  1. I was eating cucumber pretty early out (smeared cream cheese on smoked salmon & wrapped it around a cucumber wedge yum!). Lettuce & other raw vegetables were much later. I preferred to focus on getting cooked vegetables in dishes from soft food & then as a side from solid foods. My tummy was fussy & I could only tolerate steamed green beans, cabbage or cauliflower as a side for a few weeks but most vegetables when cooked in a dish. Hard crunchy raw vegetables like carrot, radishes will take you a lot longer to tolerate because they are almost too scratchy on your throat & too fibrous so harder to digest. Softer high water content vegetables like tomatoes, peeled cucumbers, lettuce will be easier to eat raw but watch the skins on tomatoes. I eat lots of ice berg lettuce but some other greens like rocket, romaine (baby is ok), etc are too coarse & can cause me problems except in tiny amounts even now.

    Kept it Quiet?

I told my hubby and son and my best friend, who I had the pleasure of meeting at infant school from school. They all knew I had struggled for years with loosing and gaining weight. I haven't told anyone else, my parents are dead and my sisters well - one would be jealous and one would try and find a psychiatric reason for my need for it. The rest of the world just doesn't bother me. I have a very pointy middle finger for them.
  3. I know there has been lots of posts about stalls and here is mine. So for the last 8 weeks I have been bouncing around the same weight 71-72 kg today I even went up to 72.5 I am 8 months Post op and have lost 30% of my starting weight. Is this stall or has my body said nope not loosing any more weight? my original goal was 70kg but I still have quiet a bit of fat on my tummy so I would like to get that off and reset my goal to 60kg . I am a shift worker and don't get great sleep and I have found in the past this makes it very hard to loose weight. now I sound like I am making excuses again like I did pre surgery but prior to surgery when I took several weeks leave I always dropped a couple of kilos just from having a better sleep pattern but it went straight back on once I returned to work. but to the topic what do you all think and what are your experiences at this point in your journey?

    Utter regret

I went through exactly the same thing so I know first hand how you are feeling. First of all reach out to someone who can help you with the suicidal thoughts get some counselling asap. Gosh I was that bad I was bawling to my mother that I now wanted a stomach transplant 😳. I felt awful I wanted to die I spent 6 weeks curled up in a ball on my sisters couch. I did the old but I wasn't that big blah blah blah. What you are going through is grief and you will go through all the stages some more than once. When I started loosing weight I would tell people I would gladly have the weight back just to feel normal again. I totally get how you feel. Hormones have a lot to do with this I was perimenopausal and ended up on patches as I said to my Dr I can't deal with both meaning the effects of surgery and menopause, so that helped alot. It gets better trust me on this. I cried multiple times a day for weeks, I didn't go to work thank God I had plenty of leave saved up but going back home and back to work helped me get back into my routine and gave me something else to to think about. On your path to recovery the good days will slowly out number the bad days. I couldn't talk about surgery without crying for months. I would tell people it should be outlawed all sorts of crazy stuff. So now I am 8 months post op and feel so much better. I am 35 kilos down and have come to the realisation that I wouldn't have lost the weight without the surgery, yes I went through a stage of if only a stuck to the pre op changes I made I wouldn't have had to have surgery... But I can't say this enough and you are probably thinking yeah right what do you know it's worse for me but I do know and it will get better just be gentle on yourself try to do things you enjoy spend time with supportive people who will look after you when you need it. You are not alone it gets better, how long will it take you I don't know it took me 6 months and I think when I realised I could eat and drink "normally" again I got better quicker. Now I am fighting another battle but that's a story for another day. Love your restriction while you have it. Get your protein in stay hydrated. If you want to message me privately please do as it helps to talk to someone who has been where you are. It gets better ❤
  5. Thanks for the response Liza. I should rephrase my question. I had RNY surgery last August. I'm now in the process of looking into skin removal surgeons and was wondering in other people's experiences how long it took to get on a schedule with them. I did find a few that I'm interested in consulting with in MD. Just was wondering if anyone had any experiences with any DE surgeons.
  6. humm I don't eat bread very often, and they do advise us to stay away from rice as it will fill you very quickly and has very little nutritional value. Try to eat more protein for example eat your chicken thigh first if you still have room veggies or salad next and rice last. processed foods are very easy to eat and I found don't fill me at all for example the other day I had a hotdog on 2 slices of toasted bread with grilled cheese I was able to eat all of it the pace I could pre surgery and felt I could have eaten more, but I didn't . Pasta is the same with me it doesn't always sit well. Don't listen to the people around you. I had a work mate say to me "oh for god sake will you eat something you are getting to skinny" well I still have a belly and have another 10kg to loose so don't listen. I did notice your BMI is low but you are a small build to going by your height. increase your protein that will help reduce muscle loss and help build it back up. Get in touch with your dietian if you had one if you don't have one look one up that has bariatric experience they should be able to help you with food choices etc . My Appetite was like yours at the start but once I hit 6 months my snacking urges kicked back in and I am currently having a hard time keeping that under check and I have put on a kilo this week and I have also been in a 6 week stall so that's dishearten for me. someone posted a youtube video from a bariatric dr advising against exercise in the first year of surgery but each to his own I guess depending on how much you exercise maybe give it a break until you feel better. Hope you do feel better soon.

    FUPA

I’ll chime in too. Plastics took care of this for me as well. I had a big hanging apron of skin pre plastics. Now it’s gone.
  8. Tomo

    Foamies

Yes, yes. Exactly. Most of my foamies probably could've been avoided. Early on I wasn't used to eating super slow, chewing a LOT. For me, it was a steep learning curve. I also was hell bent on trying to eat fruits with skin on them like cherries or grapes /cry lol.
  9. I did my chin because I was getting some of that old lady dimpling with certain expressions. It’s helped with that, skin is smoother, & reduced the length & depth of my marionette lines. Can still smile, frown, grimace, etc. Can’t do fillers because of my bee allergy. (The neutraliser causes the body to produce the same reaction as for a bee or wasp sting so because my body overreacts to the sting it will likely overreact if they need to use the neutraliser.) Yeah, my face is pretty animated. Have to consciously work at hiding what I’m thinking or feeling. The forehead Botox was freaky to begin.
  10. You have been busy @ms.sss. Never heard of this process at all but it’s great you’re so pleased with the result so far: you can really see a difference. Is it a permanent result like tattooing or do you have to have annual or similar touch ups like micro blading? It’s good to hear about treatments that actually work. So many end up being an expensive waste of money. Micro blading my thin & patchy brows 2 yrs ago was the best thing I ever did @XtinaDoesIt. It’s a bit grit your teeth painful too even with the numbing cream but unsure how it would compare to full tattooing. I also did brow laminating to tame my brows but that was a waste of money. It worked but my brows grow quickly & within a fortnight everything was crazy again & I’d trimmed off a lot of the laminated brows. Dying my brows is the same. By week three I’m using brow mascara to cover the grey hairs. I botoxed my chin before Christmas & was happy. Last month I decided to do my forehead as well. But it hasn’t lasted. It kicked in really quickly, like 3 days, & it was great. Between my brows is going strong but my forehead is much like it was. ☹️ Maybe I need the industrial strength stuff 😂. I’m way more conscious of how I look: general ageing & the loose skin on my face since my surgery. But not game enough to do facial plastic surgery yet either. Though last week when the young girl asked if the children’s pjs I was buying were for my grandchildren may be I should. Boy did she get an earful from me. Everything from gender stereotypes (not every woman has children), ageism, making generalisations, being presumptuous, etc. Also pointed out that I’m not that old that the children couldn’t be mine.
  11. You are right...while i was pregnant, i had fabulous thick flowy hair, nice skin and big boobs! LOL. Once I popped the Kid out, my hair left with her, ...then the boobs followed a few months after. So its actually a good idea to get the breast lift after the kids...kids do a number on them, man. --- No I haven't done eyebrow micro-blading, my eyebrows are still in pretty good shape. But i did do lip blushing, which is very similar...its like a combo of micro blading and tattooing. And that hurts too btw!, but not as bad as the scalp because my tech used a numbing cream. I was supposed to get a lash line tattoo, but i got freaked out watching a pal of mine get it, so now i'm rethinking, lol.
  12. Ooohh this one looks even better! (my attempt was not successful…overcooked and turned out basically like mashed potatoes wrapped hard (and chewy? 🤷🏻‍♀️) skin #oopsies. Will try again another time!)

    PNW Recommendations?

So they are really on par with each other, since second one doesn’t include a breast lift. Btw this doesn’t include implants, I’m not interested in that and the surgeon actually said she recommends against it in cases like mine because they tend to shift, etc. Both recommended the same procedures. Both also said recovery would be a bit rough, but could return to a desk job in 2 weeks. Both also said I don’t have really any more fat to lose. Second surgeon showed me how he measured the arm skin and said it was basically just skin on skin at this point. Feels weird to have doctors saying that I’m done with weight loss, but I have to trust they know what they are saying. I’m still 165 and 23 bmi. So might have a reasonable amount of skin at the end of the day…. At this point leaning toward Dr Streu. She has a lot of experience and could do an additional procedure. I was fine not addressing a breast lift until I knew it was a possibility. She’s booking out until fall so would be a ways off but I’m strongly thinking about booking!

Where are your hives (localized or more general)? I didn't have hives per se but around my incisions I was super itchy... oddly enough the incisions themselves did not itch just the skin about an inch away.
  16. Everyone is different... Everyone. Revision is something later later on for many end up with issues for example severe heart burn that do the sleeve. Just keep working at it... The weight will come off if you stick to the plan. you may loose more than others or less. your surgery was not that long ago so you still have a decent way to go.
  17. Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected). Where the confusing part is how much weight I should expect to loose, my doctor told me I should loose a 100lbs, but my research is stating something in the area of about 60-70lbs, but it’s also stating something about my weight-loss from my previous surgery(btw it was the sleeve). So if I’m to understand correctly I’m only going to loose a total of 100lbs ,including my weight-loss from previous wls? I’m so confused…

    Clothes?

I try to never throw the old clothes away. It is better to give them to someone you know or donate to organizations that need clothes for poor people. Also, you can cut them and make some new clothes or things from them. Or at least you can cut them into pieces and use them around the house as rugs. I did so with some of my old suits from https://www.gentlemansguru.com/. They were too loose for me after I lost weight. I just donated it to a local charity collecting clothes for different needs. For example, suppose nobody of their beneficiaries would take the clothes to wear themselves. In that case, the volunteer will cut them and make dolls or something else from them. I think it is a more proper use for an old piece of clothing rather than just being thrown away.
  19. No bread, pasta rice & still don’t - they doesn’t sit well. Started cooked vegetables from soft foods so week 5. Raw salad vegetables from about the 2 month mark (I rolled cucumber wedges in smoked salmon & a smear of cream cheese.) I could have fruit from around month 2 too - strawberries & watermelons were my go to. I wasn’t told no alcohol just to reduce &/or avoid for a while. I had a gin & tonic at about two months. Took me hours to drink it & didn’t really enjoy it that much thanks to changing tastebuds. I probably had a couple of drinks over the 6 months until goal. I still don’t drink much or often. Maybe once a month or less & often just a glass & take a while to drink it. It doesn’t interest me like it did before surgery. If I drink now I go for quality over quantity. I was told the no bread, pasta etc. was because they are empty calories & they swell & fill your tummy restricting your ability to eat the protein & other nutrients you need. Raw vegetables & fruit skins can be too hard & dry & cause discomfort upon eating to begin. The no alcohol was empty calories & the whole addiction issue (can’t turn to food so turn to alcohol). I saw a video recently where the surgeon said alcoholism or issues with alcohol affect 10% of bariatric patients. 😱.
  20. Omg. In this country people drink alcohol at pretty much every meal and that's it. My program: after the first month, eat what you want but watch out for steak. There are no dietary restrictions at all: eat healthy, high quality foods. Chew well. Don't drink with or 30 minutes after your meal. My experience: I still do badly with hard things that cannot be completely chewed like some fruit skins (blueberry, apple). I haven't tried some things like bread because I either I haven't has the chance or don't believe certain foods are compatible with healthy fat loss. I ate a little pasta and it was fine.

What do you guys think of this video?

Haha loved it, he has some very good points. He is right about you can't loose weight and build muscle, sure you can loose fat and build muscle but your scale probably won't move .

    Clothes?

I have been donating/giving them away. Some of my stuff has gotten “repurposed” (cami that used to be tight and is now super loose? Throw a sports bra under that thing and it’s a workout tank now!)
  24. I had my mgb Nov 2019 and have loved it. I didn't have a single side effect and eat/drink everything I did before the surgery. I went from 240 to 170 in about 4 mos and then eventually made my goal weight of 150. My only issue is loose skin but I deal with it for now. I haven't had reflux since before the procedure and taking a bariatric multivitamin every day has made my lab values perfect. All this without even exercising. I would probably be a size 8 if I hit the gym, but I'm too busy and love my size 12. If anyone is considering it, do it. I had mine in Tijuana after a yr of research. Best $5000 I ever spent!!!

What was your "this is it" moment

I believe you know when its your time to do the surgery. For me it was surgery or I spend 2 years miserable, loosing 70 pounds again, then taking 5 years to slowly fail to keep it off and end up weighing more. I just couldn't do it again. I was so disabled by my weight its almost impossible to loose any. I took the chance and am so pleased I did. I can do so much now. I am getting my independence back, its exhilarating. My future is what ever I want it to be.
