whole foods and post op diet?

I'm doing so much better post-op. I don't ever think I'll get to the point where I have time to make my own yogurt, but I have made leaps and bounds towards a much cleaner diet. I'll be thrilled to get to the point to eat more raw vegetables - I miss them! #progressnotperfection
  2. I started my Pre-Op diet today a low carb/high protein diet and it is going really well. i have been drinking Isopure protein drinks and watching what i put in my mouth. i felt a little tired all day which i think is a side effect of not eating all the carbs i am used to and had a mild headache, is that normal?? had a wonderful steak dinner and will have some yogurt as a snack.. I think i can actually do this whoo hooo...

    Why sugar free?

I prefer to use products that do not contain artificial sweeteners. That means, eating the 'real' thing, suger, when necessary. For example, with my 1 and only coffee in the morning. Also, when drinking my Dandilion Leaf tea, I now drink it without suger/sweetner, it's just better for me. For yogurt, I prefer to eat the ones with sugar, not fake stuff...who know's (down the road) what effects Sorbitol, Aspertame ect is going to have on our bodies? I just limit my intake of foods with sugar, refined sugar. A little in moderation is fine....

    Is this Normal

Sounds like you have pretty good restriction already! That's great! Or your stomach can be a bit swollen from the fill. Maybe try liquids, yogurt or pudding for a day and then try again. Eggs should be a food that go down fairly well. Try to wait a minute or two between bites and see if that helps. Sometimes it's not just small bites and chewing well but giving your stomach a little time for it to register. I doubt if 1 egg was too much, you should be fine with that.
  5. I am going to do drinkable yogurt tomorrow. I am going to work a half a day tomorrow to see how it goes.I am feeling pretty good. Are you feeling hunger yet? I am still taking the Inhibitron capsules he prescribed for acidity every day. How long did you take the nausea medicine Pemix? I am still taking it but nausea hasn't been a problem for me at all after day 1.
  6. With my anti-gall stone pill and Nexium pill I eat 2 bites of cottage cheese. Per surgeon I need to take with dairy. Breakfast is Protein shake Morning snack: eggs with canned ham, Rotel (canned diced tomatoes/green chilis), tiny bit of cheese. (I made a batch and portioned out a few days worth) Lunch: Deli ham, 1 slice provolone Afternoon snack: Ground beef with Rotel and taco seasoning Dinner: probably left over Rotisserie chicken and broccoli Earlier in the week DH and I went to Outback. I had the Ahi-Tuna appetizer and mixed veggies (broccoli, snow peas, carrots.) I stole 2 of his croutons and nibbled on them. During a snow day this week I had an Avocado baked with an egg in it. Didn't care for the taste. But it went down fine. Last Friday I made Shrimp Alfredo with Linguine. I use low-carb Pasta. I had a few shrimp, 3 noodles and some broccoli. I like egg salad or chicken salad. I mix the salad using Hellman's light mayo and fat free yogurt to keep the fat grams down. I add a tiny bit of Gulden's mustard to the egg salad. I just cannot stand fat free mayo. I also only like Hellman's. I have had chicken breast but it has to be pretty moist or it is tough to get down. Rotisserie tends to be good for that. It is harder to not get grilled breast to be too "dry". I have had crackers a few times over the last week. At most I will have 2 club crackers at a time with either the deli meat or the egg salad/chicken salad. I had salmon a few weeks ago. I have some tilapia in the freezer that I will eat some of this weekend. I had some fresh fruit this past week- strawberries, blue berries, orange wedge. I avoided the apple as it had peels on and was finely diced so no way to avoid the peels. I have not ventured into trying lettuce or raw veggies yet.
  7. Hi Everyone Since my fill 2 weeks ago,3cc, I've felt very resticted. Food that worked for me before isn't working now. Soups, white cheese, yogurt, puddings, some kinds of chicken and smoothies have been great. I feel I need more variety in my diet. I unforfuntately have been learning the hard way what works and what doesn't. Any suggstions? Thank god for the person who posted the info on peanut butter. Love Margret
  8. Hi all please share when I went back to work how u packed your liquid meals. As well as what liquid food are good. I can't eat the Greek yogurt or the caned soups or jello I am Russian So I am so not use to caned food and i don't know how to make healthy home made foods. So day two I am forcing my self to eat the liste things. Please help
  9. I ate a lot of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt during that phase. I also picked up a tiny bit of fish from the Whole Foods hot bar to try.
  10. I had a hard time tolerating most shakes. What seemed to taste fine to me before surgery, was too sweet and rich after. Most of them gagged me. I wasted a lot of money. I finally found one I can drink. It is the "body by vi" protein drink. It is a high quality, easy to digest protein with lots of nutrition. The powder is 90 calories for 2 scoops with 30 grams of protein. It taste good by itself, but you can add frozen fruit, yogurt, etc. if you like. I personally like it without any additives. You can buy it from a rep if you know one but can also find it on amazon.

I have no trouble drinking soup, yogurt a container and even a Protein shake. After I'm content but not full and feel like I could eat again. Any suggestions Has anyone tried applesauce? Did that make you dump? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Typical day on Preop diet???

I am getting banded next thurs too! I am allowed to eat cream of wheat, yogurt, milk, juice and sf carnation inst bfast for breakfast. Lunch is soup, milk, juice, sf pudding. Dinner is the same. I have snacks of either milk or yogurt in between. After dinner I have a protein shake or carnation inst bfast. I have to be on pre op diet for 2 wks. Thats nice you get to start yours later. I have been doing ok on it, been tired and muscles ache. It gets old, but its better than drinking shakes all day. Good luck! Hopefully you will find out what your diet consists of soon. I have lost about 7 lbs since on pre op diet in 1 wk. You lose weight, but can be exhausted.
  14. I don’t remember what liquids vs full liquid were; basically I could have water and protein shakes until I went for my follow up 8 days after. Then I think it was yogurt, cottage cheese etc

Sore Around Lap Band Port Site

Thanks for all of the information. I am so glad that I found this website to answer some questions I have as I go through this. To answer your question cutecamille, I am on the full diet right now. So I've been drinking protein shakes and eating creamy soups, yogurt, pudding, jello, juices and clear liquids. I'm finding myself getting hungrier now though. Good luck everyone

    Banded 3 days ago

Hi EM1125: Sorry about taking so long to reply - I have had computer problems. I have been on the mushie stage for about 3 weeks now. I have eaten mashed potatoes, cauliflower and well cooked carrots (that I mash with my fork), summer squash, zuccini, fish, Soups (blenderized), oatmeal, and yogurt. I haven't had any problems with these foods. In the morning, I ususally have a Protein shake. I am going on vacation also in early August. I have decided to wait and have my first fill after vacation. I hope everything goes well for you. Let me know.

    Sliders

It's not vomiting as you know it pre-banding. It's more of a baby-spitup type deal. You have something inside that doesn't agree with your band, you get rid of it, you feel good again. I've been banded 19 months, only had to PB once in a restaurant and that was due to a rather stressful situation (had picked up my dd from the ER in a another city after she totaled her car.. major stress). I had plenty of warning, it was no big deal. In fact, it was almost a year before I had my first pb episode at all.. everyone varies so much in their reactions to the band and how they eat afterwards. Sliders are foods that are soft and slip past the band and don't contribute to satiety. Things like Ice Cream and Yogurt are obvious sliders. Less obvious ones are Popcorn and salads (sometimes). What is a slider for one person might not be for another person. Grilled chicken for me is a very hard food to eat. It's often dry and will get stuck and cause a pb episode quicker than other foods. I usually get grilled or baked fish, but then again I'm a seafood lover. Keep asking questions.. we all learn that way.

I had the RNY on 12-01-15

@@Lisee45 You're doing great! I had my RNY on Dec 1, too. I lost some in the pre-surgery diet and all in all, i'm down 24 pounds. It's like a pound a day for me now, too. I lost more in the beginning, which makes sense. But I have a lot more to lose than you do, too.And like I said, that includes ten days pre-surgery, all the way to today. I'm still on full liquids (creamed Soups, yogurt etc) but move to pureed on Dec 23 and can start having even more choices. It's so exciting, like "Christmas!" hahahahaha... I also have had no problems with eating or drinking, so far. Good luck!

    Weight loss

Hi! Welcome. Congrats on your loss. That's a great start for 5 weeks out. But it sounds like you are not eating enough. I use the app my fitness pal to help me count my calories and track my food. I set myself on 750 calories a day with at least 60-75 grams of Protein per day. I use a small portion of fresh fruit of I'm making a shake to make it taste better or o use Premier Protein shakes , these are 30 g of protein and pre-made. I eat cottage cheese or Greek yogurt 100 calories, the tuna packets that are drained and come flavored, ground turkey,.... I just stay away from carbs. Occasionally I will have a small sweet potato with spray butter. Sometimes I feel like I don't have a lot of options but then I pull up Pinterest and see all these great recipes and foods I can make. Good luck! ????

Anyone else 3 weeks out ?

18 pounds lost since surgery (I need to get serious about walking). Eating mostly my shakes along with greek yogurt, egg whites, cottage cheese. What about you?
  21. I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and down 12 pounds. I am eating protein shakes, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, applesauce ... I get to start eating real food this Wednesday after I see my nutritionist. My new stomach/sleeve feels fine, tolerating everything so far. I am still having pain in the abdominal muscles, though, which is frustrating. It is the central two incisions and only hurts if I bend at the waist. I haven't taken any pain medication since 5 days after surgery. I am looking forward to the muscles healing and being able to be more active without worrying about hurting myself.
  22. I have been able to get all my protein from food since maybe 4-5 week (Started solids by day 4 as per my program) We were told that each meal has to be 1 protein portion and on portion is 10g of protein. If you eat 6 times a day, you'll get 60g. I'm 6 months out, I now eat 20g pr meal, 4-5 times a day. The key is meal prep. Figure out how to get 10g of protein into a meal. We were told that 1 egg is considered roughly 10 g. I have found a high protein yogurt that will give me 11g pr 100g. You have fish, chicken, who are fairly light to digest compared to red meat. I make creme cheese sauce with my chicken so it's not so dry, chew chew chew, and it goes down. It is possible is you put some time and effort behind it. Also, track your protein, that is my biggest suggestion.

    Best food for grazing !

I usually don't have time for breakfast and I don't get a lunch break, so I basically graze all day until my first meal in the evening. My go to's are mixed nuts with craisins (sorry Bufflehead, but I eat tons of nuts), beef and turkey Jerky (very filling), Protein smoothies, protein bars, raw veggies with cheese dip (Asiago artichoke is my favorite), popcorn, apples with Peanut Butter (I used PB2 until I reached goal), Plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein Powder, and cheese and bagel crips. If I'm feeling like a snack but I know I'm not really hungry, I make myself drink at least 16oz of Water first. By then I'm usually over the snack cravings.

    Hungry hungry

Hello I understand. I'm a week post-op today sleeve surgery. If your doctor allowed pureed vegetables, cream Soups, grits creamy add a little chicken bouillon crumbles for flavoring or shrimp bouillon crumbles for flavoring. Dannon OikosTriple Zero vanilla Yogurt 15 grams of Protein zero added sugar 0 artificial sweeteners zero fat. Not a fan of artificial sweeteners but if I have to go with one Stevia is the best one on the market. sugar-free Jell-O and pudding have aspartame and all that stuff so much chemicals and crap that I've seen documentaries on so I try to do it with stevia only and that's hard too. I also drink tea, Orgain clean Protein Shakes their really good there 20 grams of protein. Protein help my Hunger.
