I’m down 110 lbs and feeling pretty good. Starting to notice some sagging skin in some areas 👎 and not sure what to do about that. I’m down to my initial goal weight and not sure what is next in terms of goals. I definitely gotten my appetite back over the past few months and feeling a bit nervous about that, but so far have been able to stay on track. Congrats to everyone for their amazing work!!!

So good. So, so good. Thank you for posting this, seriously. It's insane that people have a perception that BMI20 is 'ideal'. Says who?! I'm BMI 26.8 this morning and I can count every. single. rib in my body if I stretch - DESPITE having excess skin preventing my skin from really getting 'stretched' over my torso in that movement - by no means am I 'overweight'.

Food Before and After Photos
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’ve always made them from scratch. But I never made whipped style only, rustic smashed potatoes. When I’m in a hurry for them to cook I will peel and dice the potatoes . If I can spare the time I only peel them. Lazy days I go prep free andI cook then skin on and peel once cooled. I once had box potatoes and could immediately taste something off (I now believe was powdered milk) and I did not like the flavor. -
I just stumbled on your post and wanted to recommend the best breakfast I make - Slow Cooker Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal There are a few more ingredients than most other oatmeals mentioned here but holy cow it's delicious! And the nutritional stats are really good too. You will need the following: 2 apples, cut in approx. 1/2 inch chunks (with or without skin, I prefer without) 1.5 cups of milk (regular or almond/soy - I use vanilla almond milk) 1.5 cups of water 1/2 tbsp of butter or margarine (I use Country Crock) - if butter sticks, cut them into a bunch of cubes 2 tsp brown sugar 1 tbsp ground flaxseed 1 cup steel cut oats 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt Mix everything into your slow cooker, cook on Low for about 7 hours. That should give it a nice crisp around the edges. Depending on your slow cooker it could end up getting burnt edges which aren't fun. If you want to avoid that use the double boiler method of slow cooking and add an hour or more to the time. Either way, make sure you coat the inside of the pot VERY WELL with cooking spray. Let it cook overnight and in the morning it will smell AMAZING in your kitchen and taste delicious. Put any leftovers in the fridge - to reheat put some milk in and microwave for a minute or so. I calculated that I made about 48 ounces of food, which was 8 servings of 6 oz. each. Here are the nutritional stats per serving (of course you can modify this up or down depending on your serving size, and your own ingredients): 159 calories, 29.4 carbs, 3.4 fat, 3.8 protein You can also add optional toppings after it's cooked such as walnuts, raisins, syrup, etc., that's up to you. Enjoy!

I had a lower BMI I was told by many people “ your not fat enough to have WLS@ well I fought my weight for years now I’m at my lowest since I was 24 years old! The weight loss surgery is very successful with people with lower BMI (VSG) best choice I ever made I’ve lost 46 lbs. since my surgery 12/14/21 wish I did it a long time ago! I love not eating much it’s great! I felt same way wondered if I’d loose to much pre op I did put some on wish I’d not thought that way I’d be lower now then I am! It was a mental struggle for a few weeks follow surgeon and don’t follow your own plan there the pro’s ! I finely feel I will be done with my weight for life!

Yeah, I look like I gave birth to quintuplets a few months back, too. But I guess I'm lucky; I can kinda tuck it in the waistband of my boxer briefs and the rest seems to be holding off looking weird for now. There's just no way around excess skin. I took collagen daily for the entire journey down to here (in the form of sugar-free, high-protein collagen gummy bears, yum!) and the gym helps with the arms and chest, but when I lie down on my side, I basically have a buttcrack from my butt to my upper back lol. Getting it fixed next year once I see where I 'land', weight-wise - I suspect I'm a little under what my long-term maintenance weight will be right now.

I have lost 107 lbs so far and I have to say that the extra skin is not a badge of honor for me. It is pinched every time I sit, the skin tears with the slightest of pressure, has uncomfortable skin fold rashes and infections, my batwings make it hard to put on a shirt, and constantly pinch, tear or push up my shirt sleeves to my armpits so can’t wear short sleeves anymore. It’s a real medical condition all on it’s own.
-
I haven’t gotten it so far but I’ve heard people say it’s a badge of honor and to wear with pride. It’s the physical proof of your journey. I understand that may not help being that the largest majority of people don’t want excess skin

Anyone have LapBand to DS revision?
NovaLuna replied to CandiceRW's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I didn't have a revision, but when I was doing the research on my surgery I ran across a few peoples posts about how they revised to the DS and their weight loss. I remember one lady was in the 350's prior to her original surgery (gastric bypass) and got down to the 190's but then gained all her weight back and so had a revision to the DS and went from the 350's down to the 180's (she got to 170's after skin removal). I was actually considering the gastric bypass surgery at the time and I just kept thinking 'what if it fails' I didn't want to go through another surgery so I chose the Loop DS as my main surgery and it's worked great for me so far. I figure by the revision comments that I had stumbled on in my research before my surgery choice that your weight loss will probably be about the same, maybe slightly less than it would be with a fresh surgery but you'll probably still likely lose 70+% of excess weight. Just might be a tiny bit slower than a first time surgery. -
You may have issues getting insurance to pay for things like a tummy tuck or skin removal on your arms and legs unless it's causing serious medical issues but you'd probably have more success having them pay for a panniculectomy. That's what I've discovered as I'm going through the process now.

After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???
Johnny2Thumbs replied to Jersey Girl in Tampa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm almost 3 years out and haven't thrown up once in all that time, including right after surgery. I had the foamies twice because I ate a little too fast but walking around helps and if it's protein, then papaya enzyme may help too. Keep in mind that most people tend to post horror stories rather than success stories so it's easy to get psyched out. I had the same fears you are going through now but it was the best decision I've ever made. I'm now in the process of getting excess skin removed. Don't let others psyche you out.... -
Went to the support group, now cold feet?
learn2cook replied to mrsjo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My last thought before surgery was the two women I have met who had surgery and kept the 200 lbs off 10+ years. All those years at WW and I never met people who lost and maintained a 200lb weight loss the “natural way.” Even the “before” pictures at the gym didn’t compare to the amount I need(ed) to loose and keep off. -
YAY! Mine is the 21st too! I am supposed to start my pre-op diet on the 11th. I too think I am going to start early for 2 reasons. First, the 11th is a Friday, I think it will be harder to get thru the first few days over the weekend. I always think it is harder to stick with my routine on the weekends as far as healthy eating. Being busy and occupied at work helps a lot. Secondly, to loose more weight. I have been on a steady decline since I started all of the pre-op requirements 6 months ago. Once I did my final weigh in, I had some "goodbye" meals. Didn't go over my calories but I didn't eat good (and my body knows). Well, I also gained 4 lbs so I need to make sure I loose that PLUS some. My surgeon requires that you are BELOW your final weigh in the day of surgery. Doesn't matter how much but you have to be less than that final weight check weight. Regardless. Good luck to us. We got this!!!

What everyone else said. Loose skin is a normal result of massive weight loss. You look young, so that might help lessen some of it, but some loose skin is just inevitable. I've been taking supplements from months before surgery and still take them daily, plus getting my water in and always using firming lotion after showering. This won't stop me getting loose skin. I'm hoping it *helps* a little, but I won't fool myself. But as Catwoman says, I will take this loose skin with gratitude over being 130kg.

according to your profile, you're hoping to lose about 150 lbs, so yes, you'll almost certainly have loose skin. Fortunately, most of us are able to hide it pretty well by the way we dress. I'm sure no one noticed mine (well, except my husband...). I originally lost 235 lbs, so I had a ton of it (I've since had it removed since it was driving me nuts, even though no one could see it). Honestly, I think I can speak for most vets who've lost 100+ lbs that we'd take the lose skin any day of the week over being morbidly obese again. ANY DAY!!!

You can’t prevent loose skin. Your skin has been stretched by the weight you’re carrying. Think of your skin like an old, overused, stretched out hair band. Can’t make that elastic. band tight again. But in saying that there are factors that can influence how much lose skin you end up with. Age (younger skin has better elasticity & will bounce back to a degree), how much weight you have to lose (I had hardly any loose skin at goal but with the additional 12kgs I got more than a pinch more), how long you carried your excess weight & genetics. Some loose skin isn’t very noticeable under clothes. Mine’s not & I can wear body con dresses with regular underwear. Others resort to surgery. I don’t mind the lose skin I have. It’s a reminder & I feel I earned it through the effort I put in to lose the weight. Also I’d rather have some lose skin than all those kilograms. But that’s me.

Post menopausal before my RNY. You have good questions! I used to tolerate Trilevelin, but with RNY pills are not advisable due to malabsorption. I have a co-worker friend (with PCOS) that takes the pill so she has no period ever. A different co-worker acquaintance had a complete hysterectomy. Logically, loosing fat will help the symptoms because fat stores hormones. I don’t really know how the implants would work for you, I avoided them because of the weight gain. I use(d) barrier methods, add spermicide/lube as needed.

Another Tummy Tuck Experience Update
Toesinthewater posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had stage 2 (lipo) done today. I'm feeling good. The leftover Percocet from stage 1 is a blessing. Dr. gave ok to use it instead of the typical prescribed Vicodin. I will probably have a small amount of loose skin on the thigh gap and love handle areas but nothing that a tiny nip/tuck won't take care of. I'll post pictures in a couple of months when most of the swelling is gone. As far as the TT recovery (7 wpo), I can now ride my bike; cough/sneeze/laugh without tearing up; but still no heavy lifting. I consider house cleaning heavy lifting (wink, wink) so I guess hubby will have several more weeks of maid duty. I was still wearing a compress garment 23 hours a day even though I don't have to wear it more than 12 hours. Dr. said the longer the better and I don't mind it since it's not summer yet. Now I'm back to wearing it 24/7. Dr. said plan on the scar revision this fall and my scar is healing nicely. -
There is no way to prevent excess skin... Its gonna happen. you can learn to live with it or look into a tummy tuck. Some i seen on here wear spandex to keep it all in but its a side affect of loosing weight.

Okay after a long and hard 3 moth decision I've decided to get the bypass after I read about the side effects of my GERD possibly getting worse even cancerous. Anyways my question is when I'm losing weight how do I prevent myself from getting excess skin?
-
I have acanthosis nigricans which is the very unfortunate side of PCOS, anyways I was just wondering if anyone who had the bypass and has this skin condition how does your skin look now? did you guys have to have some type of laser, or any other treatments afterward so it can fade?
-
Hello everybody, I was just wondering after gastric bypass how much weight did you lose and if your PCOS and acanthosis nigricans improved and if you have GERD/acid reflux how are those symptoms. And what did you do about your excess skin if you had it?

March 2022 Surgery Buddies
FutureSylph replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did, too. Five more days for me. I'm about to jump out of my skin, I'm so excited. Hard to believe that a week from today I'll be home from the hospital. -
This is exactly what I have done in the past, lose weight then gain it back plus more, although I've never gone past my highest weight. One of the reasons I'm keen to get started with a surgery journey is because I've gained back so much in such a short space of time that I'm worried that I'll keep getting bigger at this rate and before I know it I'll be further from healthy than I've ever been. I have now booked in to talk to a doctor next week, which is something I've been delaying in the hopes I can lose the weight without help, plus I hadn't realised that I had slipped beyond a BMI of 30 (although now I know for sure, it is incredibly obvious that I am at an unhealthy size/shape, I even used to have loose skin that is now full again, I do not understand how I've been in this denial so badly, I feel like an absolute idiot!). I just want to be a healthy weight without using disordered techniques!! Suzannethemom - I was concerned that that would be the case. I do suffer from idiopathic intracranial hypertension when I am at an unhealthy weight level, plus my home blood pressure readings have been high recently, I've just not seen the doctor about it as of yet. With the remeasuring of my height (I haven't been measured in about 20 years!) it does put my at a BMI of 36 so I'm hoping that they'll agree I am a suitable candidate. Thank you all! Your help is greatly appreciated.

Changes to my program in the 7 years since I was sleeved
gabbykittyvsg replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The dry skin drives me nuts and I can't put on my usual post shower lotion. Ugh... I bought a small bottle to put in my backpack so I can use it after surgery. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app
