and Lamictal, but they are both very low). I'm sure that others here have had similar NSAID/GERD & Bypass/Sleeve decisions, and I'm curious which direction you're going (or did go), why, and if you like or regret your decision. Diabetes runs rampant in my family, and because of that, I want the bypass, and I think that is the best way for her as well (Get rid of the GERD and the Pre-Diabetes, and likely lose the most weight helping the sore knees/hips), but I want to cry (And I'm a guy) when I see her constantly suffering with the migraines. My wife and I thank you very much for any advice you have. God bless you all!
  18. Remember your fat is releasing hormones and other crap as you lose your weight. Your body was happy the way you were prior to surgery and now its*******, You expect ME to work better? And you're probably stiff and achy, I remember back in the bad old days when I came home from open gallbladder surgery with a healing abdominal wound, instead of a right subcostal which was just under the ribs I had a right paramedian,, running from 2 inchs above to 4 inches below my navel. Hubby was working 12 hour shifts 40 miles away, I had a 10 year daughter, a preschooler and a toddler for help. Think I didn't regret having surgery right then? And every time I'd try to take a nap somebody wanted fed. Drug myself to the kitchen with my pillow pal and did the best i could. But 2nd guessing, oh yeah. It will be worth it, you're seeing all the knots and loose threads in your tapestry of life, once you feel better and flip, the fabric you'll see it for the good thing it is.!!. I'm gonna have a RyN in about 6 weeks, expect to face the same or similar problems. So in March remind me of what I said today cause I'm sure I'll need a reminder. In the meantime be good to yourself and heal. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Had gastric bypass Wednesday morning. I came home today (Friday) from hospital. I'm second guessing my choice now and have been in tears. I am still having so much pain and Tylenol isn't touching it. I'm miserable from pain and no sleep. I can't eat bc broth is about the only thing allowed and it just makes me nauseas to put down. I'm scared to eat in the upcoming weeks bc I don't want to throw up. I know it sounds stupid but this whole thing quickly turned into a nightmare for me. Anyone else had similar thoughts?

  21. Try not to be so hard on yourself. We are going from one extreme lifestyle (for me, massive over eating and using food for all sorts of reasons) to the sleeved lifestyle, which is extremely opposite. We are all figuring it out at our own pace. You’re aware of how and what needs to be done so take baby steps. I find if I take baby steps, I am more successful-change one small thing at a time. I always failed before the surgery bc I would try to do too much and then when I fell short of what I was wanting to do, I’d feel like a failure and then go do the total opposite. You’re doing great! Surgery on 12/28

I went back to work today. It was ok for the most part. I had to run out of my classroom this afternoon bc I threw up my afternoon snack. Thankfully, my 4th graders are understanding. Bless em!
  23. Hi everyone. I’m now 3 days post-op and on full liquid. Been doing ok with trying to drink water but it seems that the popsicles are the only thing that doesn’t hurt me or I get the gas pain when I eat them. Have already had 3 today and it’s only 4pm. Freaking out a little bc I’m sure it’s not healthy to just have water and popsicles and also slightly scare that I’ve had so many. Anyone else have this issue?? They are yummy [emoji39]

Did You See the Penny Saeger Episode on My 600Lb Life?

I just watched this clip. And i used to coupon and i stopped bc there r rarely ever coupons for healthy food. The occasional salad bag coupon or yogurt. But other than that...its frozen meals n chicken nuggets. As i started to get into a healthier life style i left couponing behind. If i see a good coupon occasionally for healthy options ill use it but other than that ..nope.
