Hi all. I had my sleeve surgery on 8/13. I've had no real complications (minus constipation). I did hit a major stall (17 days) about 10 days post op. Since then I've lost about another 4lbs, making for a total of 23lbs lost in 5 1/2 weeks. I'm stalled again. I did have a surgeon's appointment and before I even brought up the stalls he said he wanted to mention something to me. He asked if I had been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome. I said no and he said that when he saw inside of my body my fat distribution was consistent with those with Metabolic Syndrome and said he has no doubt that I would have been diagnosed soon without surgery. I asked him what that even meant. He said I would probably lose weight more slowly because it was resilient fat that did NOT want to come off, but once it came off the other fat would start "melting off". When I got home I looked up Metabolic Syndrome. I do sometimes have high blood pressure if I eat high sodium foods, but have never had high blood sugar or triglycerides or any other risk factor. Wondering if anyone else has been diagnosed with this and how slow is slow on weight loss? I don't want to make an excuse for slow weight loss or all these stalls and get complacent. Is it possible this surgery will fail because of this? I'm so nervous now and have a million questions I never thought to ask.

Hiccups and sweating
emilygrace replied to skinnygirlwannabe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes to hiccups, also when I have eaten enough! I am 10 months postop and actually I consider I have overeaten once I start hiccuping. I prefer to stop before they arrive. Your sweating is possibly related to vagus nerve stimulation. -
I was banded on 10/17, I'm having pain/tightness in my upper back, shoulders,& neck. I'm also having a lot of burping/more like air pockets that i can feel rising up its can be pretty painful. I did clear liquid for 3 days & have now added protein shakes to it also, all together I only drink about 3-4 cups of liquid a day I have taken mylanta for the gas but maybe I should switch to gas x. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Passed my 1 year point, beyond goal
dallen replied to KartMan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This was a great story and you look wonderful. Mt surgery is scheduled for 6/3/10 and I am scared of failure....stories like yours are inspirational. -
I was sleeved on July 10th and am on a rediculous post-op diet (IMO). I'm on 3 weeks of clear fluids, 3 weeks of full fluids, then 2 weeks of each pureed and the soft foods and then finally can eat regular foods but that isn't for 10 weeks post-op!! I don't get to eat regular foods until September 20th. It sucks but I will follow it because I'm gonna do what I'm told in this process to get the best possible outcome. My question is ... what does your post-op diet look like? Just for curiosity sake and to see all the differences between the different surgeons.

Seriously Think I'm Failing At This..
Wheetsin replied to hrtgoeson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You simply cannot hold yourself to a standard of what other people are doing. It will mean failure almost always, because you will never be the same. I've been sleeved going on 13 weeks. I haven't lost anything (neither pounds nor inches) in about 10 weeks. I haven't seen anyone else that stalled, that soon, with still needing to lose > 100 lbs. But that doesn't mean I can look at everyone else around me who's posting losses on a daily basis and think that I, personally, am somehow failing. It just cannot work that way. Even if you lose nothing else for a bit, you've still lost (post-op) 6 pounds in a month, which is well above an average. (I'm not sure what you mean by you've gone up 1.5 weeks? Given up, maybe? Or gone up 1.5 lbs?) If your weight did not fluctuate, that's when you'd need to be concerned because it would mean your body was not working properly. -
Revision From Band To Rny And Why.
droppingitlikeitshot75 replied to Vicki Loichinger's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had band since 11/08. Fluid in, fluid out, little loss. Had 2 ugi with little dialation 3 years ago. Decided to get it out this year. Saw a different physician due to insurance. Had another ugi. Didn't see anything wrong but lower abdominal erosions due to H. pylori. Scheduled for lap removal of band and revision to rny 10/22. Start preop diet monday. Preop testing 10/17. I was a cash pay also. So I started a seeing my pcp every month for 6 months and joined WW. I knew the insurance would want me to do that. So I was proactive. I got approved on the first try. I don't see why they wouldn't approve you. -
8 Months Out And Have Barely Lost Any Weight. Help!
Ruth613 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on July/7/ 2011, pre-op I lost 10 lbs, then in about 3 months post op another 10 lbs, then after ward I stareted gaining back slowly but surely and now I am back to my pre-op weight. I don't feel a great restriction, although I have some and with some food it is greater than others. I have 5cc in a 10 cc band already which was done very gradual 3-4 fills. Is it possible that I have streched my pouch somehow? I just started exercising. Zumba for about one week and a little more concious of my food intake. since then I have gianed about 2 lb. any suggestions. thanks -
i had my rny sept 19th but i wont lose too much. this was done due to a complication from the sleeve. ive lost 10 lbs and would love to lose 5 more.

Help! For all you lovely people who are familiar with Florida!
Madam Reverie replied to Madam Reverie's topic in The Lounge
I think beaches and relaxation sounds just fine right now!! Having spent 10 years commuting into the centre of London every day, I can go a few years without having to see it again! I think the west coast is where we'll be heading. The man has already vetoed the east coast for many reasons... Largely - they're not on the gulf! Well, his side of the gulf! Do you have any specific opinions on Panama City? Seems like we can get a rental out that way.. and I was wondering how it would compare to the other locations... -x- -
Anybody banded 11/29/2010?
Christina1977 replied to AnneB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was banded on 12/2/2010. I have been feeling good. I had a lot of restriction at first because of the swelling, but not so much now. I go on Jan. 13th for my first fill. I am worried about not having a big change appetite with my first fill. I have lost about 10 pounds post op but it seems to have slowed down. Have you started any exercise yet? -
Anybody banded 11/29/2010?
muelle replied to AnneB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi AnneB, I too was banded on 11/29/10. I was given the go ahead to eat solids 3 weeks post op and though I still had no hunger I ate freely the week of Christmas. I had lost about 25 lbs, but gained back about 7 during that week. Luckily I had my 1st fill of 3 ccs on 12/27/10, though I still didn't notice much change in restriction. I recomitted to myself to get back on track and am doing much better. I still don't have any hunger pains which is awesome! My surgeon keeps stressing, don't eat if you aren't hungry, so I eat very little as I am not hungry....ever. I get head hungry and think I want food, but I know it's not my stomach that is hungry so I stay away from the kitchen at those times. I do eat lean meat every few days to get some protein and I noticed that I now have some restriction when I eat it. It took about a week for me to notice any change from the fill. I start Spring classes Tuesday and am looking forward to keeping my mind more on my studies than on food I also will be getting my 2nd fill on Wednesday, so I am curious to see the difference in restriction. I have not weighed myself again since I recieved my 1st fill and am waiting until I go in again Wednesday to see if I am doing better. It's great to talk to someone who had surgery the same day as I did Feel free to message me with any comments or questions. Good luck to you!!! -
Worried 90 Day past WLS and I eat more!
JamieLogical replied to Lgr3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you continue to eat that way... waiting for some food to digest then eating a little more, you are essentially "grazing", which is one of the ways WLS patients regain weight. You want to try to avoid that. Once you are all healed up, which you should be at 3 months out, you want to try to confine each "meal" or "snack" to about 20 minutes of eating. Then wait 30-40 minutes before drinking. Then don't eat again until your next scheduled meal or snack. At 3 months out, I was eating 5-6 meals/snacks per day. Trying to get about 10-20 grams of protein in each time. I didn't have much room for vegetables, which is why I was diligent about taking all of my vitamins and supplements. -
Post Op/Pre-Fill Eating and Nutrition
MISS.SUSAN replied to goodguy2k's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my doc gave me a list, first 3 days after surgery = liquid diet days 4-7 full liquid days 8-10 = puree days 11-14 minced week 3 soft week 4 bariatric regular not a whole lot to choose from on the list, everything is fat free, sugar free, and you got the Protein first cottage cheese, mashed pototes, pureed meats, pureed veggies, sf yogurts, cream of wheat, oatmeal, then on week 4 you can pretty much eat anything just cut into tiny pieces, some things like raw veggies, tough fruit and hot peppers are to be avoided for like 6 months hope that helps good luck -
I have had diarrhea gas and bloating for over a week now Dr. said I could stop the actigal as diarrhea is a side effect, but no change after 5 days Possible causes seem to be... A bug like e coli or salmonella ... but 10 days? I am eating something I cant tolerate .... not sure what I am eating badly ... not chewing enough? But that would come and go Read news article this week that said the sleeve helps produce a positive change in the gut biome... so maybe this is just a phase? Any advice.... besides immodium and hydration

I turned 45 on 10/8 & was sleeved 10/14. Still adjusting, I'm back at work (went back on 10/24) figuring out what to eat and how much, but I'm loving it! Feel free to ask any questions. Welcome!

3/17/10 had lapband. Never, never, never had a problem with the band that I knew of. The problem I had was my surgeon quit the practice 10 months after I had surgery. Ended up switching to the NP in that WLS clinic. Never once in those three years did they ever fluoroscope that band, only right after surgery. But there again I didn't seem to have any problems, or so I thought. Anyway the nurse was to have called me regarding laps, after waiting six months (I had gotten the laps myself, but she had already po'd me) I switched doctors. He did the fluoroscope and found the band had slipped. I ended up having to have the band out and 10 weeks later had bypass. I did a lot of research during this waiting period, including the complications with the band which is now coming in. The doctor recommended bypass vs sleeve for me because I'm a diabetic and there are better results getting this in remission than with the sleeve. In my research bypass has been so perfected in the past 30 years I had to agree with the doctor. I'm not sorry I had the band as it started my weight loss journey, just wish more research had been done three years ago and I would have eliminated two surgeries. So I would definitely research all the major hospitals, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland, all of them and then determine what would be best for you.

I buy myself a charm/bead for a Pandora bracelet for every 10 pounds I lose. My the time I reach goal, the bracelet will be full. I've also started with massages, manis, etc---but not attached to any particular weight goal. I just realized I deserved the good treatment

I'm trying not to get discouraged but tomorrow will be 2 weeks and I'm only down 10 pounds. I'm getting all my protein and water and have not cheated at all. I walk a mile everyday. Anyone else go through this? Any advice to get the scale moving? Thanks.

Average weight loss 1 month
Delta girl replied to sweetmomma05's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 4weeks out and have lost 20 lbs. I'm 5'3. Day of surgery weighed 200lbs. Now 180lbs. I've heard that lower BMI lose slower. I will be happy with a 8-10 lb weight loss per month. That should hopefully get me to my goal weight in 5 months. -
4.5 year update w/pics and im running the boston marathon!
NY Lou posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its now been 4.5 years since I was sleeved. my high weight was 323 lbs. my goal weight was low 180's. I did reach goal weight but over the years I realized that my desired goal weight was too low for me. now for the last 2 years ive steadily maintained a weight in the mid 190's and that appears to be where im supposed to be and im happy with that weight. today 10/1/17 I weight 195 lbs. I exercise 3-4 times a week and my choice of exercise is running. I will also be running the 2018 boston marathon and im so excited about being able to run this historic race! im running it for the jimmy v foundation for cancer research and ive committed to raising $6000 which is no easy task. if any of you have ever been affected by this terrible illness feel free to click the link after this post and make a 100% tax deductible donation to the jimmy v foundation for cancer research. every dollar donated goes to research. you will be supporting my run and a cause that affects everyone as everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer. as far as my eating, I still have to be very mindful of what I put in my mouth. I can eat much more today than I could 2 years ago but still no where near what I could eat before having the surgery. hope everyone on their journey is doing well and feel free to ask any questions. im also attaching my before pic and a few current pics taken last week. have a great day! heres my donation link for anyone willing to support this wonderful cause: http://jimmyv.convio.net/site/TR/Endurance/General?px=1409952&pg=personal&fr_id=1370 -
WHY DO SO MANY SURGEONS DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY?
EVELYND posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI THERE.. I GOT BANED ON 01/20/11. EVERYTHING HAS GONE REAL WELL, NO MAJOR SIDE AFFECTS. IVE LOST 38 LBS SO FAR. JUST GOT MY FIRST FILL YESTERDAY...MONTH POST OP. I HAVE BEEN READING SOME OF THE DISCUSSIONS AND IM CURIOUS AS TO WHY SO MANY SURGEONS DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY AS FAR AS FILLS GO. I READ THAT SOME DRS WONT FILL FOR 3 MONTHS AND SOME FOR 2 MONTHS. JUST CURIOS AS TO WHY THAT IS. IS IT THE SPECIFIC DRS PROCEDURE? IT WOULD SEEM THAT FOR THE SURGERY ALL DRS SHOULD BE ON THE SAME PAGE.
